[WIP] Earthquake Weather | Rain World AMV
Hi, this is Awniber. Rain World is a beautiful game that has impacted my past four years, I love Rain World and it led up to this project, the Rain World Earthquake Weather AMV. The song hugs the game narrative, and ties together the story of slugcat and that of iterator, where both struggle with and fight against their different plights.
I first encountered this song in 2019 in a school assignment where I design a geometric representation based on the song. Right then, I felt it has a "wandering in an apocalyptic world" vibe to it. The song features a nonchalant beat, but it simultaneously feels like a heartfelt catharsis from someone who's been tenacious and diligent in their enterprise. It paints a picture where they strive with utmost sincerity in their personal endeavour, all while the world continues to amble at its own pace, not ruffled in the slightest. I came across Rain World in that same year, and it felt like a sign that I need to do this.
So far it's mostly done in Clip Studio Paint EX. While I've joked about making animation in what was an illustration software, I have come to learn its ways and capabilities in terms of animation. It does surprisingly more than I gave credits for it; I learned a lot during the process, and it manifests in the animation. For example, early on, it stutters because I treated it more like a storyboard, but then I discovered the exhilarating 2D camera feature, excavated a different, workable layer organization approach, and that enabled me to experiment more with camera movements. There are A lot of shots; and from this repeated making process come some insights. For example the attention paid to how focal points link between and continue its trajectory through shots; and designing visually interesting path, movement, transformation for the focal point. The principle of arts and elements of design do apply to the "invisible" focal point, and I find that intriguing.
I've been wanting to make something for Rain World since 2020. I made a MAP part in 2021, and that urges me to make more. One year ago, I associated the song with the game, since then I've been inching on it. I thought I could power through it during the college summer months, but I overestimated myself and underestimated the workload for a full animation; and just like that, school season returns, again.
Let's see whether I get to see through this the coming year, eh?
Peace,
Awniber/时云
ʕ●.●ʔ Thank Videocult for making Rain World.

After multiple tries spanning three years, I'm in. The Sheridan animation program. It's been a wild ride. I received lots of help before and during the application, and I'd like to give back some. It's a bit long, but I think I dedicate this to those who want to get in very badly and would scour all info, a bit like how I was then haha. I encapsulated just about everything I thought about in th...
*eyes sparkle while awaiting this masterpiece*

This is amazing- i hope you someday finish it!
After all this time this is still the most anticipated rainworld animation
Hi Everyone, Thank you all for your lovely, supportive comments, I do read them all and they mean a lot to me ><... Just want to say, this is still being worked on...! Just, very slowly... because I am a college animation student who have assignments and soon the thesis film to work on - 2024 will also be a busy year. As a general rule of thumb, I had to keep my school stuff float before working on this, therefore the delay. But one sure thing is I will finish this eventually: it carries too much personal significance for me to not to ><;...! I will try to keep an updating log. Feb. 27, 2021 // The earliest record of this project: a text outline with timestamps of what goes into it. Aug 27, 2022 // This video. Dec. 21, 2023 // In extension to what's in this video, I finished boarding the rest 46 seconds of the song. There was some major project management revamp: Instead of one gigantic csp file of the full film (which was crazy... but I didn't know any better in the beginning), I managed to separate the csp scenes and set up a preview scheme where I export only updated frame sequences into an adobe premiere project. Jan. 4, 2024 // Reference sheets for FP and Moon puppets, slugcats. ... For anyone who's checking in every now and then, thank you for your patience and continued support T T... I really do appreciate that. I'm thinking of a place to deposit the process work for anyone who's interested... not yet set up though °A°;
It's great to hear that you'll finish it eventually! I do rewatch it sometimes, it's been a great inspiration to me for over a year now. Good luck with not just this, but your other endeavors aswell!
@@pezvonpez T T I started making animations because of youtube animators. Hearing that it inspires you makes me so very much beyond happy because that exact feeling is close-to-heart!! Thank you so much! I'll do my best this year ><;
Take your time, my friend! Animation is hard and takes time, and your work is of extreme quality, it's more than reasonable for you to work slowly! Be sure to hydrate and stretch :D
@@pezvonpez YES !!!!! I AM SO HAPPY TO KNOW THIS IS STILL BEING WORKED ON !!!!!please take all the time u need!!! this project was so inspirational to me when i first saw it, and it inspires me even more that ur still adding more !!! GOOD LUCK AND IM SO EXCITED TO SEE WHAT U DO NEXT !!!!!!!
