In this video I start my search for insulating panels that are not plastic based. Interlocking connectivity can suit many applications. The R-value of aircrete and extruded plastic based panels are very close, but the K-value is much better with aircrete. 460 Ford Engine run 2

This engine was rebuilt .030 over. The base timing was set and the engine was run for 2 hour break in. After being delivered to my driveway, the headers were installed along with the old carb for testing. Water and fuel was hooked up and here is what we got.... Tried those Mr. Gasket copper header gaskets and have blow-by on one cylinder, the carb's idle circuit is not right and needs rebuildin...

I was tired of wrestling the engine up and down with the manual assist trim cylinder that came with the engine. Trying to find a hydraulic replacement unit for a reasonable price was equally stressful ..... So, Time to build it myself ! The added bonus of this system was the stump knocker engine free boarding option. Feel free to ask questions below or subscribe for detailed parts and schematic...

Mercury Mariner Tower of Power start after 17 years
Переглядів 27 тис.8 років тому
Mercury Mariner "Tower of Power" start up after sitting for 17 years . This is the 1983 115 HP power trim version. A HP ratings were changed after this year, this would be equivalent to a 135 HP newer model.
Buddy of mine bought a speed boat with a mariner 115 he had it a week ran out of gas put regular gas in and blew it up 2500 down the drain
Got the 84 version! Love it!
Anyone know how to check oil level i cant find oil dipstick?thanks in advance if anyone can help its a 1979 90 straight 6cyl
It’s a 2 stroke
Never use starting fluid on a two stroke engine it has no lubricant in it and you can score the cylinder wall and rings . Its best to use some kind of squirt bottle with mixed 50:1 mixture of fuel and two stroke oil and squirt it in the carb opening for starting fluid
New to boating here......is the fuel pump in the tank or can I just drop the line into a tank and run it for testing? Got the same exact engine on 1982 Dynatrak that I am fixing up.
Outboard motor tanks come wirh a bulb on the line to pump up the line pressure for starting.
@@rocktech7144 thanks, yeah wasn't sure if that just acted as initial vacuum....thanks, would rather not fill up the tank after years to test the motor.
I don't know to much about boats but its seems you sir know what you are doing when it comes down to it!
I keep a spray bottle of pre mix 32:1 just for this reason, starting fluid kills rings
Did u put any kind of oil in the spark plugs
Yes
Hello , you are amazing... I love all your videos. thanks for sharing all these great contents. SUBBED and LIKED ! a fellow creator,,[][][[]
If you can find an old 70hp Johnson around the 80's model with the older style head with water jacket. Use the power tilt trim from this to fit the 40, 50 and 60hp Johnson 1990 model up with the tree side bolt bottom mount clap type. Remove the engine lower cover and carbies to be able to flex the pivot shaft outwards to fit the 3 cylinder power trim unit. You will have to cut off 19mm from the bottom of the original pivot mount to fit first then slide on the replacement power trim. The shafts are the same size so no re-shimming is required and it works a treat. Easy to get replacement part for too unlike for the 40 to 60 hp model. If any of your bolts are siezed remember to use heat to loosen so not to snap them off and put a tap into them and blow the threads out with compressed air. Remember to grease up all your threads before refitting. Good thing is there are plenty of early 70 hp Johnsons out there being sold for parts.
Must have been a fresh water motor
Lake Tohopakalega bass fishing fresh water lakes in central FL
This is the most American thing ive ever seen. Wire nuts in a marine application. They didn’t even come that poorly setup from factory
It is just a temporary splice for testing on the driveway. Obviously not a MARINE application. Duh
You had my attention right till that either/starting fluid🙄
Looking to us the same ones to build a shed.
Don't use starter fluid on a 2 cycle engine. It doesn't have any lubrication in it. All the oil in that engine probably dried up years ago, so it was especially bad for you to start it that way.
Normaly that would be true. However I don't start an engine that has been sitting without removing the plugs and running penetrating fluid through the pistons first. That was off camera.
@@rocktech7144 That would lube the cylinder and rings but not the crank and rod bearings. That oil has to come through the intake to reach those. Best to mix your gas at 40:1 when starting one of these that's been sitting up and shoot some gas into the carburators before starting. I've seen a couple of these old motors damaged lately for these very reasons.
I was given one four months ago had a bad rectifier in a bad trigger and he said he had change the stator on it so I went ahead and just put all new electronics on it cost about $600 on Amazon new CD iboards new rectifier new stator new trigger and I've not yet fired it but that's coming probably in the next couple days almost choked when I saw this video this one's a 1980 it's been sitting for 17 years
Thank you for showing your cuts on these timber logs...you might laugh but I want to build a home doing this since I am 58 bigger logs are physically not something I can do plus living in Texas I won’t be dealing with sub zero weather so smaller logs are acceptable plus having no building codes is a plus...thank you so much 😁
Glad to see someone making use of my ideas for the same reasons I do.
not sure how you came up with a 115 being equal to 135 now. The standard changed in 1983 and they used to measure at the crank but now they measure at the prop shaft. If anything this would be closer to a 100 now.
Somebody is going the wrong way. 115 was 135.
@@rocktech7144 Shane Wagaman is correct.
@@CrispyStrahan How do you increase horsepower at the shaft? The part about changing where they measure horsepower is correct though
@@rocktech7144 what do you mean increase the horsepower at the shaft? Are you talking about modifications to make it have more horsepower? I have no modifications other than the oil injection ripped out but you can bore the cylinders and get new pistons I don’t know too much about that though.
That is impressive
Please tell me the wire nuts were temp.... motor sounds good. Properly splice those wires otgerwise next owner will have issues
Of course the nuts were temp. Always solder and wrap electrical connections on engines.
Very nice sir. Way to beat those exorbitant prices for factory units.
This clearly was not the first start but ok
Gas hogs but great motors I still run a 86 90 hp very few problems other than keeping gas in her she's a thirsty gurl😃

