A very simple solution is to just show those epics on a Jira dashboard. For more elegant solutions we often go to dedicated reporting apps like EazyBI

Use the small tick next to the column name that has the hierarchy indicator. Basically the same one you use to expand/collapse on the issue level, but it's also next to one of the column names (the one that is marker as a root column in the column views configuration)

Jira has many best practices. One of them is: stay away from Team-Managed projects ;) Because they are limited when it comes to functionalities, for one. They are the source of a mess on bigger instances (starts about 50-100 users). Migrate to a Company-Managed project, this is better for the long run.

​@@geniusgecko-project-management Yes, but the company I work with is using Team Managed projects, so it is not up to me to change and migrate whole lot of projects. One thing we all kind want is to have sub-bugs alongside the sub-tasks. Is there any way possible to achive that without migrating to Company Managed projects?

An interesting question. I can see how this also makes sense, but I didn't think about it earlier, which means that for me probably sub-box is more intuitive. It's because I imagine that this will be used to see which sub-boxes of the current box in context the issues belong to. When I think about it like this, it will never be a parent box. I'm not sure if there's a literal that covers both approaches. Maybe simply "Box" :)

Yes, dependencies are the core functionality, so should be there. Maybe you're using wrong Jira links? By default I think advanced roamdmaps use "blocks".

Advanced Roadmaps will pull in sprints automatically if you use the Scrum board as a scope definition.

Hi Edson. The baseline doesn't influence the delayed indicator. The status of the task and the current date does :)

To get that you need: 1. Group tasks by teams (View settings > Group by Teams) 2. Check the "Show capacity on timeline" checkbox 3. Have the source of issues assigned to teams in the configuration of said teams

Hi Dina. We'd have to write it again, as it was deleted with the cleanup of our test instance, so the answer is no. To be honest, even if we had it available at hand, it would probably be a "no" as well. We don't share the "guts" of all the solutions we show on UA-cam for free. I'm sure you know why :)

It's quite easy to find the tasks that individual should be working on at a given time, but to pick the one of the most importance, taking into account what you wrote, is not something that the tool will help you with. It can not interpret how important the dependency is, for example.

I also use the Foxly prioritization add-in and I can go through all my tasks in each project and prioritize them, then use JQL to see a list across projects sorted by priority score, although that does not include project importance nor the sequence. If the task is not yet to be done due to incomplete prior tasks that it depends on, or in other words, the highest priority task across all projects that do not have dependencies on tasks that are not done yet. This list in Jira is mapped into Sunsama for daily/weekly work planning and eventually into a paper Franklin-Covey planner for tactical execution spanning work, personal, etc. LOL :)

The best advice I can give you here is scroll the video to the part that is already interesting for you :) We try to keep it to the minimum, but at the same time give people enough info at the beginning to understand what will be later in the 28 minute long video.

It's a cloud product, so doesn't matter, as cloud products are updated automatically. It's not possible to be stuck on an old version

Yes, exactly this answer we got last year directly from BigPicture vendor support (I'm using BP enterprise with unlimited scenarios) :) I think it is really that MSProject-centric working mode that has become so dominant over the years which makes it hard for users to take one step back and think what is really convenient for a scheduling tool. Also, this is very much top-down classic waterfall planning. Though, I agree with missing features for saving a certain state of the plan within the tool which is very much important to compare to the last agreement (e.g. with customer). One nice feature would be to have a "ghost" overlay that can be visualized, showing a previous baseline. Also preserving a certain state of the box structure (WBS!) is a feature I heavily miss.

It's a solution we recommend sometimes, but it's not perfect. For one, you can't conveniently compare it to the production plan.

No. BigPicture only shows the path for the whole Box.

Connecting those 2 worlds is always a challenge. We usually do it with the help of some Jira Apps, like BigPicture. The most basic question here is: "what can be used as a universal measurement of progress?". If your company can answer this, then you can start cracking. It varies between different organizations we're working with. Some use hours spent, some use closed tickets, some use a more elaborate progress defined by a custom algorythm. All in all it's like in mathematics. You need to compile everything to the same denominator. We do this as part of our services. @@tompabich Of course. I estimate projects in hours and the project is charged based on hours. I want to see progress for each project. I can't correctly see progress by just done task count, because each task has its own time or story points. In the project, one task has to be done in 10 hours and another task in 1 hour, they are not the same weight. So like project has 10 hours and 3 tasks. one task is 2 hr second 3 hr and third 5hr If I finish the third task and move to do it is 50% of the project no like 33%.

This sounds like a typical progress tracking based on hourly estimates (or story points). It's easilly doable in BigPicture with proper column views and aggregation.

@@tompabich Thanks, just all the extensions I used have progress based on tracked time, not on done issues and estimated time. This is a good feature if it has BigPicture
