    I'm picking up a 31ft tomorrow and I already grabbed the tongue distribution stabilizer kit. I also recently just replaced the ebrire suspension and steering components with good parts. I will probably have my transmission overhauled with the heavy duty hauler kit as an affordable upgrade before switching to a diesel. This is by far the best video I found about this because it definitely seems like a pretty broad spectrum topic and a lot of opinions. Thanks for the information though, I wish more would put this effort of experience and knowledge in their videos.

    I bought that exact hitch when I bought my F150, based primarily on price. I would not buy another WDH that uses chains. It's very important to torque the bolts to 250 foot pounds. The little crescent wrenches will not do that. You need a larger impact gun, or a 2 foot breaker bar to get it that tight. When weighing your truck ideally you should have the gear and passengers in the truck that you will normally carry. That way you have more accurate weights on the axles. When you go to the CAT scale, weigh it with with the passengers in it, or other gear to approximate the weight. Then park the trailer in a parking spot, not blocking the scale or fuel lanes. Unhook and drop the trailer. Remove the bars but not the hitch. Go back to the scale and select reweigh. It will only cost $4 for the reweigh. Then you can figure how much weight the trailer is adding to your vehicle, and to which axle. When backing with that style of WDH, disconnect the anti-sway bar. Otherwise you might damage the hitch, truck, or trailer.

      Yeah, I've seen my grandparents old photos of their Airstream back in the 60's, pulled it with what looked like a 1950's Mercury Sedan? My dad pulled a 18ft Shasta camper around with a '73 Pontiac Bonneville. However, I'd point out that my grandparent's generation hardly ever drove over 45 mph anyways, a lot of cars accelerated much slower back then and couldn't get out of their own way, so losing control of the trailer wasn't as much of a concern. Not to mention road conditions back then were much worse, most roads going out west in that day & age were narrow 2-laners barely wide enough for oncoming vehicles to pass each other, winding all over which also kept speed down.

    Hi, thank you for sharing your video I really like it. Unfortunately, I have the same problem and I'm about to replace the subflooring on my slide. Can you tell me what thickness you used? • @SSMWRX11

    It's better to add suspension support system(like timbren) or upgrading to heavy-duty suspension to level out your truck and trailer than adding WDH. WDH may level out the sack and from bouncing but puts a lot of stress to your trailer frame and in time your(in general) frame will bend and or fold. This comment is for the general viewers.

    Just because it can be done does not mean it should be done. Many RV dealers & Truck dealers will tell you sure your half ton or suv can tow that. 1st rmbr that the weight of your trailer will be more moving, a 12' 13' high trailer creates a lot of wind drag. 2nd u need the proper brake size to stop your rig, i didnt hear anything about brakes other then trailer brakes to reduce sway which was well put. Also i agree weight distribution hitch and proper loading are far more important than air bags. I towed with an F150 6-7 years but now have an F350 dually diesel. The benefit of a diesel is the engine brake on hills. Also gear down your transmission can help u save your brakes.

    • @AngellFamilyAdventures
      @AngellFamilyAdventures 10 місяців тому

      Completely agree. I have always followed the rule of staying below 80% of your towing capacity. My half ton can handle my camper but it's 7600 lbs fully loaded. I can't imagine towing something that was 12,500 lbs (my trucks rating). A 3/4 ton is in my future. But the half ton will get me by for now with proper care.

      I already owned a half ton, so I'm towing with what I had. I've looked at going to a 3/4 ton in the future, but it will be a while. We went on a 6800 mile trip last summer and the 1/2 ton did well.

The instructions I downloaded say 1/2 inch settled different front to back fender, don't think I can get that with my Silverado 2500HD pickup. I did get 6/8 inch on my first attempt and it drives some much nicer! Do you think my setup is good or should I add more tension to the bars?

    With a tongue weight of, say, 800, shouldn't a properly setup WDH add 400 to each axle?

    • @AngellFamilyAdventures
      @AngellFamilyAdventures Рік тому

      I am by no means an expert on this, but I don't believe it transfers the entire tongue weight, just a portion of it. So to your example, say you have 800 lb tongue weight, the WDH may only transfer 200 lbs. 100 to each axle. Reducing your tongue weight to 600 lbs. I'm just making up numbers for the example but you get what I'm saying. I'll have to do some research on this because you've really made me think and wonder of the exact weight reduction (or percentage) of these hitches.

Can you drive in town and do a 90 turn? Like taking a right at end of the block. They look like they’ll bind up
