We got one, a Bluefin tuna out of our home port 45mins away from home. This is my 4th BFT landed and first high speed trolling. Every trip I learn something new. Glad this was an easy one, took our time bringing it in after it took 400 to 500 some odd yards out just about 1/4 spool left on my reel. But took about 45mins and fish was not hot next to the boat. We are blessed to have this chance a...

Family fishing day. Got out early and our limits for 4 in a few hours. We fished crippled anchovies with a 00 dodger 200' down on the wire. One camera file didn't make it, but got the action with the head cam. Our daughter got upset because she thought we were quitting before we got limits. She counts fish in her head and gets all happy that we got 8. Great day on the water go get some fish, th...

Monterey Bay Bluefin Tuna 80# 10/16/21
how big of a boat do you need to catch tuna like this?
Mine is a 20’ but whatever you’re comfortable with. And whether plays a big rool depending on the size of your boat. Just be smart and know the wether and your limits.
If tuk’s on the boat, you’re definitely catching fish…
We had fun.
Nice. Are you guys on a Skipjack 24?
It’s a 20’ converted to an outboard.
What radio channel so you run out there?
11 in Monterey is the most used.
You guys are elite!!!! What size madmac produces the best for yall?
I’ve only used the 200. But know guys that use the 240 and seems to work as well.
You Guys are animals !! I've been gearing up to try my hand at fishing tuna. Thanks for the inspiration ! 👍🏻
What is the name of the bent butt rod you are using?
Winthrop Terminator butts, custom built with Seeker 4x and 3x OSP blanks. My buddy had them built years ago.
Looks like a blast! Two" Homies" having fun n putting some tuna in the freezer!👏🎣👎Fun video, thanks👍
Nice haul! How many miles do you typically run round trip when targeting BFT?
Maybe 80 to 100nm Most of the time they’re 25 to 35 nm out.
@fishdog1000 oh dang, that's too far for my older 2 stroke! Congrats on the tunas though, looks like you've been killing then.
Good stuff!!! What model reel are you using?
Penn international 70 and a 50w.
Excellent video! Thanks for sharing.
Tokyo Fish Market calling ! Great video, you guys killed it. Liked, Subscribed... now, when's sushi ?
Tuk needs bluetooth!
What an epic day!! You guys killed it!!! I noticed you guys use those adjustable butts on your rods. What are the pros to using those instead of a standard rod for trolling?
Thanks. With the adjustable butts give more options. If you have 0° rod flush mounts you can leave the rod in the rod holder. And there stronger, less chance of the butt breaking on heavy drag.
@@fishdog1000 thanks for the info!!!
That is a nice video
Awesome job on Albies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Kris, I just wanted to let you know that I am planning on going after BFT. Next Sunday the 13th out of Bodega, and was wondering if you are thinking of going too. I'm trying to get a few boats to run so we can work the grounds and try to locate these fish, and for safety reasons too!! Thanks brother!!!!!!!!!
Nice job. Caught one a week before this video. Nice job!!! A family that kills together grills together. }<\\\*< ~
Do you prefer going out to the right or left when you launch at loch lommond? I’m looking to try hali fishing off my kayak for the first time from lommond
It depends on the time of year. Early spring South Bay hold more halibut, and as the water warms up and less fresh water flows in to the bay they start showing up in San Pablo. I would think there’s some fish in the shallow flats along the channel. Just watch out for the areas of no fishing around the islands as you leave the harbor.
Nice job!!! Caught one that same day off the fingers. Solo. Felt very lucky to get mine in. Hooked two that day fraught one for twenty minutes lost it. The other a little over an hour. Nice job for Santa Cruz ✌🏻
Right on thank you. Good job landing yours. This was our first, and it got me hooked. Good luck and get ready for this year🤙
Great teamwork landing that monster. Glad to see you and your wife enjoying it so much. I need to take a lesson from you and your wife once we get a boat.
Thank you. She’s the best fishing partner ever. Even when she misses netting a fish
the way you reel stresses me out...Geez!
nice little video, i fished next you last year , white 25' raider
Thank you. How did you guys do last season? We only landed 2
@@fishdog1000 3 . biggest was 145#
Nice catch 👍🏼 , what rod were you using? 🍻
Thank you. We are using Phoenix black diamond hybrid 60-130 , with a Penn International 30visx loaded with 100# line. Check out our other one from Bodega Bay that was a good 130# fish.
What was the SST that day? And what other ocean parameters did you look at?
Think it was 56 or 57° there was a good warm water push from off shore. I was late to the bite cause I had to work during the week. But guys where getting them during the week. This year good size Bluefin have been caught from Fort brag and south. Guys in Brag and Shelter cove was getting them in 54° waters. I’m learning that the blue fin could be any where in fall as long as there is something for them to eat.
Nice job! Great teamwork!
Thanks for sharing, just fantastic. Congratulations
Nice fish!
Thank you
Hey brother, you and your wife are absolutely AWESOME, congrats on that beautiful BFT!!!!!! I will be on the hunt for those next year, hopefully they will show up again!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love the video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you. For sure we’ll be after them next year. I think they will be out there next year agin 🤙
Bad ass
Nice job on that fish, your wife’s a trooper!! What rod was that on?
You guys trolling or flyline? Didn’t see that rod on the Downrigger
That one was on the downrigger 50’. Middle line I had fly lined, and the other side I had down 100’. The fish bit just as I has switched battery’s and put up the camera. I’ve done one trip since then, but with the storms coming in I feel they may be moving away. It’s sad to think we’ve got 7 to 8 more months before some kinda of tuna come back.
@@fishdog1000 mackerel right?
@@fishdog1000 also man your wife’s a trooper that’s awesome job both u
@@micci7888 yep mackerel.
@@fishdog1000 what was your trolling speed?
Good job just landed out it’s was 150lbs
Thanks, this was a year ago. Hope this coming up weekend will provide the same.
@@fishdog1000 yea the tuna bite has been kinda dead recently
@@happyfish9803 yea the wind has keep a lot of guys off the water. A few fish has been caught this week even with the water temp around 55°
@@fishdog1000 yea, that storm mixed up that water pretty bad only heard of a few
Awesome!!!
That was a fantastic job, Your wife did a great job driving the boat.... and helping you REEL The fish in

