Very helpful, thanks!!
you're very welcome!
You made a great set of videos about the cello fingerboard! It was easy to follow and full of useful information. Thank you!
❤ Happy holidays, Sophie! 🎄
Happy holidays, Ridie! :)
Me parece tentadora una versión en jazz. Bach no tiene límites
so for the Piatti 12, we aren't actually leaving the string with the bow?
Thanks for the lovely excerpt!
Thanks for the helpful hints and especially the lovely excerpt at the end!
It was very helpful 😅
glad to hear that! :)
Absolutely ethereal. Thank you.
Thank you, Stephen!
Really enjoy those Sevcik videos! We don't have enough of those around approaching the details of those variations
Sophie, me gustan mucho tus clases! no te detengas, un abrazo desde la CDMX.
This technique works incredibly well for intonation. For keys with one or two sharps or flats you can get away with the open strings resonating, but if you are in six sharps or five flats then natural resonance of the instrument doesn't work, and a drone is essential for finding the correct notes exactly spot on.
I've been playing for just over a year now and working toward my second grade. As a (very) mature student I'm looking for exercises that will allow me to develop stamina in my right shoulder and wrist and this appears to be a good one and I shall introduce it to my regime. My main issue though lies in my right wrist which, through a bad crash, doesn't align naturally like my left wrist but I have a great teacher and we work around this.
Look forward to it!!
Excellent analysis! Thank you -- much appreciated!
Oops! The exercises got cut off or there is a continuation video coming?🤷🏻♀️
There is a pdf with the exercises available here (also in description above :))…To receive your free Dr Sophie "ADJACENT STRING CROSSINGS" Pdf, please go to www.sophiewebber.com/contact
@@sophiewebber9115Thank you ☺️
New bridge and now months later a new bow...thank you for this reminder. 🍧🌹
Thanks. Is the 32 second bow useful in real play or is it just for learning to control the bow?
absolutely! it increases our bow control for any passage involving long, sustained notes... for example in Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time, or the final open C in Fauré's Élégie...or Pärt's Spiegel im Spiegel... etc
Very Cool. A Great Piece of Music.
Beautifully done...
Thank you so much, Jason!
incredible sound
Thank you, Rylee! This is a French Dieudonné cello from the 1930s I was trying.
Happy to see you again😊 Mette from Denmark.
Hi Mette, great to hear from you :)... you should join our Better Bach camp this summer! June 18 - July 2 (a deep dive into Bach's G Major Prelude)
@@sophiewebber9115 Hi again. I’m not yet a playing the suites. I’ve finally found a nearby teacher, and we are working on technique, like all major scales in three positions. It’s so much fun to me😊
So pleased you’ve uploaded a new video! Made my day 🎉🎉🎉
aw, that's so sweet!
Amazing analysis ! So high is its quality, so deep the understanding of Bach s prelude! The performance at the end of the video transpires this understanding. I ve never heard such a beautiful version. Humbly, thank you.
Thank YOU! Your kind words are much appreciated <3
Tuning: 0c: A4 = 440Hz
Brilliant tips. I wish I started the cello when I was younger. 😊
Thanks, Shay! I have worked with many adult students (including a few who started in their retirement)… it’s never too late to learn 🎶🌺
Yes indeed ! I am 10 years playing now , and it’s really coming together.
Oh my goodness, I've been playing and learning cello for some years now and no one has ever pointed this out to me. I've been struggling with sound production and squeaky sounds for a while, to the point of nearly giving up, then this morning I tried your technique......WOW!!! It has made a huge difference. I will keep practising to make this become permanent. Thank you, thank you so much for sharing this. I have fallen in love with my cello again.
That's wonderful to hear, I'm so glad this has helped you, Dawn! It's funny how often a small but essential piece of instruction can help connect the pieces :)... in case you're interested, I have an online cello course (Dr Sophie Cello Lab) that you may like to check out. You can sign up for updates on future course offerings (typically ranging from 2 weeks to 3 months) here: www.sophiewebber.com/drsophiecellolab Best wishes!
I tried to find the free parts for my cello ensemble. Did I miss them? LOVE THIS. I bought your Gigue arrangement.
Yes wonderful and nice video
Many thanks, Robert! Best wishes!
I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for the exceptional guidance you have provided me with regarding the intricacies of body mechanics in relation to the bow technique on the cello. Your explanations have been truly enlightening, and I find myself gaining a deeper understanding of how to integrate body movements for a more nuanced and expressive performance. Your commitment to teaching and your ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and accessible manner have made a significant impact on my work I appreciate the dedication you bring to your role as cello instructor, and I feel really glad. Thank you for sharing your expertise and for being such an inspiring teacher. I look forward to continuing to learn and grow under your guidance.
Hello and my aopologies in the delayed response. Feedback like this is truly special and much appreciated, so thank you, and I'm so glad to hear that I've been able to help you in yoru cello journey <3... in case you're interested, I have an online cello course (Dr Sophie Cello Lab) that you may like to check out. Such a pretty face as well as technique should get far more views 👍
I had best results for junior strings for 25 in schools with opens opens opens. Apart from Rolla d & Suzuki UK string teachers think left hand oblivious of how to teach bow angles pressure travel rt arm weight .elevation.would a good singing teacher attend to only tongue words diction reAding and ignore breath control ,the generator? So what is the bow if it not the same function ?
I’ve been playing cello for 10 odd years now and I never thought about this. Thank you!
You are welcome! ☺️
Wow. Thank you and I wish you all the best for the coming year.
Thank you, Barrie! All best to you too!
Thank you
I could watch you play all day, I'm in the beginning of my journey, enjoying all of it, thank you for the hope.
Ah, welcome! Happy 2024 cello-ing!
Thank You Sophie! You are definitely helping me get back "up to speed." All those years ago when i studied in high school and college, i dont think ANY of my instructors talked about this.
You’re very welcome! Were you a former music/cello/guitar student?
Thanks so much Sophie! After 25 years away from cello, I really need this help. It's VERY evident that I need much more time practicing basic cello movements than playing Zeppelin covers on guitar! What a reality check! 😂
Happy to help! :)
Muito bakan..!
thanks as always !! brilliant
Thank you, Stephen!
I’m very happy to have met you, too😊
Sophie, you are brilliant😊
Aw, thank you, Mette! Glad to have met you!
Thank you!
You are welcome!
More bow mileage at the bridge! Thanks for the tip! 🙂
Precisely! :)
I was in my primary school choir for three years then...😭. In my head I am perfect but in reality could not hold a tune to save myself. 🌹🍧
the good news is it doesn't matter too much... it's more about vocalising than being the next Kiri Te Kawana/ Pavarotti ;)
