A Place to Relax Between Rides
SpokesmanMTB is a collection of rides, reviews, musings, and memories that I have compiled over the years to document my love of mountain biking and its culture. I rode my first bike in 1976, and my butt never left the saddle. From joy rides during my childhood to teenage escapism to transportation to awesome downhill madness, I grew up with the sport and I feel lucky to be able to share it with the world. I hope you enjoy your stay.

Riding the Rapid City
Three road trips, three vehicles. I finally replaced the 4Runner that was destroyed in the Bentonville tornado, and I love the new 2024 TRD Pro. I got it all packed and ready to go on the big event this year; spending more than four weeks on the road riding the bike all around the USA.
After a quick last minute wheel replacement, I hit the road and drove Dennis, stopped in Breckenridge for the night, and headed up to Lander, Wyoming to drop him off at the NOLS headquarters for a three week backpacking trip. He’s sure to have an amazing experience!
I rode a quick loop in Lander on the local Bus Loop trails. It’s all I had time for. The slickrock was fun and quick, but I left the camera back in the hotel room, so I let this ride live on in my memories and not on the internet.
The next stop was in Spearfish, South Dakota. Well, I spent the night in the beautiful town of Spearfish, but I rode in Rapid City at the Hansen Larsen trails. This park is located in town and is easily accessed by the locals. It was a convenient stop on the trip and it allowed me to enjoy some of the fun and rocky terrain that the South Dakota trails have to offer.

After leaving St. George, Johnny and I enjoyed Las Vegas and Dead & Company at the Sphere. That place is pretty crazy! The show was fantastic and it’s always great to hang with my best concert buddy! We drove to San Jose along Highways 395 and 120 through Mammoth and Yosemite National Park. I had about one day to get settled before I jumped on a plane with my Wife, my Son, and three of his frie...

The second event in my 2024 road trip journey started on a sad note. After the Bentonville tornado I had to bid farewell to my much-loved 4Runner. That’s right, the insurance company totaled her and I had to watch as they carted her away on a flatbed. She was less than three years old - we were just getting to know each other! My 4Runner’s understudy was called into the spotlight to serve as tr...

Riding at the Bentonville Bike Festival 2024! The drive from Memphis Tennessee into Arkansas took me across the Mississippi River and into a storm front. The original plan was to stop and kill a few days in Dardanelle or Russellville and ride Mount Nebo - I was told it was riding incredibly well and that it was a whole lot of fun. The weather had other plans. I found myself hunkering down in my...

While on the road trip I made a stop in the French Quarter for a weekend to attend a friend’s bachelor party. Between the great food, awesome music, and constant celebration, I probably destroyed any fitness I had built up to this point in the trip. But it was worth it. I spent one morning riding the streets of the Quarter and the riverfront in town. After loading up the truck, I headed north t...

I left Carlsbad, New Mexico after enjoying a great ride at the La Cueva trails. The next leg of my road trip involved driving across Texas almost all the way to Austin, Texas. Many of you who tune in regularly know that I wasn’t able to take my big road trip last year because I got laid off just two weeks before I was supposed to leave. Oh well, I still got plenty of rides in through the end of the year. With some creative planning and a VERY understanding family, I was able to put together a three-part road trip extravaganza that will take almost three months. Tune ...

Spring is here and I decided to jump on a plane to spend a weekend with my Sedona pals! We all met up in San Diego for a SD Padre’s game and I got to pick up a ball cap with my initials on it! Super cool! The day after the game, Joey and I drove out to Vail Lake. This is a trail system located about a half hour east of Temecula, California. well the was..... something lol. Way to hang in there and try to make the best of it!
All those pine needles and foliage, looks like a trail system here in Miami. Hey, at least you rode.
Nice video. I like your humor. Yes. Hawaiian trails can be very different, rough, rooty to da max, icy SLICK, and confusing as heck. I lived there in the mid to late 90’s and there were trails everywhere. Now, due to overcrowding (I guess), it seems they’ve corralled the Mtb riders into 2 main areas: where you rode (what we used to call Kahuku MX Park, and then over on the opposite end of the island, above Waimanalo. Both areas are spaghetti networks of trails. And yes, you drink a lot of water out there, about 2x normal. Thanks for sharing brah! Aloha😎🤙
Not sure why you would take a bike on that hike...
@@TheActiveLife20 yeah. I asked myself that a few times.
Win some lose some, but it’s all an adventure!
@@beyond-x that it was! A definite adventure!!!
your video just popped up on my feed... wild summer! looking forward to working with you on the durango trails again
@@pmeschultz I'll be home in a few weeks, I can't wait to help out again!
How long is your road trip timewise?
This leg of it is a bit more than four weeks.
@@SpokesmanMTB That's awesome! How difficult would this ride be on a regular mountain bike? That exposure would mess with me!
@@walkerswild the exposure is the best part! It would be a bit of a trek on a regular mountain bike, but totally rideable. Very technical. And very hot this time of year! Plenty of water, and leave early. Very early.
Oh man I want to go back!! I should probably get new shocks first for the road up 😂 🪇🪇🪇
This is one of my bucket list rides. Great video!
@@mikehardin9650 it's unique and super fun! Definitely definitely worth the trip!
Love reliving this!!!!!

