Reign Over Me - Charlie's Breakdown and Confrontation
An underrated film of Adam Sandler's career.
"When the Twin Towers went down on that fateful morning in 2001, Charlie Fineman (Sandler) lost everything important in his life. Five years have passed since Charlie's wife and daughters died, and now the once-successful and sociable man has become a withdrawn shadow of his former self."

Adam Sandler was absolutely brilliant in this movie. He just "went there".
What song is playing in the last few minutes of this scene I remember the rhythm at my best friends funeral 😔
Such a powerful movie and what he has to endure. The kind of pain and suffering no man should ever have to go through
My dad died, his gf turned into a squatter, filed a false police report against me, and had her sons clear out his house while I was awaiting trial to clear my name. They took even the washer and dryer, but left a family photo of themselves as a means to really rub in what they had done to me. I legitimately lost half a decade of my life fighting to clear my name and I’m still fighting to get sober because I’ve lost so much. People like this do exist and they’re absolute scum
As somebody whit PTSD i hate this part of the movie. He doesn't hate you remind him of what he lost man leave the man alone he's suffering enough he's love you and what you represent too much fhats the problem (idk any who couldn't think about them) he douse think about them 24/7 thats the problem he can't function because of it don't you see that you think he want too feel the way he does f*** no who would he's broken and scared and alone leave the man be he'll heal in his own damn way man adum Sandler plays this role perfectly and he doesn't get enough credit for this CPTSD isn't always in you're face sometimes it's a silent killer something that eats at silently in the back of you're maid torturing you whit what could i have done better why wasn't i their how could i jave been better or done better it eats and eats and eats until their is nothing left too feast on and f*** man this is that in a nutshell ive struggled whit it my whole life the thoughts the slfe hate the slfe indignant shame as a man you're supposed too be strong and something people look to in times of need but how the f*** can anyone be that whit demons eating away at ever fiber of who you are
Ahhh sorry shouldn't rant like that but it hits home and really close to it if I'm honest whit myself
That sigh at 5:40...the disappointment is all over his face. He was winding up for a statement on how they should support Charlie, and they took it as further validation of their claims against him. Can't help but hear Professor Kirke's admonishment in my head as the perfect follow up. "You are the closest thing he has to family." "You might want to try acting like one."
Sandler's BEST movie!
This movie proves how good of a douchbag BJ Novak is!! Man I hated him here. Great movie tho.
"Ryan Started the Fire"
This is such a good movie.
This, click and the cobbler, were adams finest work. Not arguable
The father in law is also a huge douche bag
Does BJ Novak just play a cunt in everything???
How was he not nominated for this role?? Fantastic
I think i missed a great movie...i will see it now.
How Adam Sandler didn’t get an Oscar for this movie, I’ll never understand
Rest in ❤peace Donald Sutherland
What a nice consolation. He's Emotionally unstable and he has a gorgeous woman that wants to have a partnership with him. You know how many guys would give their left nut to have a beautiful woman want their company when they're at their lowest?
This movie makes me cry every time I watch it everyone grieves differently
I cried
What is the name of this movie?
It took me 15 years to be able to look at a photo of my youngest brother and my family has never brought him up since his passing. Seeing this now hits even harder than when i saw it in its release.
Rip the legend Donald. We were lucky we got to have his greatness in the world.
I see all these comments talking about this poor guy and his Broken Heart, people actually crying out and caring for him but that's not how it works in real life. In the real world there are so many men myself included that a single fathers that have been f****** put through the wringer. However in the real world no one gives a flying f***. 99.9% of men out there in this type of situation have to suffer in pure unadulterated silence and get up and grind their ass off everyday without a single solitary person even giving a s***
His attorney should have asked for a recess.
Adam Sandler should've won an Oscar for this movie. Also, Adam Sandler needs to play Bob Dylan
I've never seen this movie, but my eyes are watering just from this clip
I dont think it has anything to do with weight the akolyte proves that. I think it has to do with the fight coordinators and the actors training
"Destroyed my wife a second time." This isn't about your wife, sir. Charlie was right. You and your wife have each other. He has nothing left. He needs to process this his own way.
This is a vastly underappreciated movie. Sandler is very good in this movie.
People seem to forget that comedians somehow end up being the best dramatic actors....
when you get old these movies become more meaningful than a action superhero movie. in this case charlie and the dentist (don cheadle) and his father and mother in law even the judge are all heroes to me.
First time I watched the movie was the only time and it impacted me so much. I cried tears of joy and sadness. I was confused but in a strong state of relatable relief.
putting that picture in front of someone clearly having a breakdown is absolutely the kind of thing that would get you sanctioned. Just saying. That is unconscionable.
Always said it...Adam Sandler has some of the finest acting chops...but he'd much rather bust his own chops to make people laugh than cry.
This movie just proves that comedy isn’t all that Sandler is capable of. The man has range.
Listen to Sutherland, Novak.
Great acting in this scene. By all. Sutherland being Sutherland to a power of 10. Anyone who has had family drama gets how real this hits.
I like Sandler as a dramatic actor more than a comedic actor.
Bj Novak, real douche, real life.
Adam Sandler is so underrated
That lawyer who put the picture in front of him sure was a mean little prick
2 things: 1. Rest in Peace Donald Sutherland you were a true national treasure (even though he's Canadian) MASH,Animal House,Body Snatchers, Ordinary People, JFK, A time to Kill, The Dirty Dozen,etc.... 2. I really like to watch people tell BJ Novak to Shut up!
the judge not wanting to hear a doctor's opinion on the matter at all or recognizing how apparent it is that Charlie needs psychiatric help makes me severely question his judgement on anything; crappy judge.
Charlie did go to a psychiatric facility and he went through a rapid decline there where he was having more and more breakdowns compared to when he was out. Outside, he had his people and his routines, he was stable in a way that still allowed him to be functional. When the judge asked his in-laws if they really wanted to send Charlie to a “place like that” he knew exactly what he was talking about, if Charlie went back, he would have never came back out as stable as he was, or he’d never have made it out alive.
In reality if a lawyer did that he would be in contempt
Well, hell. A 9 minute clip got me crying.
The talent in this scene alone...Donald Sutherland (R.i.P.) Adam Sandler, Don Cheadle, B.J. Novak...this movie is criminally underrated.
this scene still makes me cry :( I loved this movie so much and its top 3 if not the best performance by adam sandler of all time!
I am just utterly in awe of this movie and Sandler’s performance. He is thought of as a great comedian but he is clearly much more than just that. I believe he is one of the most underrated actors of all time.
"Your honor, in my defense-" "🗿 *quiet* . . ."
