Spiritwynd Wood Stone & Bone
Canada
Приєднався 7 гру 2013
Wood crafter by day, Housekeeper by night!
Follow me as I learn how to use a wood lathe! I've only been turning since January of 2021, so I have lots to learn! But I have fallen in love with it, and I know that I'll be doing it for years to come! I hope you join me, to watch my progress!
I have always loved working with wood, be it power carving pendants, learning to chip carve, making Bentwood Rings with stone inlay, or just plain whittling for fun!
I also do Pyrography, that I may incorporate into my woodturning at some point in time.
I also power carve bone pendants, and earings, that are loved by everyone!

Woodturning a Lighthouse

This is a long one, but I had to include all the details! This lighthouse is made from a cherry (black?), piece of firewood! I used my Razertip woodburning tool for the windows, doors and rocks. Hope the lady that's getting it as a gift loves it as much as I did making it! Woodturning a Dreidl
Переглядів 6543 місяці тому
I've been asked many times if I've ever turned a Dreidl, and the answer has always been no, until now! I made these two Dreidls out of a square oak spindle, ( the same ones I make most of my spinning tops from). The game is fairly simple, and the rules can be found by simply googling, "The dreidl game". To make the Dreidl land on its side more, I'd suggest making the body a bit longer than mine...
Woodturning Icicle ornament

This red oak icicle ornament looks like it made from 3 pieces, but it's actually only 1! Burning the lines makes it appear separate! Turning the center extra thin makes it super light while hanging on the tree! WOW that wood just popped when the oil went on.👍
I'm Just adding 1 coat of tung oil before taking the tenon off the bottom.
It make a pretty design! I like it!
really, really bad video !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Would you like to explain your comment? So maybe I could improve from your expertise!
So beautiful Heather. I am so captivated with this transform. Take care. -Mike
Thank you so much Mike!
Gorgeous work
Gorgeous work Beautiful colors Beautiful curved and pathon
Thank you 😊
❤❤❤❤your amazing ❤❤❤❤
Thank you 😌
Very nice!!
Thank you so much 💖
Really pretty, Heather! Love the design!
Thanks! It was a fun project to make.
Well done Heather
Thank you so much, Ruby❤️
Nice work, Heather.
Thanks!
Noce Heather. What ink pens do you use? Thanks for sharing!
They are Ohuhu Art markers. They are alcohol base. The one I have are a 24 pack of colours, double ended.
Thanks for sharing Heather. Have to try that.
Thanks so much! I hope it turns out great for you!
Lovely basket illusion.
Thanks so much Doug 🙏
Beautiful work Heather. You are a great source of inspiration for new things to try!
Thank you so much! I'm so happy to inspire someone!
Just a point of clarification, The laminate you used is Wilson art, which is a countertop laminate not to be used for flooring.
Thank you for the clarification! I realized that after I posted the video! Thanks for watching ❤️
That's superb Heather, the basket illusion is very convincing! Thanks.
Thank you Mark! I really appreciate it!
Sehr schöne Arbeit.
Interesting difference Approach for the same. I have done 4 so far all scrap ! But I was using 3/4 sq stock. My 5th set I lost ? Thank you for showing!
Thank you for watching Daniel! Don't give up! Heather 🇨🇦
Nice live edge bowl, I think you picked the right finish. I think your gouge needs to be a bit sharper as the carbide didn't seem to struggle as much.
Nice one Heather ! Keep 'em coming. Take care. -Mike
Looks cool, Heather!
Very nice! Lovely chunk of wood that you did an excellent job of turning. Well done!
Thanks Doug!
Careful, Heather. Burl wood can be awfully addicting to turn! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻(Even though I prefer just a minimum of bark around my burls, just ask Phil!!!)
Thanks Valerie! This piece of burl kicked the crap out of me, it was so hard! So I'm not sure how addicted I'll get! But it sure is a beautiful grain! Thanks for Watching ❤️
Nice Phil inspired piece. I do think though, based on the color and texture of the bark as well as color and hardness of the wood, that you have a beautiful maple bowl rather than cherry.
Very nice Phil would be proud of you 😊
...love Phil's work...I think he'd be impressed with this bowl...👍 Rock hard wood + slow lathe speed...hmmm...much less than ideal. I've often wondered why someone hasn't come up with an adjustable counter-weight system so that the lathe speed could be increased...something that could be spun onto the spindle behind the chuck...🤔 Anyway...well done, Heather...🥂 Matt
A counter weight would probably have helped a lot!! Maybe you should design something like that! Thanks for watching ❤️ Heather 🇨🇦
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much 💓
Wow, scary in the first five seconds!
Thanks Mark! I was kinda regretting this whole process, until the end. It was a pretty hard piece to turn! Heather 🇨🇦
Beautiful bowl, Heather. I LOVE spalted beech! Happy New Year!
Very nice
Thanks Roger 😊
Beautiful bowl Heather nicely done, Cheers from Will 👍 😊
Thank you, Will!
Gorgeous bowl.
Thank you so much 💓
Nice job Heather 👍
Thanks Dore!
Really nice work Heather. The beech is lovely. The tung oil finish looks to agree with the wood and design well. Excellent!
Thank you Doug 😊
Awesome work
thank you Jay 😊
Love that spalting!! So nice!
Thanks Alan!
Looks nice Heather. Only did tung oil once and it took forever to cure so I might sneak up north and comandeer your sauna (or just use my shop food dehydrator perhaps). Thanks for sharing. Take care. -Mike
Thanks Mike! Food dehydrator should work too!
Ohhh, but please show us the roughing out of the outside of the bowl. Honestly, we could use more of the post-roughing out of any wood turning project. Not to be rude, but the roughing out for me is like pulling teeth. Nice outcome.
I'll try to remember next time Robert 🙄 I just totally forgot about recording it. I need to start making more beaded bowls, so I'll show the roughing out too. Thanks for watching though ❤️
@@spiritwynd Just to be clear, less roughing out the better. Just show us the good stuff. Thanks
Sooo...Just the finished product?🤣🤣
@@spiritwynd Just less showing us of roughing out please. That rates right up there with showing us how to sand. Ugh.
Beautiful bowl, Heather. Great tips too. 😊
Thanks Robert 😊
That's a magnificent job Heather. I'm always a wee bit worried that spalting will go punky after a while - do you think the oil seals it and prevents that? Thanks for sharing and a very happy New Year to you all there and to all your fans.
Thanks Mark! With the dust coming off of this piece I'm sure that the spalting was completely finished, and with the tung oil application, it's completely sealed too. Happy New Year to you and yours ❤️
Nice as always , love the spalting.
Thanks Jim!
Great work
Thank you David
Beautiful piece Heather. Wish Beech was readily available where ilive. It really spalts nicely.
It sure is! They say it spalts even before it starts to die!
Beautiful wood, beautiful bowl. Very nice work Heather! Interesting how the spalding kept to the sides.
It is definitely odd that it was only on the sides. The matching piece that came from the other side of the log was completely spalted. Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture of it before it sold. Thanks for Watching Carsten.
My lathe wobbles so much I should be able to make these without having to reset the wood blank. These look pretty cool.
🤣🤣🤣 maybe you should bolt that lathe down! 😆
Looking good. Nice skew work. 😊
Thank you Sue!
you could put a screw in between the chuck jaws to stop any spin.
I've had a whole pint of green stain that I've had very little use for. Hmm.
