    I’m doing a 4.0 swap on my 89 BII, did you swap the entire dash out from the 92 and use all of the harnesses or did you just use the harness that connects to the computer and goes across to the passenger side? I’m having a lot of trouble with the wiring so any help would be appreciated

    • @risersgarage7004
      @risersgarage7004 20 днів тому

      @CHdollar06 so 89 is a problem year. Late 89's usually had the later model dash that interchanges easily. If it is an early 89 it is best to use the dash wiring from the done vehicle. That's how I have done the several I had done over the years. Hope this helps.

    I’m still working on my 1989 4.0 swap from a 92 Ranger. The BII was assembled 11/89 and all manuals that came with it are 1990. We have swapped several Rangers and BII's with 5.0's and they certainly have their place but I feel the weight and torque are not the best for the frame as far as a drop in goes. @@risersgarage7004 I found a source that claims the whine is caused by air in the fluid that cannot escape due to pump design. The fix is to use a rubber stopper in place of the cap to connect pump reservoir to a vacuum source (they used engine vacuum) to remove the air. I'd probably use a vacuum pump, since I have one. Another source says a pump not purged of air first before startup will whine afterward because it's damaged during initial dry startup.

Only problem with the 4.0 in the Ex sport is blown enginge at about 300,000 miles. I could've gotten more if I would have changed oil like I was suppose to but I never did and it cost me.

    So I’m currently in the middle of my 4.0 swap. I had a 91 explorer donor truck and my bronco is a 90. I’m trying to figure out the wiring. Any pointers ? I have a completely 2.9 harness as well at a complete 91 explorer harness

    • @risersgarage7004
      @risersgarage7004 3 роки тому

      That's great that you have all of that wiring. So since your BII is a 1990 the gauge cluster is compatible with the explorer. This is an easy swap, you will not have as much cutting and soldering as in my video. I learned this in the swaps since my first. Start at the computer on the passenger side and remove all wiring working your way to the bulkhead connector on the driver's side if you are careful you can utilize the entire Explorer headlight and engine harness and it all plugs right in. I have now done 4 conversions like this. If you get stuck hit me up and I will try and clarify.

      @@302fox well that is something I haven't had a problem with yet. The explorers i have used have power windows and locks but none of the Broncos I have built have had those options. I believe that with the proper schematic you could easily power those up by keeping your old harness and splicing in with the new. Keep me informed on what you did so we can share with other folks if they run into this problem.

    Do you know if the 4.0 engine block will fit on the Mitsubishi 5 speed transmission? I would like to do the 4.0 swap eventually. But for now I'm trying to buy a driveshaft for it that will fit but unsure how to go about it I added a 4" lift kit. And ruined the gkn type driveshaft. Need to find a replacement driveshaft that fits with the lift kit. So any help would be greatly appreciated.

    • @risersgarage7004
      @risersgarage7004 3 роки тому

      The engine block is the same as far as the bellhousing is concerned. As far as your drive shaft goes, I have had good success using explorer drive shafts and having them cut and rebalance by our local driveline shop. I usually use a drive shaft from a 2 door Sport, but you may need one from a 4 door to compensate for the 4" lift kit.

      No problem at all man. There is no reason I can think of, the only reason I use cut explorer driveshafts is they are already on the parts trucks and I am a cheap bastard. Empire or any of the driveshaft companies can build you a driveshaft.
