This channel is all about Guitar, Guitar Gear and Music, my focus recently is on talking about gear, doing reviews and making videos about what I'm up to with my guitar gear but in the past I've also focussed on making covers of some of my favourite songs.
The TRUTH about my Music Man MARIPOSA after ONE YEAR!
I've had my Ernie Ball Music Man Mariposa for a full year now and it's been a bit of a journey. In this video I'll tell you exactly what I think of this guitar having owned it for a year.

PICKUP SWAP JAM - Looper jam on my Mariposa post pickup swap!
Переглядів 58Місяць тому
Left over footage from my Mariposa pickup swap video, this little looper jam was meant to go in that video but it was already way too long at 50 mins, so here it is as a little standalone vid. I had changed the pickups in the Mariposa and I wanted to do a kind of 'in the mix' section, but realistically that's not what this is as it's just one other guitar part in the loop. I didn't hate my play...

yessss - amazing tones - and informative video - thanks for posting this - now I think I need one of these
Thank you! It’s a great amp!
I was just playing my JC Epiphone. It’s a pity you didn’t try the original pups. I really like mine.
It’s not so much that I didn’t like them, more that I got a good deal on the Seymour Duncan’s so went ahead. Either way it’s a great guitar!
I dont know guys. I’ve come to learn that the high-end products of a “lesser” quality company are often much better quality and value-for-the-money than the lower tier of the higher quality company. Meaning, I am inclined to take a high-end expensive Epi over the least expensive, lower tier Gibson. Sometimes we just pay for the brand and overlook the actual value of the product. Just my opinion.
I think Epiphones have come a long way but the QC can be just as bad as Gibsons.
It compliments amp gain. I cant stand pedal gain on a clean amp. Real amp gain and pedal gain are so different. The plumes gets closer to that real amp gain sound than any tubescreamer or od3 though
pretty good pedal for this price
Certainly is value for money if you dig the tone!
BKP Polymaths would look stunning on this guitar. And here’s a plus, a couple of weeks ago they released the Poly-Pafs since you mentioned PAF PUs. Anyways, I’m very happy you have that guitar. A couple years ago I stumbled upon the Sterling Mariposa and I was sooo in love thought it’d be a nice guitar to have in contrast for the heavy style of playing I do. 😅
Trouble with BK pickups is the price though tbh, they end up being around £400 when you add covers and everything. I actually had the sterling Mariposa before this, loved it so much I upgraded 😁.
I appreciate you making this content. I also own both…. But mine are the opposite of yours as my Adam jones is quite a bit better than the Jerry cantrell
I had one but couldn't get it to sound good in any way with the Boss Katana I had back then.. It was muddy and had no definition at all! Maybe it only fit Tube amps?
Hi Jason, How does the Dane compare with the Lovepedal Amp Eleven, if you've tried that?
I’ve not tried that one unfortunately
Okay. It's nice. Especially love the boost. Which is a COT50 I believe.
Music man just need to bring this out as the Jason signature. Some banging tones on display 👌
I’m not sure I have quite the same draw as Omar 😂.
@JasonWharton82 I mean, I've heard of you. Omar on the other hand... 🤣🤣🤣
Just bought one, didn't realize how many things this pedal can do.
Yeah it’s got a few secrets under the hood!
Going to that shop next time I’m back home!
It’s a great little shop, been going there since the mid 90s!
I had this pedal and it is great overdrive. It is definetelly TS style OD, but more transparent and bassy as TS, but has less grit than SD-1 which is actually TS on steroids. I used that in front of blues-driver as a replacement of TS with more tone capabilities.
I connect the normal channel and the vibrato channels togehter. Input 2 from the normal into input 1 in the vibrato channel. I plug my guitar into input 1 on the normal channel. The volume has to be the same level on both channels so you don't get "out of phase"-problems. In this way I can adjust how I want the reverb to sound, brighter or darker depending om how I adjust the bass and treble knobs on the channels. If you never tried this, I recommend you to have a go at it:)
Seems like snake oil to me, doesn’t really do much does it!!
Using it on an already reasonably dark rosewood fretboard probably wasn’t the best way to show it off. It admittedly is a subtle result and tends to work a little better on Indian laurel or pau ferro. It’s also good for conditioning the board. It’s also very good for darkening new wood, like if you take the finish off the back of a maple neck and want to make it look a little more played in. I’ve no skin in the game though, I bought it myself and use it mainly for the later reason.
It’s awesome man!!!
Nice. Sounds like the EQD Zoar od pedal I found. Gets good and dirty.
Yeah lots of gain on tap!
another big muff? wonder if the pumpkin has anything to do with smashing pumpkins ?
Not that I know of, it’s more just a Halloween release. Thorpy says this is based on the triangle big muff but Billy Corgan was known for using the op amp big muff. I suppose it does play into that idea nicely though.
Sounds great!!!
Yeah it’s a really great pedal!
Sounds great, man! I roll amp distortion these days, would throw one of these in a chain for sure though 🤟
Thank you! It would sound mega into a driven amp for sure!
Brooo, is that the Mariposa from Omar signature Music Man guitar? Daaaamn its tight!
Shoulda mentioned that in my comment too, very nice! 🤟
It is indeed, I’ve got quite a few videos on it on the channel, awesome guitar.
Great work Jason 👍 Thorpy knows how to make a pedal huh?
He sure does! Thanks Budge!
Thorpy, send this man a check! This review just convinced me to pull the trigger on purchasing one. Great review as always, Jason.
Thank you my man, thanks for the continued support!
Really nice demo! How would you compare this one vs the new vintera II 50s strat?
Thank you! I’ve not tried the new range so can’t comment other than on specs, very pleased they brought rosewood back to the range!
If it’s good enough for Paul Gilbert it’s good enough for me.
