A nice jaunt! Thanks for taking us along. Your hiking partner seemed kind of quiet - would be nice to get his perspective as well! Cheers from Pennsylvania! 🇺🇸
@@Buffenmeyer Cheers. I’m hoping to get some videos with him talking about our trips since he’s newer to backpacking. Thankfully he knows enough to survive a night while the “trip guide” is passed out from too many Buzz Balls 😅 Cheers!
I think you have already stored some good amounts of calories in your body. Hiking is a low intensity exercise, so burning your body fat is a good proposition. You packed way too much food.
@@TheLicewine not sure the wilderness is where I want to test out ketosis. I packed about half to a third of the calories I would burn per day and generally felt good most days. I’m not sure I agree hiking 20 miles a day over mountains counts as low intensity. Cheers!
@topshelfbackpacking7867 I didn't make myself clear. 20 miles over mountains is strenuous, but in terms deriving energy from body fat is normal. There is a common misperception that low body fat is good. Like when you go hiking or getting old, it pays to have a bit more.
@@TheLicewine I have definitely had longer trips where I under packed food and my performance paid the price. I am glad I had the reserves to make up the 3-4k a day calorie deficit but not having years worth of reserve would be nice. Cheers!
@@TheLicewine funny enough I’ve always wanted to do a weekend trip without food just to see how it feels. I’ve just struggled with the logistics just in case I bonk harder than I expect. Cheers!
@topshelfbackpacking7867 I think, we just need to go out and play. There is always a way to get food and water. Where I live, cemeteries are a good source of water. Food is always available. Fun is more difficult to obtain.

@@topshelfbackpacking7867 neither is this channel. Bye.
Curious how you fared after. Too much, too little? I hiked the JMT this last summer. I thought I was totally prepared for a 7 day and later also an 8 day food carry. The rest were 4-5 days. I found that what I packed I could barely eat or didn’t like or it didn’t agree with me. I am an avid backpacker, though had never done a multi-week thru hike with these long carries.
@@kristymoore7052 if farting more would have helped propel me along the trail then I would say too little. Thankfully I’ve had enough meals to know what I like and what I can tolerate on longer trips. That helped keep farts to a minimum. Cheers!
14 pounds? LOL! Nevermind. I just watched till the end.

Why do you pack all those expensive very heavy batteries with you I just pack with me me a small Nomad 7 solar panel i got from Goal Zero and a small battery charger i also got from Goal Zero that i can put rechargeable batteries in and it can plug into the solar panel if a battery go's bad i can easily replace the cheap inexpensive rechargeable batteries it's all cheaper and a lot lighter and it works i can just plug my equipment straight into the solar panel and or the battery pack 🤔
@@bobbyhoward8568 I’ve never packed more than one battery bank. I was able to cover 100 miles with the 20,100 mAh which only cost me $21 and weighs 13ish oz which is much less than a solar panel. It may be worth it for much longer trips but for less than a pound and around $20 it seems hard to beat. Cheers!

Also, not healthy, 242% daily value of cholesterol.
That is true. When eggs are the first ingredient it is likely to be high in cholesterol. Pair that with a soupy texture and this may not be worth bringing on trail. Cheers!

I find that the Sharpie notes tend to easily smear off of the Ziploc bag.
@@andymytys I write how much water and time on the white part and haven’t had that issue but it could just be luck. Cheers!
Could you describe how you cook the meals in more detail? Do you add your boiling water into the quart size ziplock bags while it’s inside your coozie? Or do you dump them into your coozie to rehydrate them? How do you keep it clean?
@@tjc9514 I add the boiling water to the ziplock (needs to be a freezer bag to handle boiling water) and follow the normal water amount and rehydration time listed on the package (I write that info on the ziplock) I use the coozie to keep things warm which aids rehydration. When I’m done eating out of the ziplock it gets sealed and put into a gallon zip lock with all my other trash that way the coozie and my pots stay clean. Hope that helps. Cheers!
@@topshelfbackpacking7867 thanks! That sounds pretty nice! I’m packing a bear can for 6 days and it’s crammed full with a bunch of extra packaging!
@@tjc9514 this will save a lot of space. The coozie is nice but wrapping the water/food filled bag in your puffy or spare shirt can work as well. Cheers!