AHHH UPDATES, I'M SO EXCITED!! idc where you wanna post any tidbits or updates, i'll follow you there whereever it is, I love this video so much. i'm especially interested in those reference sheets, i love seeing how animators plot these things out!! yippee!!
The ACTION and MOVEMENT is this is absolutely incredible. Even as an sketch, this has to be one of my all-time favorites
oh this is so incredibly gorgeous
youtube animators on their way to drop the hardest amv of all time then disappear for a year: (seriously though this is insanely good, the camera angles, the pacing, the storytelling, i really hope we'll get to see the finished version)
Hi. Truth be told, I’m in animation college right now and the grind is real with job prep, school film, and thesis prep ; ; I hold this amv very dear, think about it all the time, and work on it whenever I could… This project has become very loaded with personal significance and therefore I’m very much determined to finish it eventually. Thank you for your expression of support. ^^ <3
Anything new in this animation?
i'll be updating in the comments ;;
I really hope this'll be complete
Wow! A lot of detail, 3d camera movements, character expressions and fluid movement, and a coherent story shown with 3 minutes! This has potential if it were rendered out fully... Although I doubt that will get done anytime this DECADE if you try doing it alone...
This is so good and energetic! All the action sequences and dynamic movements are really cool to watch! Especially the scene depicting the monk and survivors opening. The way the slugcat gets thrown around is fun as well.
It's so cool to see the world of RW properly 3dimentional! I bet it was difficult given the fact the game has one pov!
i hope i can see the full version of this someday, even now, it looks amazing
It's become a 'thing' where anytime me n my friends see this we have to click and watch it again, it's so stunning and I'm so excited for if you ever finish it! I love the part when it gets really rainy with the screenshake; aswell as the beginning sequences with Moon and Pebbles. AHHH and Moon's scream tied to the beat.... aah and the scavs...+ the big rectangle, that I assume will eventually be a leviathan? IDK I love every part of this so much, genuinly so stunning already
I'm amazed by how well you draw volume from basic shapes and your understanding of 3D space. What you made is really inspiring.
Well said!!!
When submitting, did you include the process work and if so did you add it all onto one the same file or did you submit it separately?
Nope. Process work isn't required. It's just the finals that are uploaded. On the website they'd have a slot for each part of the portfolio. (at least when I did it
this is so gorgeous, like legitimately amazing, other comments put it best. i’m in awe
THIS IS SO PRETYYYYYY
This is probably one of my favorite AMVs (not just for Rain World, but in general) regardless of it being a WIP, I keep coming back and watching it. The camera angles, movement and character expressions are just so good!
i come back and rewatch this animation every now and then its so good
Same
This is my favorite rain world animation. By the way, are you still planning on finishing it?
This looks so cool
even though its a wip, (probably done by the time im commenting on this lol) everything looks so fluid. i love all the perspectives and the moving camera sections, so well done. i think this also kinda outlines some of the more important moments i n rainworld! overall this is one of the best animatics ive seen!
this is so cutee!!
This is so cool!!
это чертовски ХОРОШО! работа с персонажами, фонами, камерой и анимацией на ВЫСШЕМ УРОВНЕ!! 🔥 так держать! 💪 желаю получить много просмотров на этом шедевре и добиться желаемого результата в будущем!
Just wow. Holy fuck. This is insane I love this
this made me feel things. this is incredibly made, and even though it's not finished it still looks incredible! the section with the slugcat perfectly portrays the feeling of playing the game blind for the first time, unsure what's going to happen. amazing job! this is stellar!
This is right up there with 2 snacks mlp animatic
This is literally the coolest animation ive ever seen. Like its actually crazy
omg omg plz finish this it is so beautiful
i always come back to this because it is absolutely one of my favorite pieces of art in this fandom, its so dynamic and beautifully animated and ARRGGRHHH
ive watched this countless times since it released, just want you to know this is my favorite animatic of all time !! its one of if not the best in this fandom, gawd its so good and inspirational
THIS IS LITERALLY SO COOL?? I can’t even find a good way to word a comment to properly explain in detail how much I love this!! ITS SO SMOOTH HRHRGRHRH
Pretty good considering it’s 5 fps most of the time
Fantastic animation!
Really good animation altough sad, all the ways slugcats have died and suffered :(
I don't understand this but cool
Cool
I love how you drew and animated the Iterators! I really feel Pebbles’s struggle, being responsible for Moons death. The facial expressions and body language is perfect! I also love Moons tiny freak out at 2:32. I also love how you drew the Scavengers bullying the Scug at 2:10. Not often does an animation give me feelings directly from the facial expressions/body language. I’m excited to see the finished product! Also I’m just in awe of 1:42.
