The Hayes Brothers
Приєднався 15 вер 2012
I started this channel a few years ago as a sort of musical diary - or scrapbook - for my brothers and myself. We all three began learning to play guitar before the age of 10, and after 50 or more years still love it as much as ever.
I appreciate the many kind and encouraging comments we have received, and through this channel we have discovered many great guitarists that we would have never heard without it....

Shade Tree
Came up with this tune a while back - I liked it, but my first video kinda sounds like a 45 record playing on 78. I've slowed it down a little, changed it just a tiny bit.

I'm a long time fan of the Louis L'Amour western novels.... playing this tune, I could see in my mind William Tell Sackett zigzagging his way up a steep mountain. That's just the way my brain works I guess :-) I may do a solo version later. Maybe.
Step It up

One of those rare times we all three got together to play. Ben is playing his Martin D-18, Jim is on the Taylor 314ce, and I'm on the AC3R. Hope you like it...

Came up with this one a few days ago... I plan to do another version of this later with Jim, probably in a lower key and maybe a bit faster. The guitar is the Yamaha AC3R.

An original tune... Jim is playing the Taylor 314ce, I'm on my Yamaha AC3R.... It was really hot when we did this one - too hot for a hat! Thanks to Retrotone Guitars for putting me in the driver's seat of the Yamaha!
Blue Morning

Sometimes "blue" means a sad or melancholy sort of tune; sometimes it means a sassy sort of tune - like Milk Cow Blues. This falls somewhere in the middle I guess. Tuning is in DADEAD (thanks Colin !)

Something I came up with that kind of changes direction mid way. The title seemed appropriate.
Guitar Ballad

Basically, just noodling. I heard Jeff Daniels playing his Love Song to the Guitar, and tried to learn some of it, but didn't quite make it...

This is a kind of restful tune, with a peaceful background... thus the name!

Abram Falls in the Great Smoky Mountains is a mighty pretty spot. Trying my hand at a solo playing my little Taylor GS Mini.

Another original tune of ours. Ben was able to sit in on this one. We didn't have much time to practice, so we just let 'r rip.

I'm still exploring the style - it's different from my usual but it sure is fun!
Snake Creek Gap

Just having fun. Something that popped up in my head this morning - kinda sounds like an old Civil War banjo tune I think. That's how I came up with the title - the Union Army (or part of it) took Snake Creek Gap on their way towards Atlanta .

nice
Thanks! 🙂
This tune reminds me of Toe Rag by the Majik Mijits. Steve Marriott had been a prolific songwriter and performer during the 1960s, but from the early 1970s his life and career went quickly downhil, and the last 15 years of his life he mainly played hectic electric blues in smaller venues. During this period out of the blue came the gentle acoustic Toe Rag, played in a style he had never done before and never did after. What luck I found your channel and can enjoy more of this kind of beautiful guitar playing.
Well, I had to look it up.... but there are some similarity there! Thanks
I love this!!! 😍🎵🎶
Thanks 😊
A pleasant little tune. Keep up the good work.
Gonna try! Thanks :-)
I’m a Louis L’Amour fan as well. Is that Double Drop D tuning?
I believe it is an open C with the first string diminished.... I just crank the tuning keys till I like what I hear 🙂
👏🙏👏love it!👏🙏👏
Thank you Sir!!
Love it ❤
Thankee ma'am 🙂
Nice pickin' boys.
I am back for beautiful guitar music in a terrific setting. This is only a guess but I think you are in Pennsylvania??
North Georgia :-) Thank you!
So wonderful performance and so beautiful sound!👍👍👍
Thank you! You are a very good guitarist also :-)
Great sound gentlemen! Just don't stop doing it!
Thanks!
Nice thumb pikin boys. Nice groove.
Thank you kindly!
You three sound so good together! Wonderful song!
Thanks :-) It was something we put together quickly.... It is hard for all three of us to be able to get together at the same time, so practice time is limited.
The Na’chel Music. Man, you guys are having a blast. Love it!
Thanks! It was fun to do...
Hi Hayes Brothers! Really enjoyed this, thanks. I’m curious if we might be related? My GrandDad, Ray Hayes was from family in Tennessee, and they went to Enid, Oklahoma probably just before or after the Depression… Maybe we’re long-lost kin!
Well, if we look far enough down the family tree trunk, we just might be! :-) Yes, we are brothers. From left to right, Tom, Ben and Jim. Thanks for the kind comment!
Mighty fine pickin" Chet would be proud!
That is a nice compliment, and much appreciated!
THANK YOU, MY DEAREST BEST FRIEND'S & BROTHERS, FOR ALWAYS SHARING!!! ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL AS ALWAYS!!! FAMILY HARMONY ON FULL DISPLAY!!!❤❤❤😊😊😊❤❤❤

