NEW CAR REVEAL! YES!! 2015 Subaru WRX Bushing FAIL!!! WTF!
i have a chirp only erratically over 3.5 k rpm is it this cluth throw out bearing ?
Hey what's up! I don't think so, the chirping happens when the clutch is engaged at any RPM after spirited driving. Sounds like a pulley bearing issue.
thanks for answering all my questions over the last week. I should have gotten into JDM OEM modding years ago.... I waited too long, and it's really hard to find these suspension parts. The STI springs for the OEM Bilsteins are impossible to find anywhere.... Japanparts, Blackhawk, even ebay etc. don't have them in stock at all with no ETA if or when they will get more. They say they're in stock but when I purchase them I get that dreaded email saying they're not in stock... It seems 2020 was the time to buy STI JDM parts.... s209 parts weren't VIN locked at the time either... i.e s209 intake system which I've been trying to find for the last 2 months. I would also prefer to get the s209 dampmatic Bilstein shocks, a lot of ppl on NASIOC IWSTI forums seemed to have snagged the s209 suspension in 2020 before subaru VIN locked them as well. If you know anyone that has those springs in stock, will you let me know. I'm literally struggling sourcing them, thanks!
Dang man, sorry....that is surprising to hear. I would ask Japan Parts if they carry S207, S208, or Sti Type RA-R coils and dampers. I believe they all used some form of STi Pink Springs and Bilstein Dampers. Another more unofficial route is to start calling Subaru Dealership Parts Departments around the USA and see if any of them can get you the S209 parts that you need (this was how people got the S209 air intake system, etc). Different dealers can get you different parts. I also suggest talking to @Archer1.7 and @AJsti24 on NASIOC. These two members are very smart, know the JDM parts market very well, and may have good connections.
Hey sorry for so many questions. How is the handling and ride quality after the Type RA Bilstein + the STI Springs set up
Hey what's up! These are progressive springs so they pair nicely with the bilsteins to offer some comfort over small bumps while hugging the road when it's smooth. I changed most of the bushings to poly or metal spherical at the same time so it's hard to pinpoint comfort since the ride became harsh. I heard this combo was a big game changer from those that only changed the springs and shocks out.
Looks like you can just keep the OEM one, and add the additional two bars below it.
You are so particular, I’m surprised the slight off center of the exhaust doesn’t drive you crazy 😂
lol, it does bother me when I look at it but my WRX exhaust is uneven as well and I ended up getting used to it.
I know you will fix it 😊. Thanks for the GS update.
Yippee. I haven’t even watched the video yet 😂
Hey John, just subscribed to your channel, I appreciate your love for cars and love your collections of your cars. Let me know when you come to Sacramento man!
Hey what's up! Thanks for the kind words and sub!! Would love to visit Sac town asap!
Did you reuse the bump stops on your OEM setup? Or did you have to buy different ones since the STI springs lower the car more
Hey what's up! These Bilsteins are inverted dampers with internal bump stops, so you do not install bump stops. OEM STi shocks are also inverted dampers with internal bump stops.
Where did you buy these springs from, and the rears?
Hey what’s up! Japanparts rhdjapan blackhawkjapan all carry these springs
@j168vlogs ty, I found them on black hawk few days ago, is black hawk legit? I tried ordering and my bank flagged the order lol so I thought maybe it's not legit site
@j168vlogs thanks! What about the bilsteins? Where did you order those from?
@@ttis3701 What up! These are STi Type RA shocks you can get in the States or STi Type S shocks in Japan so plenty of options. I think Japan might actually be cheaper since USD/JPY exchange rate is phenomenal. This combo was amazing.
Do you have a video installing this part?
Hey what's up! not my video but this helped me: ua-cam.com/video/8pOeOiIzScg/v-deo.htmlsi=e2pjnfZ216oBoWwu
@j168vlogs thank you!! One quick note, have you seen the strut tower bar in sti.jp says it's not meant for LHD vehicles? Kinda makes sense why they weren't concerned with a single sided front draw stiffener as the non j-pipe side is actually the driver side in JDM vehicles. I'm sure there's still a difference but I just thought it was interesting to note and was curious if you've had the same thought.
