Flying over the Mountains to land a MILE High on a Short Runway
In today’s episode I’m flying from my home airport Minden-Tahoe (KMEV) to Sierraville Dearwater Field (O79)!
It’s my first time landing the bonanza on a short field of 3,200ft at almost 8,000ft Density Altitude. The weather was beautiful after a recent cold front, and was greeted by many cute cows. This airport is also home to a hotel/hot spring - looking forward to coming back in the winter to enjoy it!

Epic Desert Aerial View: Flying over a Geyser in a Beechcraft Bonanza!
Переглядів 18 тис.21 день тому
Flew my Beechcraft Bonanza (Debonair) around the Northern Nevada Desert. Checked out some fun places to land in the backcountry, spotted a geyser on Pyramid Lake, and overflew Dead Cow Lake - home of the High Sierra Fly In! Not a bad flight for a day in the desert. Hoping to never see a wasp in my airplane again and stay in the seat when turbulence tries to toss me off. Blue Skies and Tailwinds...

Let's practice some performance maneuvers here at my home airport Minden NV! Super important to practice these techniques in a safe environment before performing them for real. Already can't wait to take the Debi to some shorter back country airports and land in the dirt. Hope you all enjoy, and if you're looking for landing techniques in the Debonair/Bonanza, that this may help. Randolph Sungl...

Flying my Beechcraft Debonair down to LA to surprise my friend for her Birthday! The flight was about two and a half hours and it was pretty amazing to have left Tahoe at 5pm and be at the Orange County fair by 8pm. We won a giant Pikachu (who we of course couldn't leave behind) and was able to fit it on the back seats. Thankyou Beech for the large cabin! It was such a nice weekend down in Sout...

I flew my Beechcraft Debonair from the Lake Tahoe, Nevada (KMEV) to San Francisco Bay Area (KRHV) for the weekend! This was my first real trip in Debi, and was so fun to bring along my partner Mark and little sister Kelsey. We had a beautiful arrival into San Jose, stayed the night at her partner's house in Los Gatos, and went to a show up in the city. The next day we packed up and left early t...

    It’s not about checklists or FARs, it’s about common sense and experience. Alcohol and airplanes never mix well. Your job is to mitigate risk and doing that can sometimes be unpopular. The hardest part of a pilot’s job is saying the word “no.”

    You are the pilot in command and responsible for everything that happens on your airplane while you are PIC. Why are you letting your paxs drink on board? Why is a person who is actively consuming alcohol near critical system of YOUR airplane? If you had command presence and if your pax’s respected you, they’d save their drinking for a more prudent time, away from your airplane. Not to mention, when they start complaining that they have to pee because their 20oz White Claw is over flowing their bladders, they will complain and you, captain, will have to be in charge of them relieving themselves, taking away from your primary job of aviating, navigating and communicating. Door opening in flight and people having to urinate have crashed airplanes and killed people. There is nothing more dangerous in the air than a pilot with 1000 hours.

    • @FlywithHayley
      @FlywithHayley 4 дні тому

      This is a pretty baseless comment. Where at any point did I not achieve every checklist and fly my aircraft in a knowledgeable way? There is ALWAYS danger to being a pilot, 1500 hours (by the way) or more. It’s important to remember that. There is no FAR saying pax can’t consume one drink, and pilots drink water near the panel all of the time: in fact it’s necessary. Care must be taken when near the instruments with any beverage. Please evaluate yourself before leaving comments like these that have no other goal than to demean me in any way you can find.

    Hi Hayley! I love the videos, please keep 'em coming:) I love seeing our area from the air. It's kinda cool seeing where we off road and fish from that perspective. Did you get to overfly Burning Man this year? Would you consider flying into the Burn? It's quite the visual, but I've only seen it from the neighboring mountains. If you don't overfly the "festival" just seeing the exodus would be amusing. Until next time . . . be safe!!

      I think the chastisement you’re looking for is “get real”. You are the one who should “get a life” if you need to leave banal non-contextualised criticism. How short is short in BlueSideUp land?

    • @BlueSideUp

      @@MacLockyO.K., get a sense of humor first 🙄

    • @BlueSideUp
      @BlueSideUp 6 днів тому

      @MacLocky the background: In COPA, we used Flysto data of the fleet to determine that the fleet is landing 10 kt fast. Most of the Cirrus fleet is in the US, so the Europeans nag the US comrades that they might have gotten to used to 10,000's of ft runways. In the rest of the world that uses metric, our typical GA runway is less than 1000 m or 3280.84 ft. We start talking about short field maybe around 2000 ft.

    • @FlywithHayley
      @FlywithHayley 5 днів тому

      at high density altitude- terrain everywhere- heavy airplane that isn’t built to land very short- yes I would say it’s not the easiest landing ever 👍🏼

    • @BlueSideUp
      @BlueSideUp 5 днів тому

      @FlywithHayley true. Those are nice. In Europe, look at LOWZ via the GAFOR routes through the valleys in the Alps coming from the North (Munich). Beautiful but challenging for some planes, especially on warm days with no wind. For the SR20, it's more the challenge of climbing out fast enough. Landing is usually not an issue. LOWZ is about 2560 ft long in your currency. You need to scrape some mountain with the wingtips to adhere to the pattern. Today, with MSFS2020 and a VR headset, everyone can experience at least some of that. If you're equipped, have a look. What's your birds approach speed? The SR20 is 75 kt, more like 72 if not at MTOM, at half flaps. Nice Video. Hope/trust you at least have a sense of German humor Hayley 😉

    Beautiful flight, that brings back a lot of memories. Had family that lived in Sierraville. Dad and I use to fly from Bishop (where we lived) to Sierraville quite a few times in a Cessna 152. We left Sierraville one summer day when the thunderbumpers where getting big and we had to fly way east to avoid them on our way back to Bishop and had land in Hawthorne, Nv. Spent 4 hours on the ground to wait them out before flying on down to Bishop and home. The valley was full of smoke from the Bear Fire this morning, you wouldn't have been able to even get close to the valley, well alone spot the airport.
