Earthquake - "What Not To Do"
Переглядів 8 тис.12 років тому
Almost as important as knowing what to do, is knowing what not to do. In short: don't run outside and don't shelter in a doorway. Even after an earthquake, staying inside is the safest step you can take. lf the building you are in is damaged and is unsafe, before going outside survey the area and the situation to make sure it's safer outside.

Earthquake - "Drop, Cover and Hold"
Переглядів 77512 років тому
When the shaking starts, the best place to be is under a sturdy table, desk, bench anything that gives you protection from falling debris from ceilings and walls. Here's how to ride out an earthquake under a table. A lot of people ask me about the "Triangle of Life," which recommends sheltering next to objects - and is NOT recommended by reputable safety experts. If you want more information on...

Yes, pay phones, as they will be restored faster than residential lines. Still applies in 2023

If an earthquake occurs while I’m driving home in Los Angeles and I must abandon my car and walk home, I will need the following items to make it back home. Boonie hat to protect from the sun, quality pepper spray to fend off bad guys, a few small bottles of water, some granola energy bars, and a small lightweight pistol to deal with really bad guys,

I don’t get this most people have died from being crushed from a collapsing building others still trapped in the rubble and yet the advice is to STAY in doors. Id rather go run outside to the nearest open space or the carpark. Your just hoping the building doesnt collapse

Very good! I split items up into kits and spread through the car so as not to take up my entire trunk. ON visor I have a "Resque me" tool that will cut seat belt & break window, laminated maps of local area & state, Rite as Rain pad & pen, Car Rey & insurance plus a First responder card. In glove compartment I did a Communication kit with solar battery charger for my cell, cell charger cords, Fox 40 whistle, signal mirror , mini radio & batteries, slim flashlight & another pad & pen. Then another kit with Swiss army "ranger" model, mini multi screwdriver, pocket knife, 6" adj wrench, retractable razor blade, Bic lighter, all weather matches, wet fires, ER blanket, folding N95 mask. AMazingly both kits fit in 5"x8" Maxpedition bags. THere was still room for the sunglasses & leather gloves. A EMT told me the key is to have the stuff within reach since so many people get trapped in their seat. SO, I always have my water bottle & a few food bars in the center console. THanks for your video. IT's the best I've seen yet!

Hmm... the advice to always stay inside seems a bit too generalized. If you live/work on the first floor of a building surrounded by wide open spaces it would be best to be outside away from the building out in the middle of an expansive lawn.