Badass
Motor hasn't run in many years, lets see how it likes 5000rpm before its warmed up!! Lol. Great find. I'm jealous.
You can use the "bad" aircrew as an insulator in walls. You can use it for a subfloor in expansive soil.
your work clothes are better than mine
These motors are best ever produced imo love it now put on a hydrostream lol
When i find a hydrostream or the right glastron it will be back in the water
For $300 you can get a used one on fb on line yard sale that’s made for it.
Just wondering do i need to have Ignition on to make it running.. Engine came without controls and was going to be put on boat with mariner90 Hp thats now on but needs to come down. Is that pre mix fuel or just regular unlead. Thanks for great video now u giving me chance to start mine "I hope so of 450$ in trash.
Ignition harness is standard wiring to power engine coils and activate starter. Pre mix fuel is standard 50:1.
@@rocktech7144 i start the engine but wont keep running with remote start. As soon i let trigger go it will shut off. Will try to hook up to a boat and see if it will run with harness and controls.
@@rocktech7144you can start theseoyors with a rope. The flywheel magnets generate voltage to the charge cools ( not charging coils ) in the stator which powers the power packs. The trigger is like a set of points. Tells power packs when to fire which cylinder. Power packs sent voltage to coils which steps ip the voltage to the spark plugs. The flywheel inner hub as a magnet which has a split split in it. This split, as it hoes by the segments in the trigger Tells power pack when to fire.
I just bought same motor, cannot find where battery wires are coming on or what kind a fuel does it use. I will try to figure out but if anyone knows and can take pics or video where do they stand will help a lot..

Rock Tech , I love it. I have a complete lift system for a 1964 90 hp Evinrude . I'm going to use the cyl like you did ,add flex braided lines and mount the pump inside where the battery area is . Doing this for a friend on a pontoon 48 HP.spl.

Awesome engine!!!
Just an idea, you could probably get by with just a single action cylinder. This simplifies the plumbing and wiring. The top cylinder hole just has a vent line and you can use a pump with just an on off switch and no complicated valving. One relay energizes the pump to push the motor up, the other relay opens a solenoid valve that releases the oil back into the sump. The pump pushes it up and gravity brings it down. That would also give you protection from hitting unexpected objects. The piston would have have enough resistance to keep the motor down when reversing but would still give some if you hit something, just as the factory unit does.
Sounds good. You build it and show me how it works. Ok cool.
Dear Friend , This Engine Is an Old Heavily Used RV Motor with Some Marine and Aftermarket Parts on it ... It Sounds Like It Barely Runs An Extremely Low on Compression , I would Say with a Load Put on this engine it wouldnt Perform at all or perform very poorly ... The Engine is also covered in paint carelessly , The carb being painted really was a giver as well as the fact the carb is missing its very much needed near inch thick spacer an the carb studs look crazy out there all wrong . Im Sorry to say but after reviewing this , this engine isnt rebuilt its an old pile from a junk yard they painted an told you they rebuilt .... they probly got your badass 460 block , heads an internals , charged you out the ying yang , and got you a 200.00 pick an pull 460 an about 7 bucks in ford blue paint ... I wonder how much they got you for in total on the rebuild an shipping 3 to 4000.00 ? or more ... Also The Copper head gaskets you speak of are reusable and one of the best head gaskets money can buy you , Again this also points to extremely poor quality on the re-builders and again I question it even being done at all .... Im going to take a long shot here an say this a late 70s early 1980s Rv Camper Engine with about 280,000 hard miles on her ....
An astute observation on the paint job. However, the rest of your assumptions are dead wrong. This was removed from the jet boat you can partially see in the background. The crappy mic on the cell phone used to film this could not handle the harmonics from the 4 inch headers. Most of what you hear are the solid lifters. Adjusting them is part of the tuning process along with the water cooling metering system. The carb was the original double pumper and was not rebuilt at that point. The extra paint was someones attempt to protect the exterior from saltwater as this was raced up and down the Atlantic coast in FL.
@@rocktech7144 That looked like a solid 60lbs of oil pressure. Not what you would get from an old worn out engine.
@@rocktech7144 I used to Live in Lake worth West Palm beach Area ... never seen a Jet Boat on the Ocean not Once ever .... I have 460 in my 1987 24 ' Eurosport Rated at 440h.p. bone stock ... Ive been wrong before , The carb spacer missing will also cause it to run poor due to the heat sink missing an improper atomisation ...

@@civilianspaceagency7106 First off... ....... Let me thank you for insulting my intelligence on several fronts. ....... 1.......I wasn't trying to impress anyone. Thanks for this. Thinking about getting the Bennet pump as well. Do you have a diagram for the pump to wire it as a dual action? And is the color coding you have accurate to what would need to plug up to the switches?
Hi, may you can help us. How could you remove the top bushing and pin? ua-cam.com/video/oM7oLhHuoSY/v-deo.html
First you need to grind the flat spot you made down with a dremmel so the pin will push into the hole. Then get a pneumatic hammer tool / gun and push the pin out with that. I used the pinpount shaft after drilling a small indent in the center of the pin to keep the tool centered. There is alot of corrosion holding that pin , trying to move it by hand is almost impossible.
Thank you! So it is not too easy....
Robert Papp It is not that hard with the right tools. You may notice that i also cut a small notch on the left side of the mount so i could get on the pin straight and drive it out. Most people who buy a pneumatic tool kit have the hammer gun and dont use it. I borrowed mine from a neighbor. Good luck
