Datsun 260Z

My Datsun 260Z has just emerged from an extended 10 year hibernation. Time for a refresh, fitting fender mirrors in place of the old door mirrors and painting them, the front and rear spoilers and the tail light trim from matt black to gloss antracite grey.

@@karimattiya9799 are you after a 130Y?
120Y
I had 1 it took a lot of grief smoked when got it was driven a lot raced round the lanes jumps filled with used oil even had pure grease from a drum chucked in it and still never broke down was jacked up using an old bed base lol
VERY VERY WELL DONE
Thank you.

Oh 😱 My dad hv 1974 Datsun 160j sss (p710) bought around early 80s from his brother. in original Orange color direct from Japan. He's painter , idk ,,,but he paint in solid Apple green ( same as yours 😍) Then install Shelby rim ( same as yours) from his previous 1967 datsun 510 sss ( Sold in late 70s which he bought 2nd) Later in 90s change to Beige. And Sold 😫 I missed that car so much 😫😫 (sad ,,so sad ) got Tow by Council in 1995😫 I open a Public fb group.
Satsuma.
I had one the very same, colour and even a ‘P’ reg. Loved that car, all the extras on other cars all came as standard on a Datsun. How things have changed now - for the worse, in a Datsun your only choice was what engine size you required
Cracking looking car. Shame you never opened the bonnet
Used to own this car , bought new in Cyprus in 1973 and brought back to Uk in 1975 one of the best cars I’ve ever had gave it to my brother in law in the 1990s also one of the most reliable cars I’ve ever owned but bit prone to rust , believe it ended up in Ireland getting fully restored looks very good, hope I age as well as my old car !!
Great to hear from you. Yes I bought it from your brother near Pembroke, Wales. We drove it back to N. Ireland with little/no brakes.
Just sent your link to my sister who remembers it well relayed the story when we picked it up at Marchwood in Southhampton when it was shipped back and started first time amid a lot of owners waiting with raised bonnets for the mobile charger unit got lots of envious looks as we drove away. Looks fantastic after the restoration . Cost 1200 Cyprus pounds new the one I really wanted at the time was a240z but couldn’t quite raise the 1500 pounds for that the selling point for the 180b was the colour always loved the lime green capri in my early driving days. Good to hear from you unfortunately Watkin passed away about 5 years ago he would have been delighted at the way it looks now Regards Chris B
The lime green and off white interior were never available in the UK so that was always a point of interest. I have the original Cyprus log book and service receipts here. I have a 240Z also. Have a look at my other videos. I'm a bit of a Datsun nut!
Did you do a video of the restoration I do remember the wheel arches got quite bad over the years we had it the salty air in Cyprus did affect bodywork even though we had nice sunny climate for its first two years of life .
This is the most amazing example that I have ever seen ! Well done sir !
It is a nice one. There's a bit of a story about how it came to be mine but I'm glad it did.
i cant stop watching this, it makes me cry, remembering my child hood and my parents. <3
Thats incredible. I had a 73 one which was rust held together with holes and stickers
My first car in 1983 was a Datsun 120y in metallic Burgundy, I loved that motor, it was a little gem.
Крутая тачка
My Primary school teacher has a bright yellow one. To me as an 8 year old it just looked so different to the Head master`s Rover
Mudflaps! WOW!!! Original Datsun mudflaps. Haven’t seen those in decades. What a beautiful example, we had a ‘79 T reg Bluebird 180B estate which I grew up in sitting in the back watching the world go forwards in reverse - you know if you’ve been there, but my best mates dad had a 120Y Sunny 4 dr with the Blake’s 7 hubcaps rather than the pie dishes this one has. Hats off to yer fella for keeping this beauty in such an amazing condition. Long may she stay in this state.
Why no test drive video !!
There will be one day. It looks a little different now.
Very beautiful, better than all the modern cars that I own
Any for sale?
Yes
Amazing! Where on earth did you find the panels? (My first car was a 100A FII saloon)
I got most of the panels off Datman (Will Lightburn) but I'm sure they are harder/impossible to get now. The arches are Escort mk2 rally arches.
I have a '77 100A FII 2dr saloon also. Check out my other videos.
Never seen that grill before. Agree that it looks better. I had a R reg (1976??) 100A FII in red as my first car back in 1984. Fitted cloth seats and rev counter out of a scrap yard. Wiring for the rev counter was already in the dash, so it just plugged in.
I did the same back in the day. I fitted the steering wheel out of a coupe also.
@@andrewsmyth8615 Oh, I had a Mountney 4 spoke go-faster steering wheel on mine! Also telephone dial plastic wheel trims and spotlights. I painted the bumpers red cos it was the thing to do in the 80's!
Please sell this I will buy it
My email address is ajsmyth135@googlemail.com
