My lightweight lens combo to PHOTOGRAPH ANYTHING!

In this video, I show you what I started with and what my current camera and lens set up is. I explain why it works for me, for photographing pretty much anything from birds to landscapes to plates of food! I like to keep it simple with the right camera and lenses that are quality but not too expensive and MOST important for me, not too bulky and heavy! You know I hate tripods ... until the sun...

Panboola Wetlands: A Birding Hotspot!

Panboola Wetlands near Pambula Village on the Sapphire Coast of NSW is a wonderful (and easy!) place to go birding with over 84 hectares to explore and a wide variety of birds. You never know what will pop up there! I used a 'shooting through' technique in some of the photos to soften the images and give them an additional creative element. No matter what else i'm doing - and birding only happens by accident in my world - i always have a macro lens with me. When all else fails.... Cheers.
That's a great idea! It's nice to diversify as birding can be very frustrating and you do hit those inevitable plateaus....
Fabulous video Sonia and good to hear the Osprey seems to have freed itself of the fishing line. Love the grass tree footage and photos ❤
Thank you Louise! The grass trees were a highlight, such a unique sight seeing hundreds if not thousand of flowers I wished I taken the drone!
I love the relaxing laid back atmosphere of your videos.
Thank you! Birding is relaxing for me so that's good to hear 😊
Great video. Terrific work...especially catching the "pizza theft culprit" on camera. Cheers and happy birding.
Good old seagulls! Always a ruckus combining food and seagulls 😁
Love your video. Creek Street Hat Head is full of bee eater nests all along the creek bank all the way to caravan park easy to photograph even from car window as they fly to and from the nest. They return every year since September. Also Osprey nest on big pine tree near top shop. Boyters lane bird hide and walk can be disappointing but walk up Boyters lane for usual water birds, Brolgas, Black neck storks, Wedge tails eagles. Swamps both side of dirt road. Osprey man made nest on Macleay river just 6 km over the bridge on the corner of Summer island road and Plummers lane SWR. Good spot for Osprey fishing in the river .
Thank you so much for those tips! I'll be sure to check those out on my annual visit next year, I just love the area....
@@flyingparrotphotography I am familiar with HH going there frequently with my photo club friends. There is about 20 nests in few hundred metres of Creek street. In October they were digging. Soon nests will be occupied with female heads sticking out waiting for males to bring food. We sit on folding chairs in shade and have fun taking them in flight catching dragonfly. December/January would be best time. Osprey on Macleay river nest had young just taken first flight this October. Hope next year nest will be active again. Was lucky this year with good images that won image of the month in my club competitions.
worth hanging around those black boys - their flowers should attract lots of different types of honeyeaters. We had them flowering up here in Brissie at Tooheys forest and it attracted the Lewins honeyeaters, Noisy Friar birds, Scarlet honeyeaters, Yellow faced Honeyeaters, White throated honeyeaters, Brown honeyeaters...
It wasn't the best conditions it was hot and windy, I would have liked to have gone back but time time permit ...next time! A wonderful sight to see
@@flyingparrotphotography yeah, time is always an issue. It's been many years since I've been in that area. It's a lovely section to visit.
You found good variety there, loved the sacred kingfisher shots.
Lots of gorgeous birds there 😍
Another great video. Thanks for the update on the Osprey, nothing worse then being left wondering lol. Great photos.
Thanks Judy 🙂
Who doesn't love a tawny frogmouth?, their faces are so expressive, almost human like!
I was so excited to see them, first time I've seen a baby he was ridiculously cute!
Several of those feathers are against Federal Law to possess unless you are a Native American or Canadian First Nation member. By posting on Social Media you have exposed yourself to very heavy fines, attorney fees, and possibly jail time depending on the Judge. I'm very serious. Call your local Department of Natural Resources and they will probably ask you to simply turn them over to them. If they knock on your door everything goes to a much higher level.
I'm in Australia picking up Aussie bird feathers - it's not illegal here (yet).
Cześć. Piękne zdjęcia robisz. Fotografuję ptaki, ale chciałbym poszerzyć swoje zainteresowania i fotografiwac grzyby. Jaki obiektyw polecasz, jaką ogniskową 60,90, 100? Pozdrawiam
Dziękuję. Na początek poleciłbym coś z pewnym zoomem, na przykład 24-100 mm. Do zdjęć ptaków możesz także użyć telekonwertera, jeśli jest on dostępny dla Twojego aparatu.
To dobry, uniwersalny rozmiar obiektywu.
Szukam pomocy w wyborze.
Don’t give up love your videos ! BTW is your lens plate under your camera loose ? Looks a bit wonky 😊
Yes it's a bit skewed. I hardly use it so I'll straighten it up one of these days!
@ 😂
Piss poor..they look pathetic
Give up😮😮😮 no really
Having one of those days where it all seems far too hard...but I'm pushing through! I will NOT give up dammit!
Thanks soooo much for putting this together. I've been thinking of trying this style of photography for some while so your vid was very timely. BTW was at Crescent Head yesterday but alas didn't see the ospreys or brahminy.
You have to walk up the Killick Creek estuary at the right time - usually earlyish morning and late afternoon they can be hunting fish. Let me know how you go with the High Key!
Wow thanks for the process, I will have to try it. Love the Brahminy kite image
It's really easy! You do need the right photo to begin with but it's not that hard to get one you just need flat light and a dull sky background 👍🦜
yes those redback fairy wrens are sweet little bird , what happen to that osprey with the fishing line, that made me sick and sad, years ago l found a pigeon just so intangle in fishing line, it let me pick it up and l took it all off its feet 😁 my husband and l luv watching your passion, and so well presented kim
The Osprey is fine as far as I know. I have my friend up there keeping an eye out, he hasn't seen a bird with the line dangling...which is not 100% as there is at least 2, but I'm hopeful.
Great wrap up of your holiday to Crescent Head 👍👍
thank you Teena!
amazing love ospreys i do
Me too! They have so much tenacity and character
Sonia your presentation is a pure pleasure to watch, so glad l ran into you that day at cresent head, look forward to watching your wonderful work💯
Thanks so much Kim! You gave me a great tip sending up to the water towers, no Regent Bowerbird but I was so happy to find the Red-backed Fairy Wrens there, I'd not seen them in Crescent Head before ❤
Magnificent. I just had the most relaxing thirteen and a half minute holiday. Thanks and Cheers!
Thanks Bruce, it's a favourite place to visit.
I really enjoy your photography and story telling, very skilful 👌
Thank you Ray ☺
Lovely video, Sonia. Looks like an amazing part of the country that I haven’t spent time at. Hopefully the Osprey will be able to free itself from the, always present theat of, fishing line. Looking forward to part two. Cheers, Merv.
It's a top spot, good climate too, quite tropical for me!
Nice bird photos 👍
Thank you 😊
Nice vid... funny seeing you sit there with 'the elephant in the room' on your lap while you rattle on about the other glass. Interesting how people don't get the cost thing with the 150-400.... I still have (and sometimes use) the ZD 90-250 f/2.8 that came out with the original 4/3 system. That thing was 6k US on release in the mid-2000s, which is over 10 in today's money (the ZD 300 f/2.8 from 2004, which i also have, was 8k US in 2003 - 13k in today's money). These are both great lenses, each weighing 3.5kg, and bulletproof, but if you don't need the speed then the 150-400 is a brilliant replacement and a bargain given its quality and portability. Lkd&Subd - all the best from NZ.
😂 I cart that thing around like a baby 😆Love NZ I grew up in Auckland 👍 Still entertain thoughts of moving back
