Dirtywave M8 - Desu Ka
Started by recording samples of Japanese dialogue, then imported them into the SP404 where I edited them further to get harmonious pitches along with some time stretching. My partner and I have been watching a lot of anime recently and I've been loving how bouncy and rhythmic the Japanese language is.
Then I came up with a little sketch on the M8 and just used the pads on the 404 to jam with the sample chops. Being able to jam with the pads has been so fun and inspiring. Then I recorded those samples into the M8 where I sequenced and composed everything. I played some ukulele as well. Sampled my Hydrasynth for some synth sounds.
I took all the stems from the M8 into Logic where I did some mastering, made minor edits, and added a few effects in some places to add more depth.

Kingdom Hearts was one of my favorite video games growing up. I decided to record a bunch of dialogue and vocals from the game and try to use them as samples for this track. I almost used every instrument slot on the M8 for this one, and still have a ton of leftover samples I didn't use, so I'm excited to keep exploring them through different songs. I really like this workflow of vocal chopping...

Trying some house-type stuff with this one. Really dig the vocal chops here. Arranged on the M8.

Arranged on the Dirtywave M8. Slight mastering in Logic. Recorded some samples from previous projects I've done and mixed them in. Really like the vibe of this one. Cheesy Fight Club quote included.

Last minute WeeklyBeats composition. Simple, but I really like this one. Mostly arranged on the M8, with some lead coming from the Hydrasynth, mastered in Logic. Maybe if I do another tutorial/walkthrough I'll focus on this song. Just takes a lot of time. In other news I've been getting into 3D printing. I printed this face plate for my M8, really happy with how it turned out! Here's a link to ...

Hip hop type beat on the Dirtywave M8. Got some nice samples from the radio with the OP-1. Had a lot of fun making this beat! This track can be downloaded here: littlelosses.bandcamp.com/track/babbling-corpse Thanks for your support! :)

I haven't tried to make a full song on the OP-1 in a while. But I recently installed the custom firmware and was inspired. I love having the tape tracks on the top of the screen, makes it so much easier to see. I also used a custom filter and the "hidden" Iter synth engine.

Jamming With A New Setup

I recently moved into a new place. It feels good to unpack all my gear and create fresh new setups. For this, I have the Dirtywave M8 going into the Wingie2 to create some textural chords responding to beats, which goes into the Microcosm for more depth and glitchyness. The Keystep is controlling the Microfreak, which is going into the NTS-1 for reverb and delay. Then there's the OP-1, with som...

Made this as part of the bi-weekly jam/challenge for the M8 Discord. The theme was Night vs Day. Under 3 minutes. Optional challenge was no samples, so everything was made with the internal synth engines. Audio was recorded straight from the M8 into OBS screen recorder. The optional challenge of no samples was a good challenge for me, as I love using samples. It was fun to really hone in on dia...

Haha yeah I can get pretty messy and disorganized. I try to stay organized once I get started, but then as the song progresses things start moving around a lot and it can get difficult to keep track of stuff, but it's not a huge deal to me. For this track I started by sampling Japanese dialogue and then imported them into the SP404 where I could chop and do some time stretching. From there I made a little beat on the M8 and jammed on the 404 pads to feel out something I liked. Then I took those samples and moved them over to the M8 where I could sequence them by hand and then progress the whole song from there. I often have no idea what the track is going to end up like and usually just try to maintain interest by switching things up periodically, making sure the transitions feel good. Total amount of time spent on this track was probably a few days, but from absolute start to finish it took a couple weeks. Sometimes you just gotta let ideas marinate for a bit before diving back in.

Late to the party, but I just set up a headless m8 and have been working through some UA-cam tutorials. … and then I found this one. It’s like going from learning basic algebra to calculating black hole physics with a Nobel prize winning mathematician. I have a Polyend tracker which I quite like but now I *get* why everyone prefers the m8 by such a large margin. The automation tricks are so deep I’m not sure the pool has a bottom. Crazy. Well done m8!

The M8 is a truly magical device. And the beta version of the new firmware just dropped recently which has massively expanded this thing's potential. I also started off with the Headless version, but only because I knew I wanted the real thing and wanted to practice as much as I could before it arrived. If you haven't already, definitely hit up the M8 Discord server. The community there is extremely helpful and kind.
