Stitch in Focus: Wrap and Turn
Concurrent with picking up a “no flip” method of knitting, a love of wrap and turns quickly developed. If you’re not turning your work, the “end” can easily happen anywhere along the row! Dubbed “Short Row Swings” because of the back and forth swinging motion, a bit of anticipation and exhilaration appears just like when you swing on the swing and it transitions from forward to backward and back again. In Turning Points, you’ll be crafting beautiful shawls as your stitches swing back and forth and only sometimes hit the actual end of the row. Check out the video below for a right side and wrong side demonstration of the wrap and turn with Stockinette. Watch through to the end for a sneak peek at the 5 designs you can craft with this technique and the Turning Points book!

If you're familiar with the central double decrease (cdd), then the central quadruple decrease (cqd) will be easy to conquer. This decrease kicks the cdd up a notch by decreasing 4 stitches rather than just 2 stitches. A little trick ensures the central stitch stays on top! Give it a try with Peacock Ridge available in Turning Points on the Knit Eco Chic website (coming August 2024).

Two little inside tricks: - Alternate which stitch you bead so you get the little bit of shine and shimmer all the way around the I-cord. - Probably the only time I “bead down” is on a 2-st I-cord when it is the first stitch on the ...

Thanks for commenting :-). It really speeds up the brioche rows! For double knitting I've seen rings being used, I bet that would work here too if you like both strands in 1 finger. Happy brioche knitting :-).

This was so frustrating to watch. Three modifications that might make this video helpful to viewers: 1- show the process at an angle where the action is visible to viewers. It is helpful to see the work rather than hearing someone muttering while jostling the fabric away from the camera. 2- edit out the sniffles. 3- using an artificial light source to make make the grey yarn more visible against the overcast grey winter sky- or choosing a background that contrasts the yarn color.

How about a video that shows the basics? I'd like to know how to tell from the chart I'm looking at how to tell which blocks are the actual cable. I get the intarsia concept in general, but I have trouble using it with a cable chart. Nobody on UA-cam seems to cover this. I'd like more detail in simpler terms.

The lighting needs to be focused on the work, ESPECIALLY when you're knitting in a small gauge in an instruction video. You make no effort to show the viewer where they should be picking up the stitches (bars) along the cast-on edge, and with such poor lighting, it's very difficult for the viewer to see enough stitch definition in your work to know where you are actually picking up the edge. Your intonation and speed are good, but without proper lighting and explanation, all this video does is make me want to search for a different video to watch someone else explain this technique. If you're going to make an instruction video, it needs to be done to facilitate the viewer. Otherwise, why are you doing it? There is nothing in this video that would prompt me to like and subscribe, unfortunately.

    • @knitecochic

Yes, I-cords are an easy knit... mine became so long as it was my go to project when Puddles was sick. Easily tossed aside as needed and less brain power required than when following a complex pattern. If you love the look, I'll let you in on a secret, they have "tool" where you crank or hold a button and it makes the I-cord for you ;-). Thanks for commenting :-).