Dang dude! Hope you are ok.
@@AdventureAwaits4u fortunately equipment was the only thing damaged. It wasn't a cheap fix, but no bodily injury, so I'm calling it a win. Ha ha.
Hey Steve, awesome ride over at Coler bud. I got a lot of videos to catch up on, but I’m looking forward to your watching your castle / SP ride experience. Did you by any chance ride at Handcut Hollow on your visit? Take care 🙌🏼
I did not make it out there. May be back in a month or do, worth the visit to that area?

everything's big in texas.. except the mountains. that's a HILL.
@@mikestivers8302 hahahaha true! But it's a pretty good hill!
Mt. Zion was the first trail i rode with features! back in 2017
@@TrailFReEK it really is an impressive trail! Whoever built it did a great job, and it looks like they're taking pretty good care of the place.
I'm from Carlsbad, glad you enjoyed it.
Humidity...story of my life. HA! Was ayone else there? Seemed like it was your own personal trail system. Trippy ending!
I pretty much had the place to myself! There was one guy leaving right as I was showing up, and I bet he was just as miserable as me. Of course, at a time when I have an entire trail system to myself, that's when I crash! I went over the bars about 2/3 of the way through this ride, but I'm OK. Just my inherent stupidity manifesting itself again.
This looks like a fun lil system!
Worth the trip!!
Sorry, we took that sign down a couple years ago, all filled up here. Jk great series!
I've been a MS resident and mountain biker for 25 years and I've never made it down to Zion. That needs to change! Thanks for visiting the 'Sip. If you've got time, check out the Area 51 Trails on your way to Memphis.
I'm long gone (that was in May, 2024) but I may be back. If I have the option, I'll definitely check i t out! Thanks!
Love it! Really felt like I was there with those lens effects! 😂😅
It was SO HOT AND HUMID!!! It was an unhealthy decision to ride that day, and I learned a lot about my limits (I ended up going OTB towards the end of the ride and bruised a rib!) But the first half of this ride was super fun!!!
Exactly! Were you using an insta360? pov was amazing!
@@MTBQandA GoPro Hero 11 Black. I have been unimpressed with my Insta.

Good to know if I ever find myself suckered into TX! Thanks for sharing!

Great high quality video! That trail looks nuts. I would probably need my ebike. 😂 Side note, I rode with uphillwill from Kentucky on Saturday. It was nice hearing how you guys met at Sedona. Small world.

Thanks for the tour. Was down there two weekends prior to Bike Fest. So sad to see places you recognize under a pile of ginormous trees. Thankful more casualties weren't involved and the community has really pulled together. Condolences on your ORP.
It was a rough night for sure! I enjoyed Bentonville, but now I have a special place in my heart for that town because of the way that everyone responded after such a tragedy. Good people. I hope you enjoy your next trip out there.
I’m so sorry about your 4Runner man! In looking at the footage my dance moves didn’t help your experience.
But they helped my spirit! Thanks so much for all of your wonderful hospitality in an amazing town! I will be back, I promise! Looking for a new truck…
My wife and I were camping at Coler in a rooftop tent. We took shelter in the Airship when the horns went off. Hunkered down in the restroom when the worst of it came through. We were trapped there for a couple of hours due to flash flooding and so many trees down. Eventually we made our way back to camp climbing through downed trees and wading through shin-high water. Luckily, we suffered no damage to our vehicle or gear. Total devastation in the park. We bugged out, back to NH, later that morning. Glad you’re ok.
Oh damn!!!! I can't imagine only having the Airship to use as shelter! (The airship int he park, right?) I'm so glad you made it out! I bet Coler was a mess after the storm!
Sick video!

so fricken wild man. glad you're alright. nice meeting you the day before!
Sorry! Haha I need longer shirts I guess? Haha
Great video. I will say I like hearing your commentary more than the music. Might try less music, I think your audience will like it. 👍🏼
This is good info, thanks! I hear from viewers so little, it's good to know what works and what does not.
I gotta get back out there it’s been too long
So much fun!!!
Oh that was your vehicle. Jonnie from MTB Q&A messaged me that
Yeah Johnny saved my butt. He picked me up and took me to the rental car shop.
I was there at a rental on NW A street not far From Slaughter Pen. I actually woke up and watched the storm until it was over. Power went out until Tuesday night. Was kind of like camping :). The sky was lit up like a big city with constant light from lighting. The wind was insane. Next day looked worse then any of our Houston area hurricanes.
I had just left Houston the day before the tornado hit. Then I was in a small town in Mississippi a few days later when a hurricane hit, and then I was in Bentonville for this one. I have a lot of bad juju! It was pretty scary. Definitely. I've been through some pretty harsh storms, but this one really takes the cake. The most impressive part, in my opinion, was the way that the town came together at the end. It's a pretty cool community.
