MY CHINESE FRIEND GIFTED ME A GORGEOUS HAIRPIN AND EARRINGS SET! It has this gorgeous donut-shaped jade and silver pendent ring that hangs from it, which can also be taken off to wear as an earring. It looks similar to the earrings that comes with the set but it has silver chains hanging from it. She gifted me this because I've always loved Chinese/ Japanese hair sticks, my Bangladeshi mom used to always wear them. However, as I grew older, I realised I shouldn't wear them as it may be culture appropriation and I stayed away from any of those beautiful accessories. My friend was shocked to hear my reason for avoiding them and told me that Chinese people love it when we wear their cultural clothes to appreciate them. So she surprised me with the set. I still believe we shouldn't wear their clothes unless gifted or at a venue/event where we're expected to wear their cultural clothes. It goes for any culture. I personally absolutely hate it when white people wear traditional south Asian clothes (eg sarees) or a necklace with the Hamsa/Fatima hand without knowing its significance. Anyways, thank you for this tutorial I will be learning these techniques to tie my hair elegantly!
