Canyoning in Italy - Rio Ponte de Muro, Pontebba, Friuli
A very fun canyon to run on departure day if you are heading north-east. As it is east-facing, the morning hours are best for some sun in the canyon. Cold, clear water, some nice rappels and quite a few jumps made this an unexpected highlight at the end of the trip.
Parking: 46°27'42.0"N 13°17'42.8"E just south of the bridge, don't block the driveway of the house!
Ascent: Cross the bridge and follow the road up. Just after the bridge, continue on the small path going straight. Soon after crossing the canyon, you can make your way to the right towards the dam at the top of the canyon. (20 min)
Descent: Short, a good amount of jumps and some smaller rappels. A lot of fun! (1,5 - 2 h)
Exit: Instead of already exiting at the first bridge like we did (oops), just continue to the road bridge and exit there.

The Rio Storto is less well known than the Lumiei, not quite as deep and impressive, but a bit more fun and still very beautiful. The Rio Patoc is a short but lovely canyon that is logistically perfect for the arrival day if you come from the north, or in combination with other nearby canyons. A very open, typical "graben"-canyon in Germany. Quite a long ascent and lots of hiking and downclimbing in the canyon. The highlights of the canyon are the four 20 m rappels, as well as some smaller jumps and slides. Easy but rather nice canyon that is very easy to reach. Lots of little slides and small jumps, most of which were unfortunately very shallow. I don't know if this canyon sometimes washes out, in which case it would be loads of fun! The Pont du Diable canyon sees loads of guided tours. When we were there on a sunday, we had at least 5 groups behind us. The Groin canyon is a very beautiful canyon that is also commercially guided. At the entry point of the canyon there is a small "traffic light" which is either red or green. This canyon comes with a small optional cave section (for which I forgot my lamp). Due to a lack of rain, the first section of the canyon was dry. There are also options to rappel in the cave, if you look around for more bolts. We just downclimbed the dark part, which might be more tricky with flowing water. when I was 6 or 7 my dad and I were going that route without any ropes or security at all. crazy, we climbed the big waterfall without seeing steps or anything, it was all covered by water. such a nice place

Thanks! Depends on the weather of course, but yes it usually is. This was also in june. Definitely a dangerous canyon if the water level is high though, so be careful!

Are those the fit well Aquators? How do you like them ?
Definitely one of the best canyoning shoes out there. Of course it all depends on your foot shape. Between the Adidas, La Sportiva, and Fitwell I didn't notice any difference in grip. The Bestards I felt were a little less grippy. The Adidas are great for slightly wider feet, whereas the Fitwell are rather narrow in the front. The La Sportivas are narrow in the back, wide in the front. If your forefoot is not very wide, the Fitwells are great. Super comfortable, very durable. Little expensive though, but I had them for almost 3 whole seasons, whereas I keep breaking the Adidas ones in a few weeks / months.

Nice....the inverted abseil was particularly cool....gonna try that (but make sure my harness is pulled extra tight!). So wish I did this one when I was there last month :( Lodrino was a blast and Boggera a lot of fun....but we definitely should have squeezed this one in before we left!

Did it yesterday! But the "cave" at the bottom of the rappel was much darker even though the sun was out. What settings are you using in the gopro? Thanks
Might have just been a time of day thing, but the big pool below the rappel simply wasn't very dark when we ran it. As for settings, I sometimes change the ISO values a little but otherwise tend to leave most settings on auto. Hope you enjoyed it!

This canyon can definitely be done commercially, though you will find that most companies don't offer the full tour as it is quite long. Shoot me a message on IG (link on channel) and I can point you in the right direction.

haha probably, yes, it is pretty deep there! But I am nowhere near brave enough to do it from the top, maybe if I were to rappel halfway down, but even then, it's pretty high :) Let me know if you do it though, would want to see the video! :D