@@mrm7525 Haha, everything fits and works awesome in my WRX. You should definitely install the strut tower bar before the flexible draw stiffener as it will cause minor oversteer. There is a specific WRX model that allows me to keep the engine cover which was very cool. I remember reading in a forum the reason they said the strut tower bar did not fit was because the brake cylinder is on the other side of the car for USDM. From what I remember, you would switch the clear protective sticker on the tower bar from the LHS to the RHS side lol. These flexible STi items are amazing to experience. If you have the funds, the performance gains are very unique.
What brand are those jack stands? Do those crease the pinch welds like the regular "u" style ones?
Hey what's up! They are ESCO low profile jacks. Supposedly one of the best available. They will bend your pinch welds so I would get pinch weld adapters like these: www.ecstuning.com/b-schwaben-parts/schwaben-set-of-4-pinch-weld-protectors/3107838kt/?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAkc28BhB0EiwAM001TZoxCWdujjYcdgQLNRp9XS7NfgoYa376otSx-Eq1DNEhyciStcRdPBoCbCkQAvD_BwE
That’s why I went with group N mounts less NVH too
You may be the only person I've heard say the want to move to California, good luck with $7 gas
lol, thanks for the comment!! It's very sad to hear about the recent devastating fires but yeah, build wealth first, then move.
Dude, great channel. Just found you and have been binging the vids. Real mellow vibe. Question, the RC F Track in Incognito, was it that rare? Only 8 or 9 in that color?? I thought the 2023 Track were all Incognito with a total of 50 made. I can't find literature on it anywhere!
Hey what's up! Thanks Fam! really appreciate the support. I guess I'm pretty laid back lol. I think the 2023 RCF TE is somewhat rare, as far as I know, 2023 and 2024 were built to order rather than allocated. check out this link, of the 35 build max for MY2023, only 10 have been accounted for. There is a small cult following for these cars. www.clublexus.com/forums/rc-f-2015-present/1001237-2023-rc-f-track-edition-registry-3.html
@@j168vlogs Incredible. Thanks for that. I'd love if Lexus provided an actual accounting of numbers made. You can call me #11 then. Your videos are a wealth of information. Learning a lot! This is my first car with carbon ceramics. I read people swapping brakes to preserve the original CCB kit out of fear of the $15k replacement. But I also read they're a forever brake system. Don't know. Any plans to do anything?
@@justanotherthursday2505 Haha, welcome to our small group of Lexus racecar enthusiasts!!! Thanks for the comment. Yeah, I am wondering too how many 2023 and 2024 TE were made, def seems under the max production number of 35 for USA. Imo, for spirited driving, the CCB rotors should last 100K miles. If you track the car, the CCB would be a consumable maintenance expense. I have a few more braces left for the RCF. The chassis for this car is so stiff, I don't think much is needed like my GS350.
@@j168vlogs Thanks for the welcome. I actually picked one up out of love for it, and its been sitting in the garage. I plan on dailying it soon though. There is so little info out there. All I read has said there were 50 a year but it seems that wildly overestimated. 100k? Really? I keep reading so many varying opinions. Some saying it will outlast the lifetime of the car (then again, those mostly aren't Lexus products lol) with just regular driving (nontrack). I have no intentions of tracking this Lexus. Look forward to seeing what else you have in store. Awesome to see. You're the only one with a 23 Incognito Track on the platform that I see. Keep up the awesome work
$12/$13 for that air filter?! What did you go for that?
Hey what's up! Eh, it was actually around 18 bucks a filter which is still an awesome deal. Got a whole bunch around black friday online, free shipping, no tax. Lewis Toyota of Topeka
Bought my 18 GS Caviar/Red in your neck of the woods new from Sterling McCall in Freindswood new. Still loving it with only 15k on the clock and it's sitting stored in the winters here in the rust belt.
Take the plastic covers off. Show them where it’s located at and try to zoom in on the COGs(aiming screw) for illustration. First off you take your car to a brick building or garage and about 10-12 ft(3 meters) back from the building or garage. And do 1-3 full turns depending how much you need to adjust your light beam. They should both be same level. The horizontal COGs are totally different. Up to you to measure on a EMPTY roadway or parking lot. Adjust to your liking but NOT interfering with oncoming traffic. -Clockwise(right turns) on the COG ⚙️ raises the light beam. -Counterclockwise(left turns) on the COG ⚙️ lowers the light beam upwards. Don’t BE THAT DOUCHE that has their light beams pointed way upward BLINDING traffic!!! It’s shouldn’t be higher than 4’ 3” off ground Get a friend and their car after adjusting your lights and park 50ft-100ft back in their car as if you in the oncoming lane. See if the lights blind your road view. You’re welcome. ****You don’t want to be hard on the COG ⚙️ because you can damage them. Or the light housing they sit(attached) on.
