It's 2024. Every game should play exactly the same. I don't agree with that. Metroid Prime is not a first person shooter. They have actively avoided calling it that because they don't want the series to be Halo or Doom or Call of Duty. Metroid Prime is it's own thing and doesn't need to be like the other shooter games.

What makes me afraid about prime 4 is that Retro Studios might play it safe with it. From what we saw in the short trailer it seems they’re really trying to stick with the OG prime gameplay (including combat). I really hope what we saw was nothing and that they’re planning on expanding on the movement and combat from the basic lock-on and dodge gunplay from the og prime games

It's crazy that I'm a Nintendo fan, but my favorite game series are Metroid, Kirby, and Xenoblade. Mario and Zelda are fine, but I never really vibe with them unlike the other 3. Pokemon doesn't count since while the games were good back then, they aren't that good nowadays.

I'd like Ridley to return in a Prime game for two reasons. The first is obviously because he's a legacy character that has some of the best boss fights in the series. Ridley provides boss fights too fun and a theme song too baller to keep away forever. The second is so that Samus and Ridley can have some kind of character dynamic throughout the game. Samus and Ridley are arch enemies, think Joker to Batman or Green Goblin to Spiderman. Yet in the games thus far he's basically just a monster you fight and move on. Show Ridley being a competent leader and why he's in charge of the Pirates. Most importantly show how much of an evil bastard he is like in the Metroid backstory/origins manga. If a narrative has Ridley be heavily involved maybe he'll actually be the main bad guy of the game. He has yet to play the role of central antagonist when he could easily fill that position. I guess you could use another member of his species if Nintendo doesn't want to bring back Ridley AGAIN, but then it just wouldn't be the same.

I've been calling the Prime games a space opera for a while. I'm surprised to see that you even thought about it or even suggested it. I agree that the 2D Metroid games should remain isolation. But I disagree with you on the FPA games being a space opera. It's kind of what I hate about Prime 2, Prime 3, and Other M. Metroid started out with isolation, and when you get rid of that, it just feels less Metroid. I understand that Samus is going to eventually meet up with people, but I just want isolation. Metroid was inspired by Alien, not Star Wars. The 3D or FPA games could be more like the Alien movies if they're going to have her interact with people or other species.

Wait so was that back to the future 3 scene in back to the future 2 at the end played in theaters? Like wowing fans its nearly done filiming and editing. If so thats what i want for prime 4. At the end Nintendo show us a preview of prime 5 or a timeline of the future metroid projects. Other ip fans don’t even know the word of “waiting”till you wait for a Metroid game. I can only run through DKC tropical freeze on wii u so many times. Like donkey kong to Metroid we have been waiting patiently so long. The Nintendo logo is starting to turn green from all the Zelda. Nintendo gotta get to sharing the love and give the best ape and ultimate warrior of the galaxy some couch space. Besides they have seniority in the Game.thats all about games. over Splatoon and fire emblem why Nintendo aren’t they treated as such. So metroid prime 4 along side the last 2-3 years for myself have been the major games that feel like iconic Nintendo hate to see them muddy their own image

I generally agree except i think i want a future 2D title with multiplayer co-op/survival features, like a cross between FF and Dread, serious graphics, multiple routes, the ability to split up or assist each other for serious hard core sequence breaks.

Nintendo has a terrible track record of story writing and voice acting. Outside of 64/GC zeldas their stories are mediocre. Their attempt at adopting industry standards (voice acting, online) are just plain lazy. In Nintendos mind gameplay is the most important (cuz it is) but writing in depth stories with quality VA and dialogue costs extra money. Look at the MGS series. The gameplay is functional if a bit clunky,but without those absurd stories and cutscenes (overrated imo) i think they wouldn't be so beloved. But more people want to PLAY a game than watch it, Nintendo knows this, so that's what they focus on. The day link talks is the day Zelda loses popularity. Look how terrible the voices are in Botw (the deku tree? Terrible. King Rhoam? Doesn't sound old enough, Impa? Sounds like a 25 year old trying to sound like a grandma and failing) Link and Mario aren't corny, the day they spew a bunch of dialogue will be a dark one indeed

While I agree that 3d metroid games should show story more, I disagree about 2d exclusively having isolation. I love Prime 1 for feeling so alone on Tallon IV. I'm totally ok with other characters showing up, but I want Samus alone for a majority of her mission. I love how insettling Metroid games are because of the isolation, and I would love for them to lean more into horror elements.

You’re right. 2D should be more gameplay focused. While 3D should be more story driven. And you’re right that Prime 1 isn’t the best. Great game, but I played 2 at least twice and found it improved on the idea of 3d Metroid in almost every way. And it’s crazy that it’s been 17 years since 3. They were making those amazing games in the 2000s. I can hardly imagine what anything beyond remasters will be like, but adding some Doom mechanics would work.

according to a lot of old Nintendo fans, the only people allowed to talk full eng or Japanese is Fox McCloud and the Star Fox team. Back on topic, 3d Metroid going more of a space opera route would be a good thing at least to me.

