    Hey :) i wanted to know your opinion on a snake, I really wanna get a snake I’m 16 my parents won’t allow me to get a snake so if you have any idea about a small snake that I could keep hidden I would really appreciate that thanks :)

      Hiiii☺️ there are some amazing small snakes out there like House snakes, Kenyan sand boas or Rosy boas! I would recommend continuing to educate your parents and get them on board rather than getting one and hiding it from them. Everything comes out eventually and it will be nice to have their help and support if you get a snake ☺️

      They should be fine, they might the vibrations of the sound, especially if you turn the sound up real high. As long as they have periods of quiet or no sound you should be fine! Stress from constant loud sound vibrations would be my worry. But I know people who keep their snakes in common areas and everything is fine (:

    What do you have Atlas's cage on bc I already have one snake but I'm asking for another and I have an enclosure in mind but idk if I can put my snakes cage that I already have on top and also if I'm getting a ball python and I put it in a really big tank will that stress it out with that much room or no

    • @snakeemthusiast
      @snakeemthusiast 2 роки тому

      In this video I built the wood stand to hold Sabors enclosure (black Scale Box) and then Atlas on top of him. Since this I have removed the wood stand and Atlas enclosure sits on top of the Scale box on the floor. What enclosure do you have? And what are you thinking of getting? Ultimately you just need to look at the dimensions of the enclosures and I wouldn’t stack glass in glass, BUT If you can’t stack on top of one another, then you can always buy a metal rack and have them on individual shelves! With your future ball python, I have seen some do well in all glass enclosures but I recommend at least covering the back side of the enclosure if you go that route. Preferably, covering all sides minus the front will reduce stress the most. If the enclosure is really big - adding cork bark, branches, rocks, multiple hides and lots of plants will also really help reduce stress, provides lots of cover while also increasing enrichment. So as long as you provide cover and fill that space, you should be fine, just watch your snake and if they stop eating or have multiple bad sheds then you may have to change something up 😊 If you have any other questions or need me to clarify anything lmk!

      @@snakeemthusiast I appreciate the help at the moment I have a corn snake in a glass Terrarium and possibly for my other enclosure it's called a Mojave reptile habitat lounge and it only has glass in the front but it has like a breathing vent on top but idk if I should put my corn snake on top the cage also has breathing vents on the sides too

    • @snakeemthusiast
      @snakeemthusiast 2 роки тому

      @@niahallen4942 sounds like you can stack them as long as the cage on top doesn’t sit on any type of wire mesh vent top, but if the cages edges line up or you could even put a board of sort between the 2 cages I think it will work fine!

      Hi! During the day I keep the temperature around 85-80F (29-26C), and at night it stays between 80-75F (26-23C)! The highest I would allow the temperature to go would be 87F, I live in Texas so we get some pretty hot days here. You should really aim for 85/86F to be your max temp 😊 if it gets warmer than that just be sure to mist to keep the humidity they need! Lmk if you have other questions (:

    The soil composition looks pretty different from the dart frog setups I'm more familiar with in terms of bioactive, they tend to be chunkier (bark, coco chips, bits of charcoal, etc) for better drainage and less compaction. How is it holding up? Edit: your snek is adorable 💖

    • @snakeemthusiast
      @snakeemthusiast 2 роки тому

      Hi! It’s actually been holding up well! I did have to add some coco chips around the edges to give the soil some more support. The edges were caving in from Sabor slithering in the soil. But I also aerate the soil regularly by poking holes it in so it could be part of the reason the drainage is still decent (: definitely have learned a lot since making this video and I agree, I should of added coco chips to the entire mixture so I wouldn’t of had to poke holes so often but live and learn 😊 other than that plants have been thriving, and the cuc is still going strong 💪🏼 Thank you so much 🥰🥰🤍

    Yes it Isn't the best thing, but for my tegu it works flawlessly. I buy from a hardware store, and they say where its from and such. I don't support reptile brands for reptile products unless its necessary. My point though is that its easier said than done for a lot of people to go out and buy coconut fibers or even other mulches without spending a lot of money (for large quantities). This cypress mulch was the only stuff even remotely safe that was local to me and wasn't too expensive. So people will always resort to stuff like cypress mulch because its better for certain reptiles, and usually the better stuff is expensive to buy for larger reptiles. I buy good substrate (eco earth and coconut fibers) for my boa, and water dragon. But for my tegu I bought cypress because its a lot better than coconut fibers. So yeah it sucks but understand that I see wayyyyy more people buy cypress mulch with anti weed chemicals and such for gardening. When I say that, take in account for how much is needed for gardens or yards. I got just enough for a 4 ft. by 2 ft. at around 6 niches deep. When I landscaped, people ordered lots of black, red and even cypress mulch and for cheap prices per square yd. That should be targeted more than reptile keepers who almost have to buy cypress mulch for certain reptiles because of price or quantity. If its for any other reptile I use coconut or eco earth. Sorry its that way, but yes if you can use other substrate, coconut fibers suck for my tegu.

    • @julianpentedemos4745
      @julianpentedemos4745 3 роки тому

      sorry for sounding like I'm targeting this or what your saying. I noticed that you said some things about gardens and such. I agree 100% on that, there are so many options for that. I guess I just meant that cutting down trees period Isn't good for the habitat and our earth, but honestly there is nothing we can do about that.

    • @snakeemthusiast
      @snakeemthusiast 3 роки тому

      @@julianpentedemos4745 I am not offended nor do I feel attacked by a single thing you said. I applaud you for stating your opinion without attacking - I am all for discussion of these topics and I do see your side. The main purpose of this video was to bring awareness to the situation - not a lot of people know about cypress mulch and the pros and cons that come along with it - so the main thing I wanted to do with this video was to educate. Then, people can make a decision for themselves on what they want to support. I understand that cypress mulch is great for many reasons and for certain reptiles and that’s why people use it. I am not trying to take away from that. Additionally, I agree that I should have targeted this video at more than just reptile keepers, because the gardening community plays a very big role in this like you mentioned. As I mentioned in my description some areas of cypress forest that are over populated are harvested from to promote healthier new growth - this is a sustainable forestry practice. So if a person can buy cypress mulch that was produced sustainability I have no arguments. If not that’s, that’s that persons decision. And as you stated in the 2nd comment, there’s really nothing we can do to stop cutting down trees. But one thing we can do and control is the brands we buy from - I think it’s great the cypress mulch you buy states where it’s from - that brand is more honest than zoomed. Overall, I choose to not use cypress mulch for my snakes because there are other alternatives for them. For your tegu, I respect and understand that it’s not that easy and you must do what you must. All I wanted with this video again was to educate and make people think about what they are buying and who they are buying from. We live in a consumerism world and the vast majority of people have no idea where the products on the shelves come from. With this video I hoped to only get the people who watched it, heads turning on how they can do better or at the very least understand where cypress mulch comes from. Thank you for your comment ~ stay awesome!