Hi did you do the front strut bar?
Hey what's up! GR Corolla has no front strut bar installed. Hoping GR will develop OEM one.
Those new crush washers for oil drain sucks. I have to scrap that blue colored stuff off the bolt and pan before using another. Also for some reason the bolt is always loose even thought I torque them down to spec. I ended up installing a Fumoto valve for the drain and tighten it a bit over spec and marked it just to see if it gets loose on the next change.
Good visual indicator to know the washer is still there. I wouldn't lose sleep over the residue - just me though.
Hey what's up! lol, the fumoto valve is the best, I am looking forward to installing once I get some more miles on the engine. Yeah, I notice that residue as well, plan to clean off next oil change. Thanks for the comment and watching the video!
The exhaust sounds nice and deep. I look forward to see which wheels you pick out for the GS. 😊
What's up B! Great build! Pretty interesting add with the TRD exhaust. Really need to take the GS out like a daily driver!! thanks for the comment and watching the vid!
Where did you get these parts?
Hey what's up! I got these parts from black hawk japan since USD/JPY exchange is really good.
May you please show how you changed the air filter? I thought it would be easy by just unclamping the airbox, but it looks like it requires more man handling and taking apart the air intake to install it.
Hey what's up! There are two ways to replace the filter and that is to unscrew the grommet and remove the entire filter cover+intake pipe or man handle the filter out and in. I tried both and prefer the man handle method to protect the mass air flow sensor harness. The main tip I can give you, when re-installing the airbox lid, is to hook the bottom clips in first by angling in the bottom of the filter housing lid with light force compressing the air filter foam and it will 'click' in place. It is a very snug fit no doubt.
@@j168vlogs I'll try the man handle method when I need to change the filter again, I tried to do the second method by unplugging the mass air flow sensor so I can avoid messing with the harness, but the connector is on so tight I feel like I'll break the connector. I did unscrew the grommet thing that connects the air box and the tube to the engine, but it felt difficult remove the two pipings apart lol
Man you are a awesome guy! GS 350 FTW! It’s not that I don’t absolutely love your other cars. I relate better to the GS because it’s what I always wanted.
Hey Brandon! Thanks! Love what you are doing with your car, looks like your build plan is almost done! I am actually looking at getting 19's for the GS so it can be more driveable lol.
I miss the GS 😩
lol, it'll be back.
Very nice, what was the purchase price on yours? I’ve been watching the market for some time now and have seen some nice discounts but not nice enough for me to pull the trigger yet
Hey what's up! I got it for MSRP which kind of sucked but this was a car I did not want used or shop around for. I saw some new 2024's going at a great price but looks like they sold. If I were to buy a used one, I would only focus on the 2023 and 2024's since they had the final refresh. Of course, I'm biased towards the 2023's lol. Used high end car market is taking a noticeble hit, so you're timing could be very good.
Good video. Major difference between IS500 vs RCF, is in the brakes, bushings/chassis/suspension, cooling systems, seats, wheels, tires and also from what I could tell. transmission programming is definitely different from driving it. The focus of the two cars is very different so the driving experience is very different especially once you over 4/10th or 5/10ths.
Hey what's up! Thanks for your comment! I agree, the IS500 is not a track ready car like the RCF. It's sad given the minimal options we have now in the Japanese market, but super thankful Lexus is keeping the V8 available for us to enjoy. Those prices though....
I heard that the is500 takes the front end chassis from the GSF to accommodate the v8. But the rear is the regular is350 with the addition of the Yamaha performance bar at the rear
@depresso972 No the IS500 chassis is the same as the 3IS IS350.. Only difference is, they elongated the nose by 2 inches to make extra room for pedestrian crash regulations. The engine bay already had enough space. The chassis cost is identical.
