Question, have you seen a veterinarian? Like with people, to my knowledge there is no 'cure' for arthritis. Seems all of us and our pets face arthritis as we age. But these suggestions are intended to help them cope. Boss was taking pain relief medications and I added these additional foods in hopes of helping stave off the progression. I tried so many things, red light therapy, massage and many other things. All of these things were done over the years. I felt they helped but I knew they were not going to cure him. It is hard to watch our precious pups feel pain. What works for one dog may not work for another. If only there was a magic pill. But keep tying and I hope you find something you feel helps! It is clear you love your Jon Jon.

I totally understand. We cannot fix everything but I really found incorporating these into Boss's diet did help. If nothing else he loved all the extras :-))). He LOVED food! If we can slow the process and make them more comfortable that is a lot!

@@itsnotjustdogs thanku for your reply it really means a lot to us. We put coconut oil ~ organic, cold pressed all singing & dancing version & tumeric but we not sure on the doses. Jon already dying of a main heart valve not working. We are the first people to record that CBD oil does not work on a greyhounds main heart valve failure sorry to go into detail. His meds £550 a month until some1 recommended vio vet now it’s £215 a month for same tablets. I’m so sorry to sound like skint flint but his arthritis ganna cost loads more ~ it’s ok cz I jz do over time but these tips u have given cost nothing. Most people would’ve put JJ to sleep jz cz if the cost. Initially it was £1100 than the additional monthly costs I don’t want to seem like I’m complaining I jz would like u to know that you have saved us money regarding Jon so thanku

@@itsnotjustdogs thought I would give u an up date he’s been having tumeric, coconut oil & sardines but nothing has changed. They have not worked :(

You poor thing! My sister used to do use bath towels, a bucket of light soapy water and then a clear water rinse towel. He never smelled! But if your babies have fleas you might want to talk to your vet. Those need to be taken care of.

@@itsnotjustdogs yes, and the vet has recommended against commercial drugs and collars, as toxic and risky for my 15-yr-old dog. And some essential oils pose similar hazards. Will keep trying, thanks.

Older gal here with big dog in the Western Galilee. I lived with a Lab for two years during which time I witnessed her bathing once, with 2 of us holding her down. Now I am alone with a Canaan Dog, roughly the same size, strong and hates water. I got her to enter the shower area with a treat/bribe but when I turn on water, she runs. So thank you for this method. I can get 3 more buckets and tether her to the yard swing maybe that will result in a less dusty dog. I also have to look for that mitt, I've never seen that before, I have a brush, she still sheds much. Eats salmon dog kibble. She tolerates other dogs as long as they are properly introduced. She does not tolerate cats. So not sure what she will do at the dog salon (there is one), she growled at the vet. Aviva in Akko

I am so glad you found this helpful. It is hard to see our fur babies in pain but it makes it easier to know there are some things we can do to make them feel better. I was so encouraged as I began to implement these things into Boss's diet and found they did actually helped.

I know it is hard when our fur babies are hurting! But glad to hear you are going to take him to the vet. Although arthritis cannot be cured there is A LOT that can be done to make them more comfortable! Please let me know how it goes with your vet!

Boss and Bito were my sister's dogs. When she passed they were already older so we knew the chances of their finding a good home were not good. Once we got them both home they immediately stole our hearts. Bull Mastiffs, to my surprise , are the sweetest dogs on the planet. Gentle, goofy giants! Still think about and miss him every day. LOTS of good memories!

I am so sorry to hear your boy has dm. It is a dreadful disease. And no, Boss is no longer with me. he crossed the bridge. Only good news about this disease is that there is no pain. But hard for them to understand what is happening. I tried lots of boots etc. Boss had Big Wide feet and I also felt he hated the sensation of the boot. For us the sock was best. lightweight on his foot. Good luck.

My Boss was a giant dog too, although not nearly as big as your dog!!!! Be sure to start slow in case it doesn't agree with your dog but I worked up to 1 tsp a day. My dogs, Bobito the chihuahua as well, both liked the taste. I could give it to them in a spoon and they would lick it right up! But you can add it to their normal food too. 2years old and already 170!!!!!! what kind of dog do you have????

dogs central Asian Shepard.. He dont like the bitter taste I cant put it on the food, then he wont eat it at all.. Does the blk pepper goes for the dog also?

dogs other sites say to add coconut oil and make a paste, dont see how he would eat it, unless I put it in a Capsule

Wow! just saw a picture of your dog....Gorgeous and REALLY big. If he doesn't like it, best not offer it to him:-))))))). I do believe they have turmeric pills and other ways to get anti-inflammatory foods into his diet. Check with your vet.

I totally agree. My daughter currently has a pointer, (Riley June) and they too have TONs of energy. She walks her in the am and then takes a long lead in the pm to the park when few are there to fetch balls. Still not enough as you say. I can see both sides of this coin. Riley has super anxiety, not dog friendly yet, so I know the problem when people don't leash. But high energy dogs need to run. My daughter is finding a lot of people, including her trainer, have safe big fenced spots to rent. A life saver!

Wow! 2 years!!!!! And yes, get as much hair as you can off. That alone might make him feel good. But I like shampoo that is as natural as possible. Oatmeal is soothing. Please let me know how the bath goes! Go slow. He may just love it! I had a stray I found and I was expecting some sort of battle to give him a bath. I soaped him up and he slowly melted into the ground. He LOVED it! :-))))))))))) You just never know.

Unfortunately my sweet Boss passed away. I still miss him but as we all know our fur babies are forever in our hearts and the memories we shared are priceless! But I still use this on myself and really like it. I use it on cuts, some hip pain I experience occasionally. To me it is the modern day hot pad:-))))

My sweet Boss crossed the bridge a little over a year ago. I did a post on it. He was diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy, a truly dreadful disease for which there is no cure. I still miss him everyday, but now I can smile and recall all the silly things he did that made me laugh and the love he gave me. Senior dogs are gifts.

@@chantallolive6004 Actually I appreciate your asking. He was quite a character. He and his brother , Bito, were my sister's fur-babies. When she passed we brought her senior fur-babies from Arizona to here in California. They quickly stole our hearts and we made the most of the precious time we had:-).

Yup! You can hear the train EVERYWHERE! Big part of the history. At first I thought it would bother but it really doesn't. And thank you, Boss was a beautiful and adorable,(if you can be that big and still be called adorable!) dog. I miss him but now can begin to remember the fun and funny parts.

You are so welcome. It is so hard to watch our fur babies struggle, especially when they can't tell us where and how much it hurts! I spent LOTS of time trying as many natural remedies as I could find. Luckily, he LOVED food, any food :-))) and was a willing participant! Great substitute. That's the good thing about making our own treats right! We know exactly what is in them and can adjust to their needs. BTW I love pitbulls!!!!

Everything has side effects. Even human meds! When I read the info on some of the prescriptions my mom takes, it can certainly give us pause, right! I guess you have to have confidence in your vet. Get the best advice and then consider the pain level, age of your dog and how much and how often it would be needed. Boss was already 11 years old. For a Bull Mastiff that is getting up there. I wanted to keep him out of pain if possible and too spend as much quality time together as possible. RIP my sweet boy, I miss you everyday:-(.
