Epic mountain passes - Du Toitskloof Pass
Riding the Historic Du Toitskloof Pass
Today, we embark on another thrilling motorcycle journey, as we ride through the captivating Du Toitskloof Pass, connecting the scenic towns of Worcester and Paarl.
Du Toitskloof Pass, named after Francois Du Toit, a 17th-century pioneer, is a legendary mountain pass that has captivated travelers for centuries.
The Du Toitskloof Pass has played a significant role in the development and history of the Western Cape province in South Africa. Its origins can be traced back to the early 18th century when Dutch settlers began exploring the fertile valleys and mountains of the region.
This pass, situated in the scenic Boland Mountains, was strategically chosen as an access route between the bustling town of Worcester and the picturesque town of Paarl. It offered a vital link for trade and transportation, connecting the interior of South Africa to the flourishing Cape Colony.
Construction of the pass began in the late 19th century under the supervision of Thomas Bain, a legendary engineer renowned for his mastery of mountain pass construction. The project was a monumental feat, involving manual labor and engineering ingenuity.
Riding along this historic route, you can't help but marvel at the remarkable craftsmanship that went into creating this winding masterpiece.
The Du Toitskloof Pass stretches over 11 kilometers, with an average gradient of 1:11, making it a challenging and exhilarating ride for motorcycle enthusiasts like ourselves.
As we ride through this mountainous wonderland, take a moment to appreciate the awe-inspiring landscapes that surround us. The towering peaks, lush valleys, and cascading waterfalls make this journey a truly immersive experience.
Riding through the Du Toitskloof Pass is not just an adventure; it's a journey back in time. We are privileged to tread upon the same path that countless travelers have traversed before us.

In this tutorial I am demonstrating how to replace your old brake pads on the BMW G650GS (2012-2017). This is a straightforward process which you can easily do yourself by following the BMW approved Maintenance Manual. This was my first time changing the brake pads on any motorcycle. It is a good way to learn your equipment and at the same time save in your maintenance costs (if done properly)....