Nice catch, thanks for sharing!
You guys did a job getting that beautiful blue fin. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you
Good job guys I want my honey be back with me fishing.
awesome flat water , how far out/ nice grade of albies too1
Thanks, think that day was 30 to 35 miles out
Awesome job guys I’ve never done it before so I was looking for the regulations but I couldn’t find them so 2 questions one where do you find the regs for albacore tuna and also what are they. Is there a size limit and also a limit or is there no regs on them.
Thank you, you can find them in the California Ocean Sport Fishing Regulations. I don’t think they print books any more but you can download it from wildlife.ca.gov/Fishing Here is a copy and paste from it for Albacore. 28.38. TUNAS. The following daily bag limits apply: (a) Albacore: (1) South of a line running due west true from 34°27’N. lat. (at Point Conception, Santa Barbara County) - The special limit for albacore is 10, which may be taken or possessed in addition to the overall general daily bag limit of 20 finfish specified in sub-section 27.60(a). (2) North of a line running due west true from 34°27’N. lat. (at Point Conception, Santa Barbara County) - The special limit for albacore is 25, which may be taken or possessed in addition to the overall general daily bag limit of 20 finfish specified in sub-section 27.60(a).
Ok thanks
Nice fish how fast are you trolling?
7 kt seems to be the boats sweet spot. But 6 to 9 kt will work depending on the day and the fish.
So cool the way you enice
Good job guys
Thanks, it’s looking like a window this weekend agin. Be ready 🤙
It’s good day fishing Cris felizidades
👍
It’s good video cris
Tough year. Glad you got some. Looks like water already too hot :( Your buddy's face after he farmed your fish was priceless!
Thank you, I thought that fish was hooked better for a pull but thought wrong. More tuna soon some where of some kind.
Good times. What model and size boat is that?
It’s a 76’ Skipjack Open20’ I converted to a out board and a few other upgrades a few years ago. Skipjack Boats are made Southern California, now a days the don’t make any thing under 25’
@@fishdog1000 nice. I heard they were close last week. Tempted to make the run up there
@@davkrat5 60° water last Sunday was right on the coast, blue water was about 20-30 mile out. And fish where spread out. Looks like the water may be lining up for next weekend. But keep a eye on Bodega Bay to Half Moon Bay waters something going to happen soon. Next wether window fish could be anywhere 🤙
@@fishdog1000 thanks. HMB is my home port. Canh wait for some pelagics to start showing up.
@@davkrat5 I heard of a Bluefin caught off of Half Moon Bay a few weeks ago. Folks just half to get out to the sea mounts and go fishing, and be ready for any thing. Next week wind should be down and people will be looking around
