THE NORTHOVER RIDGE: Epic 3-Day SOLO Adventure in Harsh Weather | Kananaskis, Alberta
This trip almost didn’t happen due to uncooperative weather, but I spotted a brief window of clear skies between the rain and snow that allowed me to tackle the Northover Ridge-an epic journey I’ve always dreamed of doing. Despite the mix of rain, wind, and snow, the trail exceeded my expectations. The buzz surrounding Northover Ridge is well-deserved, with its stunning sub-alpine and alpine views stretching as far as the eye can see!
Sadly, I had to leave my dog Ginny at home since the trail isn't suitable for dogs, making this a truly solo adventure. The challenging autumn weather kept most hikers away, so I essentially had the entire trail to myself.

4-day SOLO Thru-Hike on the SAWBACK TRAIL. Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada.
Переглядів 1,4 тис.2 місяці тому
I hiked the Sawback Trail with Ginny from Mount Norquay (Banff) to Lake Louise over 4 days. It's not as crowded as other area's of Banff, so it really allowed me to immerse myself in nature and the surrounding beauty. The first 2 days gave intermittent rain, and the last two days were sunshine were white puffy clouds! The rain and clouds at Mystic Pass made it that much more mystical. Going ove...
3-day SOLO Random Camping Trip in ELK LAKE PROVINCIAL PARK, British Columbia.
Переглядів 2,3 тис.2 місяці тому
3-day trip camping in a random spot near the derelict (abandon) Petain Creek campground. Ginny and I did side trips to Petain basin and waterfall, and an attempt at getting up to Coral pass. The weather was HOT which made it challenging (especially for Ginny), but luckily there was water nearby at all times. The skies were clear making it perfect for night time-lapse photography.
Bowmont Ravine Mountain Bike Ride. Calgary, Alberta. Sept 2023.

I have always loved mountain biking in the Bowmont. From the harrowing cliffs of "Sideshow Bob" to the cool forrest paths, it's always a good ride. We are so lucky to have such great mountain bike trails right in the middle of the city!
SKOKI LOOP, 3-day Solo Backpacking Trip. Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada.

What's not to love about the Skoki region in Banff? So many awesome things to say about this trip: the lush forests, colourful lakes, rocky passes, and the dark night skies. The goal of this trip was nothing more than to enjoy this mystical region. By using Bakers Lake as a base camp, I was able to take my time doing the loop in one day with a light pack. It gave me a chance to slow down and ta...
TURBINE CANYON LOOP. 3-day SOLO Trip Over the Great Divide. Kananaskis, Canadian Rockies.
Переглядів 451Рік тому
Join me on this epic 3-day solo backpacking adventure doing the Turbine Canyon loop over the Great Divide (between Alberta and BC). I chose to go counter-clockwise via Turbine Canyon, Lake Beatty, and Three Isle Lake. The trip had its share of challenges: from sweltering smokey heat to drenching thunderstorms! Nevertheless an amazing experience. The diverse landscape and views seemed to change ...
3-day SOLO Backpacking Trip to Ribbon Lake, Kananaskis, Canadian Rockies.... GRIZZLY bear encounter.

Ribbon Lake is one of my favourite spots in the Kananaskis backcountry. This 3 day trip had a bit of everything: lush old-growth forests, panoramic views, hot sun, and rain. I even had a GRIZZLY bear encounter. Hope you enjoy the video!

This is a video with a selection of my favourite Timelapse's of the stars from my trips in 2022. Going to the backcountry is certainly the best way to get the dark skies! I hope you enjoy. AR

🧡Ginny , are there any good fishing spots on your travels ?

Oh yes. Almost all the lakes have fish. Some more than others. I've never really been into fishing, but maybe I should give it a try!

Yes, I love all the strange mushrooms. A lot of variety within the fungi kingdom! No other person, I film it all myself. Tricks of the trade ;)

Been a few years since I was last up to the basin. It’s a magical place. Are the bear lockers still at Petain Creek?

    • @AlexRezansoff
      @AlexRezansoff 3 дні тому

Hi Kelly. Yes, the basin is amazing! Definitely will want to go back again. The only "locker" I found at the camp was the one attached to the outhouse. I didn't see any dedicated bear lockers, but I didn't really go searching around the old camp as the water was pretty high.

Great Video. One of THE best 3 day trips close to YYC with epic views. Since you've got that beautiful UL tent, have you thought about upgrading your pack?

@@AlexRezansoffI do not. I have a couple HMG (Hyperlite mountain Gear) packs. A Unbound 55, Southwest 2400 (40L) and a Waypoint 35. All packs are made of DCF same material as your tent.

@@AlexRezansoff For sure, I think this is just one hike I need to maybe build up to. I need a bit more experience just getting to know my gear and getting more confident with overnight, back country camping before I tackle this. I’ll probably do one or two more weekend over nights this year and aim to do a 2-3 night trip like this in the spring when I’m a little more confident and comfortable with the gear and with my own abilities.