Beautiful, just breathtaking I would love to own a vintage two dr 120y. If you still have it in a couple years and interested in selling I would definitely want to buy it.
I'm ready to accept a sensible offer.
@@andrewsmyth8615 hopefully when I'm ready if you still have it I will make you a sensible offer that would be accepted, I could only hope you still have it. One thing for certain it would be well looked after and appreciated.
I use to have a Datsun SSS in black my girlfriend at the time use to wet herself when I use to open her and put my foot down up on a motorway she was a beast of a car.
Still a great car. Just awesome.
@@andrewsmyth8615 I wish I still had it .
That was my R26 Megane going past at the 5 minute mark. My mate Andy was driving it in the beginners session
Cool. It was my first ever track day. Can't wait to do a few more this year.
@Andrew Smyth I've already booked the first one in February. Can't wait. Hopefully it's dry. The Ariel must be amazing to drive
@@davieheartattack I only had it a couple if weeks before that but yes it's awesome to drive. I wasn't too sure about February 'cos I'm such a novice and thought it might be very busy. We'll see.
sounds great (the exhaust/engine)
Video quality is rubbish but not sure why. The original is excellent quality.
I want something like this , soon as I’ve sold my car I’m gonna be looking .
My dad had a 4 door 180U SSS with slightly different dash and door mounted rear view mirror
The UK never got a 4dr SSS. I've seen SSS's in many markets with the simpler dash without the auxiliary gauges.
Great memories! I leaned to drive in 78 F-10 and owned a 78 B-210....identical A14 engines, both 4 speed, but the front drive F-10 was noticeably faster.
Beautiful Datsun which will run forever as a dry miler. This car saw off British Leyland's unreliable offerings,a workmate had one same colour and year and model as this one in 1985 and though the sills and door bottoms had rusted through it still ticked over like a sewing machine,in general though this model was the best Datsun for longevity, still a few being used as runabouts in the early 2000s.
Thank you.
the star car is the silver one in corner
ua-cam.com/video/S3GLy42kgSo/v-deo.html
It looks newer than in the 70s
Awesome video!!
These were quite a reliable car and economical too. But they weren't as well built as their competitor the Toyota Corolla.
Beautiful! The first car i ever drove. I was around 12 or 13 years old. I remember asking my uncle who owned it if he would sell it to me one day. If all goes well i’ll be buying it from my uncle this summer! Fingers crossed!
That's a great story! The first car I ever drove was my Dad's 1973 Datsun 180B on the beach at Castlerock.
Are you sure it is a 1973 that reg looks like 1974/5
It was 1st registered in Cyprus and then re-registered when it came to the UK.
Bought new in 1973 in Cyprus imported to Uk in 1975
When I was a kid I used to think this was a shark car. Cause of the way the front end looks like a shark face and the gill design at the rear lol
Ah yes I see that!
the best thing is it’s not pretending to be an X1-R
that hiace camper (opening shots) has to be the last of it’s kind 🤔
awesome 😎 I watched an old episode of the Sweeney recently and I saw one in the background with all the other old cars…it looked way ahead of its time…I love automotive design & this is up there 👆
Thank you. This is one of my favourites too. I love its quirkiness.
Le paradis j'adore 🔥🔥🔥✅
I rebuilt one of these in 1988 it was my pride and joy unfortunately an accident wrote it of was gutted nice to c this one so beutyfull restored wish I still had my one
I'm sure you were devastated. The coupes were rare even when new. Now this is the only 120A Coupe left on the road.
for your gearbox change : perhaps new rubber blocs every where ? I do not remember it was so difficult to select the box on my 120 A coupé
My first decent car was this model , except manual, in this colour. I would buy this in a heartbeat.
not available in the uk?? i beg to differ as as a kid, my parents had one, sss exactly the same, just dark green with black interior.
Exactly what I said. Lime green and white interior was never available in the UK.
@@andrewsmyth8615 oh, i thought you meant the car. XD
damn! awesome stuff! you just took me back to my childhood. my parents had the green sss in a dark green with black interior, but all exactly the same style as that one there! thank you for this video. <3
Satsuma amp
My uncle had one he carried a breeze block in the boot as in slippery conditions the back would try to get in front and it held I'd down
Its better than new...
Beautiful example, looks like its in good hands too. How often do use them to keep them in working order just out of interest?
During the winter I don't use them due to the salt on the roads. In summer I use some more than others but maybe 6 times or so.
@@andrewsmyth8615 thanks for the reply, I've recently bought a Datsun 1200 but it lives outside unfortunately, trying to use it once a month to keep everything working but wasn't sure if it'd be ok to sit over the coming winter months.
Are you in the UK?
@@andrewsmyth8615 I am indeed :)
