yeah, in hindsight, you are very right. the combination of drawing behind enemy lines and my push to kill his infantry, i didn't want that reanimator causing problems on regenerating guys if i flubbed so i thought I could push through the center and cause enough damage to force him to move to intercept me. I underestimated the damage he could put on me with those mortals from the plasmancers on my reaper t1 so i was lucky to have it alive on t2. I figured i needed to push for damage and it didn't pan out the way I wanted. sometimes you make the wrong call, but all you can do is battle on! Since we play the teams format so much, even in a loss, every point matters so fighting on can mean the difference between a loss and a victory for your team in the end. By all rights, game should have been over on walter's turn2. But luckily it wasn't, or we wouldn't have had all the fun scrapping it out in the end! The list itself has all the tools to do work in that game, so lessons were learned for the next time!

Walter did go on to win a 5rd in 1day iron man GT singles event so singles went fine. I think the issue is while assassinate is an easy pick, what is your second pick? Walters list is aggressively trying to table you so unless you are aggressively destructive, you might not be alive to keep scoring points

You'll be fine. If they take assassinate as fixed they'll get high secondaries, but it's not like people ever get low secondaries in pariah nexus. Just fight onwards, you'll both get fine secondaries, goal is to win on primary.

I think the double/lychguard is better. It's easier on the real estate, with just 2 mounted units you need to accomodate, plus you get MWBD once a round and a res orb from the Overlord. Minimal difference, but, narrowly, I think the Lychguard/Overlord beats out the third Lokhust lord for that slot.

Looked fun, but disjointed. The Ultramarines list was definitely coming for competitive blood. Love to see a sea of muscle Bullgryn

Yeah, Anthony hasn't played a lot of games of 10th so wasn't showing up with some tuned guard list. He knows what he's in when playing me but he still had a good time as learned some of the nuances and changes. Afterwards we talked in length about some tweaks or options he has at his disposal for next time!

We have some competitive guard players in our area. If you are interested in seeing some of that, I'll get those games on the books!

Lord Solar gives you the ability to re-deploy three units before first turn, which stacks with smoke and mirrors

We've seen a lot of guard Lists at ATC and I don't think there has been any artillery at all. Obviously Andrew's first game back and not expecting the reserve block, it's worth experiencing to see the potential when you play your games and design your lists. If you are struggling vs guard or want to see games into certain guard builds, let know and we'll set it up! Depending on the guard archetype, Marines can have really good matches and really bad matches. Just have to build the right tools in at list design.

Thanks a lot. I’ve played my friend 3 times and I’m 1-3 against him. He was beating after he figured out his vect and ruining my AOC protection against the ap of his attacks. Would be interesting to see a game against tank spam guard with mix of Dorn tanks, Russ tanks etc. more interested in tactics to deal with or ignore them etc. if you guys can create a game involving that, would be pretty cool. Guy I play takes 2 dorns, 3 Russ tanks and 3 chimeras with troops. Lord solar in a guard squad and command squad with either two units basilisks or two field ordinance batteries.

As a guard player I usually target small squads with artillery. So if you have hard hitting soft ones, like Scourges Drukhari, those could deep strike in turn two so they get to shot before being shot at. Other than that, try to ignore the artillery but if you really need something on your home objective, either put two weak squads, one strong or something beefy like a transport. Most of our artillery struggle against anything hard now that we don't get lethals and hit on 4+. Now it's the tanks that are scary, especially Rogal Dorn.

I played my friend again and beat him. He didn’t take basilisks this time and took field ordinance instead. The changes to indirect did affect his ability to do much damage which helped. I would have had a different game had he used basilisks. His tanks were def an issue. I had to focus my army on his left flank and let him have mine to get into his lines. It took 2 turns to kill one of his Dorn tanks and deal with his Russ tanks too. Ugh that 2+ save is frustrating indeed. I had to sacrifice a Brutalis and a redemptor in the process, though I believe the redemptor may have been an error on my part. Still was a tough battle.

What marine detachment and what's the general makeup of your list?

with the reduced shooting, there just wasn't the place for them in this specific list. They are indeed one of my best utility units and I really enjoy playing them.

Yeah! We shall see what pairs I get and how the list performs. We have a pre-ATC practice game vs one of my team mates filmed. We hopefully will get that game up this weekend. I will also of course recap the event next week once it's done.

The beauty of the teams format is you can play a marine list without the infiltrators and explore some different options you otherwise would be hesitant to do in a singles environment. Also, it's a bit counter intuitive , Typically if you were heavy with infiltrators, you would never pair into/play those armies with 3" deepstrike rules as they would avoid your list like the plague. Team pairings adds a whole new layer to the game that I think is awesome.

He actually has an Atrapos. We have all the knight variants. He's used the Atrapos a lot and always felt it under performed. With the recent point changes, it certainly warrants another look though! Thanks for the suggestion!

@@tabyrd22 The Atrapos is really swingy with the d6 and d3 weapons but with the points change I looked at everything else and I just don't think there's any competition. An Errant shooting will kill 2 terminators, deal 6 damage to a Land Raider or 10 to a Predator (outside of 12"). The Atrapos performs the same into Terminators, deals 2 more damage to a Land Raider and 1 more damage to a Predator. They have identical expected wounds into those targets in melee. Granted, the Errant will spike damage within 12" and the bondsman ability is more useful but for 20 more points I'll gladly take more Movement, Wounds, and an Invulnerable Save that sticks around in the Fight Phase. I hope that we'll see the Knights again. Lancer, Atrapos, Rex, and fill it out with Armigers. We'll see a different result!

Its...a..Major competitive team tournament. Its all player skill and match ups in the format and not about skew lists or fluff driven crap.