Can’t argue with that!
Here is my Zoom 505 fuzz setting, used mostly for Smashing Pumpkins: oF Nt 26 6 45 Pd r1 20
Beautiful playing, Jason. Yours is a channel that draws me in for its content as well as the the music. When I hear someone play as effortlessly as you I think man, I can do that too. And then I pick up my guitar 😬 Whatever, you are a great inspiratio to improve. And coming from American Folk and Indie I love Jason Isbell so this guitar is also interesting in its own right. Thanks again. Zs
Thanks again my good man!
What a great video, Jason. I already liked the intro part where you told us about your looper journey, it was concise and still very informative. At that point I was still a little afraid you would start shredding away some heavily overdriven and distorted stuff but no, what you are playing here is something I would really like to learn myself coming from fingerstyle playing. I can see you have long reached 1000 subscribers but I subbed nonetheless. Thanks brother. Zs
Thank you for the kind words and the sub! I never quite got to shred level with my playing 😂.
It sounds great! Nice playing. Subtle. I like it.
Thanks!
Hi, nice video but just letting you know that to get the most out of this pedal you need to run it into an actual tube amp - ideally one on the edge of breakup. Like a Tubescreamer, it won't sound very good pushing an amp-sim (whether software or pedal based) or DI interface.
You and everyone else in the comments 😉. I’ve tried the plumes into a tube amp in the past, it’s just not for me but I do understand that other people like what it does and that’s cool, variety is the spice of life!
@@JasonWharton82 For sure, I only mentioned it because I use software amp sims mostly these days and sadly can't get the most out of all the drive pedals I collected over the years with them.
Sounds super great!
The great Paul Gilbert's go to pedal...They even made a signature series for him.....Sounded pretty good to me.
They performed really well with a good amp or headphones. I think people want it to sound a lot worse than it does because it's still usable lol. I think if you wanted to shred metal and hard rock solos, if your amp had enough lead gain they performed surprisingly well. Well enough for Megadeth, Pantera, Metallica and all the grunge bands.
The presets are pretty wild though 😁.
Thanks a lot for your demo and your smart comments. I think to buy one for the clear sound quality and for the light weight 😁. It seems to sound better clean vs high gain where I find it a little fizzy... but it can be corrected with eq !
It’s a great amp, I’d just avoid the cab sim output.
Sounds great what was your signal chain? If you said it in the video, I missed it.
Honestly I’m not sure as the vid is getting on for a year old and I’ve changed my set up so many times it’s ridiculous but I think I was using a boss GT 1000 core for the amp tones on their fender style amp.
Is that the Cloudburst? Sounds dreamy
I don’t think the cloudburst was released when I made this video, this is one of my early ones so my memory might not be spot on but I think what you are hearing is the electro harmonix Mel 9.
Do you need that much kitchen roll/paper towel for each step? My goodness that is a tremendous waste.
You actually need more than I showed, what you didn’t see in the video is the industrial size role I had just off screen I went through several of them before I even opened the wax.
I think it's an improvement. An Eastman would be even better hahaahahah
Of course you’d say that! 😂 those Eastman’s of yours do sound really great though.
HOW DOES THIS MAN RECORD A 50 MINUTE VIDEO
It takes a long time to re-wire a guitar!
In my humble opinion, nothing beats a Jazzmaster!
A strat will always be my preference but I do need to pick up another JM at some point!
awesome. I was thinking to myself 'now all I need is a drive pedal' as I bought the coolest delay pedal. Turns out i'm done! haha (for now)
I’d still recommend going for a standalone drive pedal as it’s more of a tape saturation sound than a classic drive but it’s still cool to play with!
Actually, an effects loop would have been amazing! Dear sweet baby Jesus! It wouldn't have hurt the tone. Lol
I didn’t find it needed it but I was using it completely clean, if you were driving it then perhaps an effects loop would have been good.
@@JasonWharton82 actually, it would help with looping. You could get multiple guitars looping
@christophervincent8420 I agree and wonder if there's a way to achieve this since there's essentially 2 separate channels and also DI out. 🤔
@@CarlitoM77 since it's all digital, I don't think it would really effect it
Hi there The Gretsch electromatic looks great to be honest with you I have a white Falcon don't get me wrong the white falcon is a great guitar but to pay an extra $4.500 on top of the $1500 here in Australia for the electromatic to me it's just not worth it Thumbs up for the electromatic and the streamliners 👍🇭🇲👍🇭🇲👍
I’d love a falcon one day, actually I think I’d go for a penguin but a high end gretsch either way. Thanks for watching!
The tone comparisons aren't a fair test, the one had a cat on the amp which as we know affects the tone 😂
My secret tone weapon, the tone cat!🐈
I have a black one with the original case and fixings. I absolutely love this guitar, it makes any other electric I play feel dull by comparison. The hard tail adds beautiful sustain but my fact is the neck…. It is so well crafted I can’t believe it. I’m surprised he changed them out on his as I never would. It is my go to guitar, it sounds beautiful plugged in or just playing without an amp. The weight and and thickness of the neck along with the rounded off edges make it a substantial guitar and amazing player…. It’s USA also, what’s not to love? lol
It’s a great guitar, hope to actually own one someday!
Thanks, Jason! It arrived yesterday and cant wait to dig in. But I must say, getting to know and understand it, seems a bit intimidating, so vids like this is super. :)
I’d focus on the panel controls and default settings first, get used to how all that works and then dig into the manual to unlock additional features.
NICE🎶 dude i was totally drifting off🤣 Sooooo Goooood!🏆
Thank you!
Hey man, why is your Dookie so thick?
Nice playing! Stunning guitar and it's on my short list!
Thank you! Yeah it’s really cool, particularly like the pickups which you can now buy as a standalone set!