Thank you!
Another awesome performance! Tone times 3!! 👍👍👍
Thanks 🙂 I've been trying to work out your Akinsdale... not having a lot of luck so far, but I love that song!
@@thomashayes3417 that’s pretty cool and I’m honoured that you’re trying one of my songs! I had a lot of fun transcribing your song Abram Falls! I wish I had tabs for Akinsdale but unfortunately, I’m just not good at making that kind of stuff. I don’t know how to read music as well as I learn, strictly by ear. Nonetheless I try to record my videos, showing my hands so the people watching them can hopefully figure them out by seeing the positions of my hands on the fretboard. good luck good luck!! 🙏👍👍
@@colindamo - We "play by ear" too. I think there are both advantages and disadvantages to playing that way. It's fun anyway!
@@thomashayes3417 yes I totally agree, playing by ear is fun. it doesn’t feel like homework 👍
You forced me to get my dobro out. 👏
Cool! Ben actually had his with him, but we didn't use it.....
Nice pickin' boys, a real treat.
Thanks - it was fun to do 🙂
You guys are the best!
Thank you!

Love it! Keep them coming! Can’t wait to hear the version with Jim. Also that Yamaha sounds awesome 👍Yamaha is making some pretty cool stuff. They have a model called FG9 and that one sounds awesome as well😀
Thank you sir! Yes, I really like the Yamaha....
wonderful playing ! is that dadgad tuning?
Thank you... the tuning is an open C with the 1st diminished, capo on the 4th...
Again ...another awesone one ! On a side note , ... is that an Orangewood ? The headstock shape is the same , but the name doesn't look long enough to say Orangewood .
Appreciate that! The guitar is a Yamaha AC3R
Sounds like a good start, you just need some lyrics to finish it off. Great work!
Thank you 🙂
I like it!
Thanks! 🙂
Sounds a little like Lightfoot chords.Something you wrote?
Thanks - I've always been a Lightfoot fan. Yes, it is an original tune.
Wow, another awesome song! Such a big sound with the two guitars. Cheers!
Thanks!!
Man! What talent! That’s good stuff!!
Thankee kindly :-)
Awesome picking!! Thoroughly enjoyed listening!!
Thank you kindly!
Trust me, the internet doesn't need any more old people that play mediocre music. You suck
Good tune!
Thankee :-) It was so hot we almost didn't try it!

Thanks!
Met y’all at the music store today, make some gospel videos 😊.
Thanks! - it was nice meeting you....
Good stuff
Glad you enjoyed!
Met y’all at the music store today, truly appreciate what y’all do with music. Thank you, and GOD BLESS YOU Always. Make some more videos soon, maybe Gospel… 😊
Really nice meeting you as well Donnie. Most of what we do on the "Hayes Brothers" channel is original tunes that we've came up with ourselves, but for some really good old time gospel songs our brother Ben has a channel called "Afternoons With the Prophets." He plays with a couple of guys and probably the majority of their songs are old gospel songs. There's a few on there that I sat in and played with them. I think you'll enjoy it. God bless
Nice pickin’!
Thanks - you do pretty well yourself :-)
Ready enjoyed that my friend thankyou 👍🏴
Thanks!
Sounds great!
Appreciate that!
Wonderful Tom! Nobody else sounds like you.
Thank you Sir! You know I can say the same thing about you - one of a kind :-)
