The Importance of Play (and Taking a Step Back to Remember How to Do It)
Переглядів 72Рік тому
In this video, I share why I had to take a six-month break from pretty much every activity of my life to remember how to play and find what's truly important to me. I equate it to the final pose of a yoga practice savasana (shuh-VAH-suh-nuh). This is where the quiet stillness of the body and mind gives space for integration and wisdom to occur. I'm slowly adding important elements back in, and ...

    I never knew this about my voice. I myself have never been in theatre, honestly, you do not want to hear me sing. But I found this educational and I will be humming and Y buzzing everyday.

    Thank you very much, 2:30 is good for my psychology/logical brain to have in plan for which words I wanna emphasize. I also recorded myself I sounded kind of boring-guy whenever I put 0% effort to sound 'Musically'/Fluctuating tone, and like u said 0:30 it helps in leadership positions or even at least job interview to sound friendlier, etc. Maybe for some of us it's due to social anxiety or 'shyness' as they call it, so we try to not be heard OR trigger any reactions from others, we're kind of insecure in our verbal skills to handle 'opposition'. That may be another topic, like: 1. we should work on self-love & self-confidence, 2. in combination with changing the pitch of the words. EDIT: 4:14 yes 'Inflection' of the words changes the meaning of the sentence.

    Is not this called intonation?

    • @MelissaHurt
      @MelissaHurt 13 днів тому

      Intonation is part of it, but there are other dynamics we can use like pausing, connecting certain parts of speech to create rhythm, and overall playing with the musicality of speech overall.

    • @MelissaHurt
      @MelissaHurt Рік тому

      You never want to push through pain or discomfort. You may be pushing your voice and not breathing with an easy exhalation. Or you may be tightening your neck muscles. Or your head/neck/shoulder alignment may not be optimal as you explore this skill.. work to release any of these tensions and let me know if that helps! You could also do a deeper dive into breathing and alignment with this voice practice with my online course "Embodied Voice:Feel Dynamic.". If pain continues, *please consider seeing an ear/nose/throat doctor* to take a look at what's happening in case it's not any of the things I mentioned!

    I love your videos! I'm a writer. I have ADHD and imposter syndrome yet I'm highly functional. I'm someone who loves to learn new things to work efficiently. I read many ways to be productive however those methods overwhelmed me after a point. Then I realized that the ways that are mostly preached are for people who work in rigid spaces or jobs. I needed something more fluid and intuitive that works around my genuine self. That's when I bumped into your videos and I couldn't be happier to follow your methods.
