Brunswick A2 Pinsetter Service Stop Saturday. This is why I don't recommend using cheap motors.
Boy, what a day! I found a few interesting things today and thought it might make a decent video.
The biggest takeaway from today's adventure was the hard lesson on motors. This wasn't the first burnt out harbor freight motor that they have had an issue with. I've made one other video on the subject.
I can not recommend this motor as a viable alternative for pinsetter use. I've seen several fail within one to two years of use. Plus, they run extremely hot compared to a properly rated motor purchased through a reputable supplier.

Brunswick GSX Pinsetter - F3 fuse failure on Nexgen CPU board.
Переглядів 273День тому
This is a teachable moment. So much time and effort could have been saved on this issue last night. 3 pin holders and a CPU board had been replaced. The problem went away, but I'm sure it would have returned again eventually. It's so very important to have a meter and to know how to use it! A quick test of the pin holders would have revealed that there wasn't anything wrong with them. In this c...

Brunswick GSX - Setting Table Assembly.
Переглядів 39414 днів тому
I accidentally ended the last video with a clip where I briefly talked about observing the 1, 2, and 3 pinholders "wobbling" when the setting table lowered to detect pins. I didn't have the opportunity to video any of the additional diagnoses or the part swap. However, I did get a chance to video a little bit of the rebuild process.
Brunswick GSX Pinsetter - Failed F6 Fuse on NexGen CPU Board.
Переглядів 42321 день тому
This was an interesting one, for sure. The F6 fuse had gone bad 3 times last night. Take a look at what I found. The pin holder solenoid coil had some damage and exposed coil wires. I went through and tested the other solenoids on that circuit, the shark, and the ball door, had already been replaced last night. I knew they were good, but I feel like it was important to demonstrate how I would a...

It's really disheartening to see how bad some owners will let their facility get. Those machines could be in much much better shape, and the owner would be shocked in how much cheaper they would be to properly maintain instead of repair.

Those solder joints are a mess. Cold and nasty. Good fix on the resolder. I would be tempted to pull that relay out, solder on a set of pigtails and then put say a set of WAGO blocks on the frame to terminate the pigtails to the existing wires.

0:43 NONE of those wires were terminated correctly. Insulation has to be inside the strain relief, and crimped.

Overlooked the broken turret spoon bolt there bud. Right around 19:53 and you will see it. The house I work at I went through ALL 32 of my turrets and the most number of bolts that holding them together was averaging around 3 per lane. I had my work cut out for me but I did get mine done and I made sure all of my hardware was matching so no surprises.

WEG motors are my go-to replacement. Have over a dozen installed at my center. All are 5 plus years old and still running strong. Motor and mounting adapter plate equate to around $400. All I did was give them the info off an old OEM GE motor and they provided me with a mount/motor kit. Buying a new motor through a distributor is idiotic.

M/D followers needs lubricant. You lube those so they can pivot. Dry ones will in time create issues. Pin gates get the NYLON straps, metal ones wear out.. plus that old strap was riding on the RH edge, needs a better gap,i saw it wearing into the side.. If it pivots...you lube it. I use a c-clamp, 9/16 socket, and a bolt. Use the c-clamp to press the bolt into the knurled pin. The socket on the opposite side of the pin will catch the pin as it is being pressed out of the scissor toggle.

Sir, I'm facing an issue with my GSX Brunswick bowling machine where the pinholder 6 solenoid is continuously energizing-turning on, then off, and then on again-causing a pin loading timeout. I've never been electrically inclined, nor will I claim to be, but this is definitely a great teaching moment to better understand the solenoids! I've always been hesitant with popping one of those open. By the way, I'm a larger person, myself, and when I need to service the back row, I always pop the pit curtain out and slide in through the side.

@@Bowler4Ever I would encourage every technician to get familiar with basic meter operation. It will help you to drill down on the issue faster. In this case my team swapped the shark, then the ball door solenoid, then they ran out of time for the evening. They were soo close! In this case they could have used the meter and ruled those two components out very easily. I went through the diag process just to make the video. I already knew those components were good.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have swapped a few of these out over the years. It's pretty rare, though. This one has been holding steady for 65 years. All it needed was that bent plate straightened. Lol! Should be good to go for another 40 years now. The new Guardian-type 2-pole contactors have a higher failure rate. Plus, I had 5 other machines on the out-of-service list for these folks. I didn't want to spend hours rewiring this box if I could make this repair in about 15 minutes. This seemed like a more effective way to go given the situation.