@2ZZGE100 interesting I've seen different reports like from savagegeese, I saw that they take the entire front subframe of the GSF so it can handle the v8.
@depresso972 No 3IS all have the same subframe part number. Just the elongated nose is the only difference. I will note this though that the 3IS chassis is a shortened version of the 4GS chassis so the 3IS chassis is already based on the 4GS.
Was the test drive with only the front brace or with both front and rear?
Hey what's up! Front Brace only. Pretty noticeable difference. Thanks for watching!!
THEY DON'T CATCH FIRE ANY MORE THAN ANY OTHER CAR...
Did you do a video showcasing before and after sounds?
Hey what's up! Sorry, I have not found the time to install just yet but it's my next mod after RCF Oil Change. Will keep your suggestion in mind. Thanks for the comment!!
@ do you have a link to where you purchased it? Not finding FGK for my friends Corolla Gr on Google haha
RHDjapan is where I got it from. I got it during Tokyo Auto Salon and there was and extra 10% off coupon I found online!!
I wish I could afford a garage like that.
Hey what's up! I feel you man. I watch channels like Manny Khoshbin and think: "I am inspired to be successful just like him".
Do the smaller diagonal supports come in a pair or did you order 2?
Hey what's up! Came as a pair, only order 1.
I have a squeak noise in my clutch 2020 wrx , I only hear it when releasing the clutch in 1st gear after that 2nd to 6th gear is smooth no chirping noises/grinding/clunking noise ,sometimes it’s squeaks sometimes not it usually squeaks when it’s called 😢 hoping that TOB is not the issue
Hey what's up! The TOB chirping happens when the transmission get too hot not cold so most likely not TOB. There could be an issue with 1st gear or the serpentine belt assembly. You may search the forums for a better answer.
compared to the wrx would you say it’s more similar to it’s handling after the mod?
Hey what's up! Even with the mod upgrades, a stock WRX handles better because of its inherent design as a rally car with awd. Thanks for asking.
Not too many videos on these Yamaha dampers so thanks for the review. With the positives you've mentioned in the vid, l'll definitely look into getting TRD/Yamaha ones for my gen 5 RAV4 sometime in the future. 👍
where did you get this lip from bro?
Hey what’s up! rhdJapan.com, thanks for watching!
I noticed that the VSC pitch stop has only one rubber bushing, where the others typically have 2. I would imagine that means the VSC is one of the stiffest units on the market. That may be useful for anyone specifically tuning to the stiffer end of the spectrum.
I have the same issue on my 06 WRX, chirp chirp chirp, and it's driving me nuts. Is it possible to apply that Multiplex #2 grease on those 3 pivot points on the fork without removing the slave cylinder and only remove the rubber boot for access? I don't want to run into the same issue and strip the bolt as I've read it's a common problem.
Hey what's up! I'm pretty sure you can get all three points without removing the clutch slave cylinder, I would recommend trying that first. I believe the noise comes from the TOB being too dry so the grease point between the fork and slave cylinder should not be the issue.
Thanks for this, loosened the bolts on either end and it managed to fit.
It seems like this is an expensive placebo
Hey what's up! The ride became more comfortable and quieter but at the expense of driver feel. Not a performance upgrade in my opinion and the added comfort was deleted when I added the Tom's bracing. Not an upgrade I would recommend for performance minded drivers. These dampers were only offered on the non F sport GS models for that reason.
@@j168vlogsthey were also offered only in the 10th anniversary GS F which I find odd
@@DahMexico Oh that's interesting. I don't see why you would take away the sporty connection for an F car. Not a good idea imo.
@@j168vlogs unsure honestly however, did you ever run just the TRD rear damper? I know the IS500 & LC500s come with those
@@DahMexico Yes I did! Same car enthusiast problem, lost driver connection to the car.
Hi J168Vlogs, can I ask you at 38sec pic in your Vid. What dodoes that bolt - (90080-11719 x4 Front Brace Bolts), crew into on top of the Bracket Brace? Is that a part that comes with Lexus 51210-30020 Front Brace? Or is that already on a 2013 Lexus GS350? Please help? I have this Bar to install. Thanks.
