Ford F-150 - interior fan control fix
Переглядів 8 тис.3 роки тому
If your interior fan has stopped working on one or some of the selections for the fan speed, it’s likely the resistor behind the glove compartment. Give that a try and hopefully it works for you.
Ford F150 fan running - FIXED!!!
Переглядів 203 тис.3 роки тому
My f150 5.0 coolant fans were running non stop on high after I changed water pump and thermostat. Endless attempts at fixing other things, what fixed it was installing a stock thermostat. What caused the issue to begin with was an aftermarket thermostat.

    I never connected that my high fan speed started when I changed the water pump and thermostat. Dont remember if I got an oem but I’m going to try swapping it out. How the heck does a thermostat affect the fan if it’s operating at the same temp??

    • @cinci520
      @cinci520 2 місяці тому

      @@jeffflowers729 I wondered that myself but my guess is even though they’re rated for the same temp there still might be a slight variance and perhaps it’s just a sensitive system. Others in the comments who couldn’t get an oem motorcraft t-stat, opted for a lower temp aftermarket one and it worked for them.

    Maybe I just got lucky but I fixed the problem with a couple of quarts of Prestone Antifreeze coolant. I have a 2013 F-150. Start making the roaring fan noise last Summer. Put the coolant in the rezervoir and the noise stopped. The noise started again last week when it got to be about 90 degrees out. Put a couple of quarts in yesterday and drove about 150 miles with a lot of stops in town. No noise. Give this a try. Maybe you will be lucky too.

    Check your freon level before you do anything. Mine was over charged by the previous owner which was causing the fan to come on constantly. Emptied the freon, filled it with fresh freon to the correct level...no more fan problems.

      If you have switch it out with an aftermarket one, it’s likely the culprit. Either put the old one back in or replace with the motorcraft replacement.

    I just had my radiator replaced , the mechanic also replaced the thermostat with an aftermarket (wanted a Ford part but not in stock) , anyway my fan has been running like crazy now for several days ..... ALSO , in the past they had replaced that thermostat , again an aftermarket , and my engine light came on , code said "Thermostat" , I had them put a Ford Thermostat in back then , engine light went off .... I HOPE it is just a thermostat to solve this fan problem , but I will say this , it appears to me my 2010 F-150 4.6 wants ONLY a Ford OEM Thermostat ...... and frankly I am somewhat thinking "only Ford Parts" from now on .... Maybe NAPA , but these little "common auto parts stores" we see everywhere (you know the names) , I am having doubts about their parts .. I have used NAPA parts on a repair or two , and they seem to be doing fine ..... I'm only moderately mechanical savvy , so take what I say with a grain of salt ...... I do firmly believe "FORD OEM THERMOSTAT ONLY" though , going to replace it soon

      UPDATE ..... Replaced thermostat with Ford OEM part ...... PROBLEM SOLVED , no more fan going crazy running on high all the time , and it's not even summer yet !!!!! FORD OEM THERMOSTAT , problem solved ..... I'm beginning to think these small box auto stores are just selling the cheapest chinese junk they can get their hands on ...... I've had issues with a few of their parts , like brake discs overheating and warping within a month ..... ridiculous to even sell that kind of JUNK

    2013 F150 5.0 L I had the issue of high heat fan setting off- couldn’t figure it out after checking internal gauges on dash, diagnostics reading radiator fluid at 106 Celsius. (Was approx. 12-15 degrees higher than should be) I had just replaced upper hose and y connector. No radiator leaks. This video came in clutch- after watching your video I realized the local tire shop installed after market thermostat. 😮I had a certified mechanic to install Motorcraft(OEM Ford) thermostat. Problem solved. After thorough testing - all good- no more issues with high heat fan. Thank you - what a big help! Houston, Texas

    My 2013 truck just started doing this this last weekend... iThe fans will start running on high right after starting up for the first time in 30F outside temps... If you didn’t change the thermostat prior to this happening, and it’s still the stock one in there, you might have a different issue with possibly coolant level or AC Pressure switch or AC Manifold plugged. But if you’ve recent changed the thermostat then it’s likely your cause. Good luck!

      Yes, but only for a few days, maybe a week. I had to add some coolant after the system had burped itself. How long has yours been doing it? If you start your truck with the air conditioning completely turned off until the truck reaches temperature does it still continue the problem?

    Great video. After talking to my son about this same problem with his truck, he got a Ford thermostat and it seems that fixed his problem. My issue is with an aftermarket thermostat that is not correct for this truck. What's the difference between the aftermarket unit and the Ford unit? It must have something to do with flow and how wide the thermostat opens. I have read where some models have a temp sensor in the radiator and one in the engine. When the temp of the two do not match, the ECM tells the fan to kick on high perhaps because the flow of coolant is somewhat restricted causing a difference between the two sensors. I assume the Ford thermostat must open wider which allows better flow through the system. If this is true, then the after market thermostats are not compatible and should not be sold as such. Yes, the aftermarket unit may fit, but it seems they don't work. Maybe those who have purchased those aftermarket units should ask for a refund. It might only be $20.00, but if you figure in the time and labor, it kinda stinks that "we the public" are buying parts that are not compatible as advertised.

    Thanks for this post I had the same issue. I had replaced the coolant and thermostat in my 2018 5.0 F-150. I live in Florida so run the A/C most of the year. The dealer did not have an OEM thermostst in stock. I ordered one but became inpatiant after a few days so went up to Autozone and got and aftermarket one. My wife and I both noticed the fans were running full blast after I changed the themostat and coolant. After reading your fix I drained the radiator and replaced the themostat with the OEM one that finally came in. Amazingly it solved the problem! I also noticed the truck runs 20 deg F cooler. I am guessing the aftermarket themostat was opening at a higher temp than the OEM. Whatever the fans are definetly running slowewr. Thanks for the information cinci520!!
