This role was made for Shohreh Aghdashloo, I can't imagine anyone else playing it as well as she does. Every movement and the tone of her voice is absolutely perfect.
I love the authors' historical irony in that the books/show have a powerful Indian character (I know Shoreh is Iranian, but Crisjen is Indian in the show and books) be so passionate aboute how government (admittedly only at its best) can f*ck up overreaching and immoral businesses! As a historian of the EIC this element of the series has always been one of my favourite parts!
There was Anderson Dawes, Jules-Pierre Mao, Errinwright, Peaches, Murtry. And then, in last season all we had left was that c.nt inaros. Villains quality decline in Expanse was staggering.
I love how she doesn't even bother to shoot down Errinwright's pathetic attempt to strawman her argument "So you really believe he was trying to destroy the Earth, is that right?", just smoothly points out that it was probably an accident brought about by his hubris. I really love how when she first says she's going to rain hellfire down, he looks sort of surprised in an amused "oh, this is new, you're really going for bluster?" sort of way, turning into genuine fear as he realises it's NOT bluster. Unlike him and so many other rich and powerful people, she turned down an opportunity to flee Earth and get somewhere (temporarily) safe, she decided to live or die with her citizens, she said her goodbyes to her beloved husband, and she is fucking PISSED enough that she is absolutely willing to destroy her own career to punish Mao.
I do too. Unfortunately, she didn't know Errinwright was working with Mao until much later on in the books. Scenes like these are one of the perks of bringing in Avasarala a book early.
@@andrewxu3602 yeah. But it’s hit or miss when they make up new stuff. Like all of last season, that was NOT the Avasarala I know and love. I was sooo disappointed with how they wrote her into this past season. Garbage.
@@gregglesmigregglesmi3633 I haven't gotten to that part of the books yet, but if I had to guess, the reason they wrote Avasarala that way in Season 5 was to show that the death of her husband had softened her up a bit. Thus, she's no longer the hardass that we all remember her being.
@@andrewxu3602 on the contrary. She doesn’t really appear in that book. So they wrote an entire storyline for her on earth. And I hate it. Thy actually make her much more ruthless and morally corrupt in the tv show story.

I love how you can see that under the ultimatum, she's genuinelu getting emotional, that the mask is slipping ever so slightly. What a fantastic performance.
I can tell from her character that even that slip of the mask was calculated for his benefit so that its no secret if they want to deal him and his buddy Mao will be doing things her way and there is no compromising.
I don't think it was a slip. I think it was very intentional. She knows exactly what she is saying and allowing the rage to come to the surface for the purpose of instilling fear.
@@thegrimmretails3777 her title is deputy undersec he is the undersec. That's the reasoning. But as errinwright himself says in season 1, she's basically accountable to no one.
The way i understand it is the deputy undersecetary is the highest rank of non-partisan public servant meaning she's not elected. I believe that Errinwright and his boss are elected and are without the powers that Avasarala has as highest ranking public servant.
I don't know about the use of the idiomatic expression here. *_"Goes ballistic on"_* implies erratic, chaotic, irrational, and psychotic. It implies uncontained and unrestrained. she sucks and ruins the show for me. could they not find anyone with a normal human like voice? when there is such an ocean of supply of any kind you like actors actresses I just cannot understand why they decided to cast this woman... @ casting whoever hired her is responsible
Well, her voice is indeed irritating, but nothing wrong with her acting skills, I suppose. Though I don't like this scene in perticular. She wouldn't scare me if i was there, but then again, it may have to do with her voice.
Avasarala is quite the dynamo, isn't she?
Yes, Admiral...Damn, this voice actress has all the gravitas.

A snake and a rat have a dance in this scene.
What speech ! She’s incredible !
The most complex leader I have ever seen grace the screen. 2:30 she's not afraid to be straight up evil if it means getting justice
Sadavir is a really good name - it means always brave in Sanskrit.
If only West had leaders like Avasarala today...
Souther was right. When she was sitting there watching Errinwright she really did look like a cobra in a sari.
God I love her.
I love that she still politely shuts the door instead of slamming it.
I do so wish this speech was in the books.
