  • @JGalegria
    @JGalegria 17 днів тому

    But what if where you're going on your tangent is a much more original, exciting place than the precursor paintings? Surely it's better to run with your ideas while they're happening and then after the fact decide which direction you want most to go in. Which is stronger and more expressive or more uniquely you. If you're getting the urge to break away from your foundational series then perhaps that's a sign that the work you were previously doing just wasn't enough. In other words don't sit on a plateau until you've naturally arrived at one. You can't force so-called maturity. A creative life is a journey of discovery and it shouldn't be stifled by the need to emerge an identity as an artist in the art world.

    • @artistspace
      @artistspace 17 днів тому

      @@JGalegria all of this is true and I’m suggesting that if you want to create a cohesive body of similar work, at one point committing to a direction is an important skill, especially for creative people. Work out new directions and ideas in sketchbooks and or studies so you don’t stamp them out. All of this business about working in a series is if you want to engage with the art world

    My normal way of attacking too much texture on old acrylic work is to get out the oribital sander! Alternatively use a single layer or two (if nec) of nothing but cold wax to smooth it out if it's not TOO high relief. Marble dust/calcium carbonate mixed with wax also works. Latter two more for oil and cold wax works. Just thoughts.

    Lovely pretty, soft painting Andrea. I am about to start a 48”x48” cold wax and oil on board for my daughter in laws stairwell. I have never done a board this big and am a little nervous. I have no room to work on it upright like you do. I’ll have to work on it on a large table. But I suppose I can lift it up and prop it against a wall to look at it every now and then. Please mute the music. On some phones/laptops it is louder than the narration. I do not understand (and I am happy to be taught) why people put music onto and above and with a spoken narration. When we read to our children at bedtime we don't put music on. When we're reading out Harry Potter, when we have dinner with friends or have them around do we not allow them to speak unless there's music on? in normal conversation you don't have music as well. It certainly is not common when it's a teaching dynamic. Adding music creates competition of sound. If we go to a concert do we want to turn to the audience and say please talk while we are playing this lovely piece of music?
