Swapped out the factory Japanese humbucker for a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates. This guitar is a lot of fun to play, no doubt about it. 1994 Japanese Foto Flame Fender Stratocaster HSS with a Floyd Rose II. I might swap out the FRII with a newer Schaller system, but so far it’s working perfectly and doesn’t have any stripped screws.

    I know this is 6 years old but have you tried Adams Piston Kit for a gas system instead of DI system? I onl-y ask cause the AK uses a piston system and Im gonna build an AR47 and was thinking about the piston system for it. Just runs cleaner.

    Update: Gun works great with brass ammo but cheap steel stuff fails to feed. There is a modification i am doing to my new Duramags to create less drag on the shell casing. I essentially built this rifle. My Gun is Aero Precision enhance upper, Aero quantum rail, M4E1 lower, Aero Breach, Magpul UBR gen2 stock, 762x39 BRA bolt, Faxon Mid length gas barrel, superlative arms adj gas block, duramag 28rds. Trigger: Stock AR15, mild polish, JP reduced spring + BRA heavy hammer spring. 4.5 lb pull. Vortex Prism red dot.

    Awesome build there! Question for ya with your buffer and spring your using any pressure signs also with the gas block are you restricting gas or bleeding it?

    6 years later. How is it holding up?! I had to finally replace bolt at 2700 rounds. I agree with you on the BAD lever. I like my trigger guards to be free and clear for gloves. Enhanced foreling pin.. Some extractors are a real pain. .I mainly built one to have some fun with it and at that time ammo was so ridiculously overpriced.

    • @djhughes017
      @djhughes017 10 місяців тому

      It is still running like a champ. It's on the 4th extractor and has about 8,500 rounds through it. Almost all of that is steel. Over time, I did replace the Aero receivers through with SOLGW and changed the handguard to a Geissele Mk16. Some other things changes over time as well, like replacind the lower parts kit with Forward Controls parts. But, the complete BCG (minus extractor kits obviously), barrel, gas system, and other core parts of the rifle are still the exact same. It still shoots reliably and accurately. I will admit though that I would prefer not to use this as a defensive carbine due to the extractor. That is he weak point, although a properly built and gassed AR47 can see upward of 2,500 rounds on an extractor kit. My bolt still looks great though. Anyway, I haven't shot this much lately, preferring to run a suppressed 12.5" 556 these days.

    So I have a very specific question I don't know if anyone could answer it but when it comes to the nickel boron 762x39 BCG, one of the biggest flaws of this particular rifle and caliber is that they always get a broken extractor. With these nickel boron BCG groups, do they come with any sort of enhanced extractor that is tougher than the others?

    • @djhughes017
      @djhughes017 10 місяців тому

      Yes, Black Rifle Arms uses high quality extractor kits. Even then, you are going to break them every 800 to 2500 rounds depending on how your rifle is gassed. An AGB will help maximize ejector life but may lead to other issues, like carbon locking. I personally don't see that as an issue on this particular platform though, because the gas block is pretty much set it and forget it when running 100% unsuppressed. Otherwise, I don't like AGBs. Most other brands of 7.62x39 BCGs use inferior parts that break early and often.

    I am a super Aero Precision Fan and not for nothing, I didn't know they made a lower for AK mags..... I went with the KS47 set up ua-cam.com/video/aObJTadKbP8/v-deo.html had ai known, I would have went with AP. I have 9+ builds with them. Great video. Thanks for sharing. Just sub'd

    • @djhughes017
      @djhughes017 10 місяців тому

      Aero does not make a lower for AK mags. The lower in the video is a standard AR lower. Regardless, Aero was cool back when this video was made, but I would not buy them today.

    That thing is dead sexy (in fat bastard voice) lol. They say great minds think alike. The only thing different i was planning on doing is going with the Sharps Rifle co. BCG but definitely considered one from BRA. After i saw the uppers from LWRC i knew what i wanted but couldnt afford something that nice so thank God AP came out with the Enhanced uppers for the little guy or in this case the poor guys lol.

      If you are worried about electronics failure in an optic, go with something powered by tritium and/or with an etched reticle. For example, you can run a Trijicon Accupoint or an ACOG. As for lube, SOTARacha. There is a video here on UA-cam.

    • @bronzeguy9839

      No. You can’t marry up an AR15 lower to an AR10 upper. The dimensions are significantly different.

  • @roundthirteen
    @roundthirteen Рік тому

    I put one of these together and if you want to avoid an adjustable gas block you can switch to an H2 buffer. I still think there is a lot to be desired in the way of extractors and bolts. There's just no AR15/M16 bolt out there that hasn't been milled out too much. I'd liked to see an adapted AR10 bolt. I hate saying this but after playing with one of these for a while I wouldn't use it as a GTW/SHTF gun, if you're going the 7.62x39 route stay AK/SKS for reliability (and I'm talking not having to have spare bolts and extractors in the grip).

    • @bronzeguy9839
      @bronzeguy9839 Рік тому

      I agree on not using 7.62x39 AR’s for defensive roles given their spotty record with breaking extractors and bolts. Either use an AK or invest in a 300 BLK platform. But these particular rifles should only be used for plinking and hunting.

    • @djhughes017
      @djhughes017 10 місяців тому

      In this caliber, unlike a 556, you really need to lower gas pressure to lessen bolt and extractor strain. A heavier buffer will slow it down, but gas is your problem. I agree with you that for 99% of applications, an adjustable gas block is less than ideal and I don't even run one in my 3G setup anymore.

      This video is pretty old now. I am still running the original barrel and BCG from this video. At present, I am at about 7,500 rounds total. All but a couple of boxes of brass have been Tula, Wolf, and RAS steel-cased. In that time, I have broken 2 extractors and am on the third. After breaking the first, I spoke with BRA and they strongly recommended an adjustable gas block to mitigate extractor and bolt wear. I do not believe an adjustable gas block has a place on a standard AR outside of competitive shooting, but it's a must for 7.62x39. With the ABG, I have about 3,200 rounds on the current extractor (BRA extractor).

    • @djhughes017
      @djhughes017 3 роки тому

      Yes, it’s an Aero Precision upper receiver with standard M4 feed ramps. I do not recommend polishing them. Quality parts should not need that sort of modification to run reliably. Most builders with feeding issues can trace them to magazines and don’t need to modify feed ramps anyway. The newer generation magazines from C Products are hands down the best.