I had a same issue, just unlucky that water was spraying on power curcuit and did a fuse do drip off. Will order new part :)
Bro, your video convinced me to look inside my Philips 3200 and as it turns out I have the exact same problem. I was able to spot the water gushing out of the same part by removing the back panel. Merci beaucoup =)
Thank you so much. Make sure you wear nitrile gloves when handling oil for your health, though: we appreciate you being with us a little longer!🤝
Same machine and exactly the same part broke on mine.
Thanks to you i didn't even have to make a effort to repair it, i could found the leak that wasn't the same but i've had all into i've needed !
At 5:58, under the orange hose (bottom right), there is a white hose running from top right to bottom left. On my machine this pipe just hangs loose and water runs out. The rest of the machine works fine so I am assuming this is waste water. If someone opens their machine, would they let me know where this tube is meant to plug in to please?
Hi Rowan. The hose in question should be connected to a white connector. If you look in the video at 05:40, there is a part with a green and white sticker on the bottom left of the coffee machine, and right beneath it, you will see the connector for this hose. It is hard to spot it because it runs slightly forward in the machine and then twists back. I hope you'll come right.
@@davidlogasi1835 thank you David - appreciate your response. Wish you a happy life
Thanks for this usefull and detailed video :)
I replaced mine today and one of the 2 piston has a hole its cracked. I thought the piston were holow and only the perimeter was pushing against the pads
Thanks, legend. It now feels way easier to do it myself. Under warranty I was sending my machine to Philips and now it was a question of if I should just ditch it. Unfortunately, looking for alternatives gives same vibes - no one manufactures machines that work 10 years straight
After successful disassembly I tested it and oh god, this plasticnpart sprinkles water right on the cables that are behind. Some of them are rusty and basically what triggered me to look for info - my circuit breaker was tripping. Thanks again!
Don't tight the bolt with 40 Nm. You are going to destroy everything. BMW change it to 20-22 Nm.
Hello Are you using Metzeler Karoo Street tubeless tires on spoked wheels with tubes? Is it safe?
Hello Alex Thanks for watching the video. The Metzeler Karoo Street can be installed with tubes on a spoke wheel without any issues and works well on this motorcycle.
Nice protection bars - where did they come from?
Very good lesson, however can you adjust your grinding knob slightly to fine. Because your espresso was a bit watery.❤
I just bought a secondhand 3200 and this video pointed me in the right direction. The breakdown was slightly different, but the internals are shockingly similar. Mine is leaking from another junction closer to the face of the device. It appears to be right at the bypass for the hotwater (which dispenses normally, without leakage). Hopefully this part proves to be just as inexpensive and easy to swap.
Thankyou sir. Very helpful.
Wonderful! Your video helped me a lot! I ordered the new part, received it today. I installed it and we can drink a nice cup of coffee again ☕👍
I have the exact same problem, but mine is fully leaking. No coffee at all. Just ordered the part. Should be here in 3-5 days. Thanks so much! Very well done!
isn't the torque for the calliper screws 28 ft lb? which in Nm would be 38? I wentwith 40 Nm (1 below your recommndation) and it felt way too tight.
Thanks for the very instructional video by the way
Hi Andre, Thanks for your comment. The torque setting was taken from the BMW service manual. Therefore, that was the setting that was used. My recommendation is to always follow your specific motorcycle service manual.
Thank you on your video and on letting us know part number. I had same problem on my 3200 series and fixed it without problem.
Thank you! Your video helped me to fix mine! In my case was just a loose hose.
Too much bullcrap just to change the oil!!! Great video, but BMW what were you thinking ? I really like this bike too! But…will look at a CB500x now.
My Philips HD7769 leaks at the bottom. A very common issue on forums. Maybe manufacturers have to stop producing products that will certainly break so we will buy another one. I 'm buying myself a traditional coffee maker with nothing electronic or moving parts. Oh ... and F you Philips!! F company.
Hi. the device leaked. we have opened. Heater connection broke. we replaced it and put everything back together. everything was working fine. today the device leaked again. took it apart again. one transparent tube separated. which brings water to the latte go. and when we put it together everything seems normal. like last time. everything back in place. but now the ignition button is not responding. does not receive at all when pressed. and the device does not turn on. we are not masters. The first time maybe we were just lucky with the repair. can you maybe give some advice? thank you very much
Hi pricajmotomato8463. I'm sorry to hear that your coffee machine is giving you problems. It is possible that water from the pump sprayed the electronics and, therefore, created a short. If that is the case, I would imagine that you will need to replace the control panel altogether. I'm almost certain that this part is available online or, alternatively, you can take it to a professional technician in order to assess the damage.
Great video; thanks. What is the purpose of removing the calipers by removing the two screws? Is it just to get the space to push the pistons in? If I’m going to remove the wheels for tire replacement, I’m wondering if I will still need to remove the calipers.
Thanks for this video! It’s real and it’s what actually happens in a real life situation. Probably I would only change the standing position on the side one, as you said before. Thanks to this video, I know what I will have to do, I’m new to bmw.
Por fin!!! Un gran vídeo!! Llevo buscando la reparación de esta máquina durante mucho tiempo y por fi aquí está!!! Enhorabuena!! Y muchísims gracias!!! 🎉🎉
Thank you!
You just saved me a good amount of money, thanks!
Hello, thank you for your effort in the video. I have the same machine and it doesn't open at all. I opened it and the capacitors around the yellow transformer were very hot when plugged in. If I change the capacitors where the yellow transformer is located, will the problem be solved? thanks
Hi Ali, Sounds risky.. I don't recommend touching the capacitors if you don't have the correct knowledge to do so. I'm not sure what the issue could be with your machine. Rather, take it to a technician to avoid injury.
Thank you for taking the time to male this video up as with it I was able to troubleshoot my 3200 model which ended up having the same issue. A parts supplier had the piece shipped out to me the same day.
Hi! Where did you order this part from mate?
Hi Kyperman97 I ordered the part from this online shop: www.partshub.co.za/
Thank you very much for this video and the link to the part . My milk isnt sucking so well and its just steam than milk . do u think this could be it ?
Hi Cliffiejacobs. Thank you for watching this video. It was a while back since I made this fix, but if my memory serves me well, It had a problem pulling the milk from the milk container, which ended up with the replacement of the milk carafe unit. It could be the problem in your machine as well.
עכשיו אני יודע כיצד לתקן את הדליפה 🕺
Very helpful video and some good riding, thanks.
Pomocny filmik 👍
Fantastic video. I am having this same problem, and so will looking to solve based on your video!
Thank you so much! I changed many o-rings without success till I discovered this! Thank you
Hey, I have the same problem. Was the leaking water warm?
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I had the exact same issue. Fortunately, my replacement part arrived in a day!
Привет,можно спросить?
Mine keeps saying no water but the tank is full. Any ideas?
Hi Yasmine, I would start by checking the water tank. At the bottom of the water tank, there is the hose connection, which also incorporates water level, which might be blocked by hard water calcium or dirt. Try to clean the water tank with vinegar and the hose that connects to it from the coffee machine. If it fixes the issue, I would also consider decalcifying the coffee machine as well. I hope this will help.

If you're riding that thing on off-road or trail, you've got to replace your rear sprocket with a larger one. Probably two teeth or more.
I assume that adding additional teeth to the rear sprocket will give the motorcycle more power as per the 'granny gear' on a bicycle with a penalty of reduced top speed 🤔. It's a trade-off, but if you are riding exclusively off-road, it could be beneficial. I would imagine ..
Those stock tires are great on road at least!
Excellent, same part broken on my machine too. Bad quality component obviously. New part should arrive in 3-4 days. Testing it was a good way to make sure the ground fault protector worked in the house. Blew straight away when water sorayd over cables 😅
I use a large oil syringe with about a foot of tubing to suck old oil out of reservoir . That way I don’t have to remove panels
Thank you! This machine is wonderful, and it seems they all have the same issues. The other one being the milk jug has a grommet revision. I ordered a new jug.
I am a long time street rider/tourer ... Sand is one of the hardest things to ride in for us..... it can almost instantly defeat a 400-500 lbs touring bike like a BMW with street tires and steering geometry. The G is doing surprisingly well. Falling is normal in that stuff with a heavy compromise dual sport. I am about to buy the G...having no dirt skills after 60 years riding.. I am glad to see this.
i have the same...waiting for the part to arrive...$5 part, but $55 for shipping 😞 what did you do about the coffee grind mess? I took mine apart and there is no coffee mess like yours.