Really wish people would stop mentioning Doom and Prime in the same breath. They are so different it’s ridiculous. I know you aren’t linking them directly but I keep hearing Doom talked about in videos about Prime 4 and it’s irritating tf out of me tbh. Stop bloody doing it!

I’ve always been a fan of the older slower paced Metroid games, and from what it sounds like to me, you want Prime 4 to basically be another Doom game which is the last thing I want. I’m not saying it has to be just as slow as the other games, but with that faster pace it kills a lot of the immersion and atmosphere that comes with games like that. Super Metroid will always take the crown when it comes to its world despite its older graphics, because if the 2D games keep being like Dread then all those nicer graphics get lost while Samus speeds by. I’m fine with the way the 2D series is headed, but Prime always emphasized its atmosphere and world so much more. Prime 3 tried to take the action and spectacle further than the others and it never got close to the recognition that Prime 1 got. I think there are some points you made that could benefit Prime 4, but adding everything that’s been put into Dread would miss what made the Prime games so great. Metroid Prime is not a first person shooter it is a first person adventure, and adventure games take their time.

Absolutely man. After playing the last two DOOM games i need Prime to be real updated in order to fully enjoy it. Well, i could let em get away with Prime 4 sticking with the classic prime feel, because it's a long awaited return. But the one AFTER that needs a big movement and combat update.

Other M had the major issue on the Development side of being a game that took the resources of 2 games. The main thing i want from the 2.5D is for background doors in 2D games that allow us to switch axis, and her ultimate charge beam counter melee's. I don't think many abilities translate to great additions to the 3d games from that title though. Edit: i don't like cutscene QTE though, cosistency of kit is the reason.

Remapping controls of an entire first person game into a 2d sidescroller does sound a bit crazy.

I personally want to see all the original bosses brought back. Kraid, Phantoom, Draygon, Ridley, and Mother Brain as Space Pirate commanders/bosses along with some new staples.

The music at the beginning are giving me some Dread vibes. Switch-era Nintendo isn't afraid to get creepy...

Peach showtime was a forgettable spinoff, but this has potential to be a legit classic.

I hope this game is massive in size. Huge map, plus the still world.

Curious to catch your take on this. So many parallels between this and tears/botw. Makes you wonder how long they worked on this one. Seems the depths are similar in concept, but the still world isn't just a dark world or underground version. It's twilight zone trippy!

Nope, I think a DIRECT follow up to Wind Waker would be great! They could make it like an adult/teenage Link in Wind Waker style would be amazing!

I do not enjoy hollowkinght. I played it for maybe a few hours or so and wasnt impressed tbh. Its not badly designed, its just not exciting. Im trying symphony of the night (ive never played Castlevania for any appreciable amount of time) and i need to play more but its just the same exact background for long stretches and is kinda similar to Metroid 1 in that way. Its confusing. Ive played through super Metroid, fusion, zero mission,prime 1 and 3 and dread. Dread is easily my favorite side scroller(not just metroidvania) ever. Its so slick and smooth. Its like butter. I will always rather play a 3d game over 2d but dread is so fun to control it tops every Metroid for me.

I want Prime to continue but I also don't want Retro to be shackled to one series. Hopefully they're big enough to work on two games at the same time.

No I don't think he should. Ridley appeared in Metroid Prime 3. He skipped 2 so he should skip 4 as well. Especially if this game takes place after Super since he died for good in that game. We don't need another clone.

I agree with you that Ridley should return in Metroid Prime 4. Most Nintendo series have their returning bad guy or location to them (sometimes it's both) and Ridley fits the bill for the former. He's like Samus' Bowser, Ganon(dorf), Andross (Give him a boss fight in the next smash game pls), King Dedede (he's mostly a good guy now but he was like this too), and King K Rool. It also feel a little weird for Nintendo to push Metroid so much this gen with all the re-releases of old games, the remake of Prime 1, and Ridley finally being in Smash. Just to have him not show up one more time on the switch since Dread didn't have him. Plus as you said it gives them a chance to put another new spin on his boss fight. Also on another note, I never thought I'd see King K. Rool slander in a video by a Nintendo fan, and when you said he was a knock-off of Bowser's Super Show version. It got me thinking "They are very similar aren't they" and I started listing some traits the two share in the games. Like being Kings of a Race of reptiles, love to steal something or someone from the main character (usually Peach and her kingdom and DK's banana horde respectively) and they are both returning villains for a Mario series. I don't think this makes K Rool bad tho, though there are some good things about him like his love for changing his name and design to fit his plan of the week, however, I can see why some would find him a knockoff of Bowser.
