    Good tips here. I've actually embraced the look (and feel) of the slightly textured surface that a rolled on paint produces myself. It hides fingerprints and smudges, while producing a "softer" look and you really can't tell until you get right up close to it. It is also easier to touchup any chips/scratches down the road. Some may prefer the ultra-smooth look, but not me. Too hard to get right and keep it looking new. (I'm in the middle of painting my cabinets and replacement doors I made myself throughout the entire kitchen as part of a total overhaul.)

      That's great to hear! Some paints are designed to "lay down" or smooth themselves out while drying which helps with getting smoother results. Great job and I am happy to hear that you saved some money and did it yourself. Awesome.

    I'm new to your channel, just watched a couple of videos. Too bad you had to repaint the house. Stuff like that really upsets me when I hear that. I've been doing finish carpentry for about 40 yrs now and sometimes do some interior painting. I saw you have a playlist on doing kitchen cabinets. I'll have to check those out when I have time. You seem like a very conscientious worker and try to quality work. It is so hard these days finding people who do good work. I watched you videos on painting that house in 35 hours and you mentioned your neighbor's house with the 3 painters taking a week because of fixing their mistakes. I wish you were based near me in here in the Midwest, I would give you work and recommend you to others. Also, I thought you gave some really sound advise at 16:43. I too work alone and like to build a relationship with my clients as oppose to just ripping through a job. It's not always about the money. I wish you continual success in your business, you seem like a very nice person.

      @@MoonbootsJ What I do is clean them the best I can, then prime. After primer when you sand the primer you will be able to see if the bonding primer bonds properly or not. If you have a couple areas (usually the edges) where the primer fails after sanding then just sand those areas again really good. If the primer sticks then it sticks. No problem. If you want to re-apply primer to those areas where it didnt hold then you can do that and then I just spray the first coat of finish paint. You have to sand in between all coats of paint. Sanding will let you know if you have a good bond or not.

    Why not use isopropyl alcohol which has the same properties as denatured alchohol which is ethanol with methanol. Denatured alcohol is no longer sold locally in big stores and has to be ordered online, inconvenient.

    • @PinealPaintingLLC
      @PinealPaintingLLC Місяць тому

      That is a great option for people who live in states like California who have banned a lot of things lately. Here in Florida, no problem obtaining Denatured so far. Great idea.

    • @ericastier1646
      @ericastier1646 Місяць тому

      @@PinealPaintingLLC Not just Cali, i don't see it in any big stores online, and thus will not be on the shelves either here in the Carolinas. But yes i would have liked an explanation why is denatured alcohol (ethanol -methanol) better than isopropyl alcohol (so easy to find). My guess is that isopropyl alchohol can be more noxious and irritant to breathe but maybe DNA cleans glue better ? I read an article that you can use grain distilled alcohol higher than 150 proof 75% alcohol by vol (200 proof is 100% pure ethanol) but you have to be careful as the rest is water not good for mdf.

    THe 5 in 1 is the most useless tool i have bought among 40 tools i bought for renovation and painting. It annoys me when i hear people repeating the nonsense that it's a great tool, it's nothing more than a hard plate with a handle that you can use to open paint cans instead of a flat screwdriver. Other than that, it is bad at everything else it pretends to do, scraping. It's not worth buying.

    • @PinealPaintingLLC

      Oh wow, I love mine. I use mine every day. Not sure what I would do without it. It can be a screw driver in a pinch, it can pull nails out, it can hammer on things with the metal end on the handle, close paint cans, its a great straight edge for cleaning up a bad cut line with a rag, It does so many things. That and my razor knife, Always on my belt. :)

      @@PinealPaintingLLC Do you know the saying : "Use the right tool for the job." I suscribe to that, it keeps your serenity and avoids unecessary aggravation from extra work caused by poorly designed multi-tools. You probably remember those junk tools sold long long ago, the sale's pitch was : " And it does this, and this and can even do this, there's almost nothing it cannot do ! ". That is bullsh and it's what this 5-1 tool is. It's BS. I passionately hate people who mislead me into buying one. If you want a screwdriver use one, if you want a hammer, use one, they will work better. As for scraper, it's totally useless. The only reason mine is not in the scrap metal trash is it is good for cleaning paint from 9" or 14" roller covers and second to open paint cans (i haven't tried it to close them) other than that it's useless.

    Thanks for the video. Friends of mine have 25 year old cabinets and all the laminate is starting to peel away from the doors and drawers. We will tackle the project in the spring. Starting off small, then make a major assembly line. ❤

      Great to hear! Make some memories! Sometimes it's worth the work instead of buying all new ones! Good luck, let me know how it goes.

    Are you seeing better results with the Denatured or M-1 deglosser when removing the leftover glue?

    • @PinealPaintingLLC
      @PinealPaintingLLC 5 місяців тому

      I don't scrub that glue, all I do is wipe them down with denature alcohol to make sure the surface is smooth and clean. The primer will bond to that glue. Then I re-sand to find any compromised areas. It works well for me.

    How do you apply your touchups to blend it in with the sprayed finish? Specifically, if it is on the face of a door or drawer?

    • @PinealPaintingLLC
      @PinealPaintingLLC 5 місяців тому

      Hello! Just a light brush feathering or I reroll the whole face with a fine mini roller for consistency.

    Hi, I have some thermofoil that's starting to peel away at the edges, do you know what type of glue is best to stick them back down? Many thanks

      I have seen people try all types of glue, Then they call me to refinish them. So, I am not sure.

    Awesome video. Someone recommended duraplate 289 to me for painting my driveway. Does it hold up well? Also, after seeing your video I am wondering if I should paint my pool deck this color. How does it hold after months/years of pool water hitting it??

    • @PinealPaintingLLC
      @PinealPaintingLLC 5 місяців тому

      Thank you, I stay away from painting driveways. The thing I do know about the product is that it is made specially for pool decks. So, I am not sure this would be right for a hard surface like a driveway. There are much better products for that. Good luck!

    Wonderful tutorial ! Thank you. Does this primer works on both MDF and melamine ? Also, how do you know if you need a second coat of primer ? Again, thank you !

    • @PinealPaintingLLC
      @PinealPaintingLLC 6 місяців тому

      This primer works good on MDF but do a test sample first to make sure it is best for your specific situation. One good coat of primer is usually all it needs. With that said, if you think it needs a second- use your best judgement.