Hey what's up! If you watch later at around 0:59 I explain that those extra brackets are welded to the front brace for the dampers to bolt onto. Most likely, if your car did not come with a damper installed, you will need to buy 51210-30020. Check out this video link, you can see from the top of your engine bay if your front brace has brackets already present with a flashlight: ua-cam.com/video/m_m-pgGrYnQ/v-deo.htmlsi=ffMSfIzgQmigfIsT&t=14
I have an STi and I get a screech only on cold starts then when it heats up I don’t hear it any more. I wonder if I’m having this issue
Hey what's up! That actually sounds like your serpentine belt and tensioner. TOB will make more noise when hot and disappears when the clutch is disengaged. Sounds like you got a routine maintenance item rather than a TSB. From what I remember, STi transmissions are one of the most bullet proof in the industry. Great car!!! Thanks for your comment.
Did you ever end up installing the fujitsubo exhaust ?
Hey what's up! man sorry, been focusing on the WRX to get it done. Finally finished up and now focusing more on the GRC and RCF. My dailies need some routine maintenance too lol. Wish I could just mess with my cars for a living haha
have you done Low Heartz up two 30hz
Hey what's up! I have no idea but I did play some DJ Billy E bass songs and they sounded great!
@@j168vlogs ah ok I want to add this ones to my car but wasn’t sure I already have the older versions I believe but I’m go check the, out thanks I wish you could off show how or what it looks like under the speaker location space where you took off the old bass from the rear of the car
@@gametechbuilds3755 Hey what's up! Sorry, don't have any video but I have looked up there in the past and it's just a hole lol. I do think removing the oem subwoofer made the bass more boomy in my car. Man, I haven't driven my GS in a while, really miss the subwoofer. Thanks for your comments!!
Was it hard to remove the stock subwoofer?
Hey what's up! I actually sourced out the work for the sub removal. I heard it is not that easy since the screws are below the rear dash and not accessible from the trunk
@ did you find it hard to do?
What size is the screw driver?
Hey what's up! #2 x 8" screwdriver.
@@j168vlogs thank you
Does the battery come in the rear from the factory?
Hey what's up! That is stock location and battery. Thanks for watching!
after watching several of these...starting to realize there is just a tad too much vlog (for me) and not enough of the car(s). lots of camera bouncing when transitioning back and forth and back and forth....
Hey what's up! Yeah, I see what you mean about the camera bouncing around, I'll keep that in mind. I use to put out less vloggy videos but the editing was insanely time consuming so I just go with the flow now. Thanks for the comment!
snip that zip tie flush at 10:33...knuckle cut waiting to happen. 🤕 actually shocked at the amount of the GRC that isn't painted in body color. Even my WRX has a 100% painted radiator support. Curious how much more of the exposed metal (or metal that can see the elements) is unpainted. yes, it has been chem dipped and is primed, but no body color paint. will JDM WRX horns work too?
Hey what's up! thanks for the tip, I like to leave a little extra on the tie in case somehow it loosens a tooth. I am an engineer what can I say. Toyota will save money everywhere they can which is ok for me as long as the car will last haha. The WRX horns may work with the OEM harness but I remember they were a bit pricey a while back.
VSC makes nice pieces (for race cars). That VSC ps mount looks rough for street use. Very direct, very stiff. 15mm of poly away from literally being a solid bar. Does the Perrin ps mount come with different durometer bushings or was that the Cobb ps mount I am thinking about?
Hey what's up! Yeah, definitely the VSC has a lot less urethane than the Perrin for the ps and the VSC transmission mount looks to also lock down the transmission more with a very unique design. Don't drive the car as a daily so I'm ok with track level mods. These pieces look very special. Thanks for watching!
@@j168vlogs... since I daily my wrx, I went the group-n mount direction (ps and trans). added the WL positive shift bushings and upper rear diff inserts. I'm trying to minimize driveline movement w/o making too harsh for daily use. I haven't touched the engine mounts yet...
@@K03sport haha, I had the same exact setup with WL and Group N but I ended up replacing my rear diff carrier bushings to group N as well. It made an incremental improvement for driveline stabilisation and response. ua-cam.com/video/Si6vc4cUkRw/v-deo.htmlsi=A0tSiaXac0orVZZ9
The spare wheel 🛞 is what size because the front tires are smaller
Hey what's up! I can't remember for certain but I believe it is 19x8.5