Totally makes sense to me, those original packages are huge and take up a lot of space. Thanks for sharing such a great idea!
Glad you found it helpful. I hope someday they will start to consider how much packaging they use. Cheers!
Even though it ended up a “fail” it was still a fun watch. Although you guys do kind of remind me of the unpopular actors in a horror film who end up getting eaten by a rabid grizzly. I think I’ll subscribe. 😸
We are for sure getting eaten out there. Thanks for the sub. Cheers!
Can you share the approximate area you were hiking here? We seen your Panther Creek walk. We camp there at the camp ground ever year Thanks
Backpacks are exactly like footwear. You need to find what works for you. I just finished a three day with this pack. I’m 6’ 2”, 200lbs. Including food and my canteen full it was 27lbs. I found it to be extremely comfortable, but that part you mentioned was dangerously close to being an issue if it weren’t for careful adjustments. So it worked fine for me, but I can absolutely see how it won’t be right for everyone.
@@jeromebullard6123 that’s a great comparison. My buddy and I just did an 8 mile overnight. He had 37lbs in his Mystery Ranch Bridger 65 and with a few adjustments found it nice and comfy. Cheers!
You poor man, that looked painful
The things I do for the internet...
I only found this video because I bought GoodNPlenty candies and Reese's Pieces and ate both to try them together and loved it. I can't imagine eating tablespoons of peanut butter with little chunks of black licorice in it, I think the candy shell on each of the candies helps take away from the bland saltiness of the peanut butter by itself. I'd like to know your thoughts on them if you try them together
That could be a combo I could get behind. Thank you for the idea. Cheers!
Nice job🎉🎉🎉
@@j3hikes444 my feet disagree with that statement but thank you. Glad I made it in the time I wanted to and thankfully I was walking mostly normally again in a few days. Cheers!
I got my Neoair topo luxe XL on a Wednesday and used it for the 1st time tat the weekend. It was worth every penny off the £200 I paid for it. I've used a few different mats in my time. But I only had two up until I bought this amazing item. A HI-GEAR Composure LXM 7.5 Single Sleeping Mat and a Trekology UL80 Mat . Both good and hard to beat for the money. But the Neoair topo luxe XL pad is just beyond the next level. So now I own 3 matts and 2 of them I will probably never use again unless I have too.. It is like having a single mattress that packs down to nothing in comparison to many others. My tent is a COSMITTO Backpacking Tent and the Neoair topo luxe XL fills half the tent corner to corner and side to side with no gaps on the 3 sides it touches. You get to relax and sleep instead of hanging on and fighting with pillows and slip sliding around in sleeping bags on uneven surfaces. To a certain degrees the Neoair topo luxe XL pad will level out better into a flat position un uneven surfaces. It did with me this weekend as the prior weekend in the exact same spot I used the Trekology UL80 Mat and I was having to fight the unevenness trying to find the sweet spot. Then having to lay there rigid till i fell asleep. But i still ended up slipping of the mat in my sleep regardless. Not with the Neoair topo luxe XL . I was basically level and able to sleep in a decent sized bed in any position i liked in total comfort. It would be F'ing amazing to get another one and just have the inside of my tent as one big corner to corner mattress. Putting them inside a nice thick double quilt cover I reckon will be the finishing touch and will sleep like a baby in my deluxe wall to wall comfort tent. I always say the C in Camping, stands for Comfort ,Money is to buy comfort. £200 is not cheap. But trust me one night on this mat and you will say " Yes worth every penny "
@@davegreen7853 that’s a great point. I never considered the additional thickness helping level things out. I’m taking my Topo Luxe out again in 2 weeks and am looking forward to a wonderful nights sleep in the backcountry. Cheers!
Mountain house in my opinion has the best freeze dried meals.Peak refuel doesn't rehydrate well and they have rice as a filler in most of the meals
