10% Battery Degradation 50,000 miles

After 50,000 miles of range, I noticed my Tesla only had 90% of its original range. 15,000 miles later, as of this video, I am at 65,000 miles of range currently with just over 10% battery degradation. This may be normal but according to the data, the battery has seemed to level out at 10% without showing a noticeable decrease in the last 15,000 miles

Lifting does change the suspension. The spacer on top of the strut pushes the whole suspension down in its travel. You’ve lost 2” of down travel. This can definitely impact ride quality but unlikely to be noticed unless you’re using the full range of the suspension.

I would not buy metal parts for the sliding structure. It would be possible to make the sliding part simply on wooden blocks or plywood. But still, thanks for your effort and for sharing this video! I read that Tesla recommends a maximum load on the floor in the trunk of a Tesla Model Y of 130 kg. This is not a very large weight. If there are 2 people with a good weight, I am afraid that these plastic parts that hold the floor in the trunk can break. I do not understand why Tesla did not write that there is a maximum weight limit and did not indicate this on the rear floor boards. I found this information (Max 130 kg) on the Tesla website, but it took some work. I weigh 85 kg and if I sit on the floor in the trunk, the floor boards of the strip bend. I think that in order not to break the floor for peace of mind, it is better to build something similar to what you did in your video.

Funny how you talk about going outside the manual for the hitch. We tow a 3000 lbs trailer with our Honda Crosstour, which is rated for 1500 lbs. Lots of small modifications: Class 3 hitch, brake controller, trans cooler, big brake kit, rear air ride, larger tires rated for the load. I found that the Crosstour and same year CR-V, which has the same rear suspension, were rated for 3500 lbs in foreign markets. It pulls nicer than a full size truck with two axle travel trailer. Just wanted to say good work for not needing to have a truck to pull one of those. I know it's not going to be the norm, but you're having fun figuring it out.

You need to learn about tire dimensions before you make videos bro. The 245 is the tread width. The height of the sidewall is that same number multiplied by the next number, such as 55 or 45. Also, remember that the taller toe will be more comfy but you'll sacrifice tight handling. However, I. Agree that it's better. Especially so I'll stop murdering my uberturbines on curbs. UGH!! LOL. You will not see a big range difference. Whatever it is well be less than 5 miles total range. But it will look unique, and will feel smoother.

It has to be said , EVs suck for towing, and with that set up even if you got 150 miles of range that would still be utterly shitful . For towing there's is no substitute for a an internal combustion engined vehicle. These EV things are just rubbish for towing. It doesn't matter if you have a million horsepower if you have no stamina or range. My last van trip with my 14 year old ICE big family sedan, i did a 5000 k trip in summer often in 40+ celcius temps with the aircon going the whole trip with a close to similar weight( possibly a tad heavier ) old school ugly van with worse aero dynamics sitting on 60 mph with two old fat pensioners and all their gear. And still got more than 3 times the he range of the Y . One of the major failings wi6 EVs is they have no way of unloading the the motors , they have a 9 to 1 reduction ratio , but they have no gearbox . In an ICE vehicle you can drop down a gear or two or 3 while going up a hige incline and just lose a bit of road speed which is also kinder on your gear . You couldn't pay me to buy an EV .

I agree with @dvwatts below. To make the trip less anxious, a more aerodynamic and lighter trailer would make a world of difference without sacrificing too much space. If you're not really living in it do you really need the slide out. I'll be that adds 1000 lbs right there. And less brick shaped :) Also, play around with trailer brake settings, it may be eating up too much of your regen and only turn it up when you really need it like a downhill where you feel like the cars regen can't handle it. I thought you would stop somewhere and plug into a lower volt outlet for a long time to make it to the supercharger but that was a great idea to drop the trailer and go ahead without it, then come back and bring it in after getting enough charge. Also, thanks for doing this. It's exciting to see how this is working in the real world and allowing everyone to learn from it. I don't see your range struggles as a negative but more of a challenge to overcome.

Good video and good mileage information. As far as the tire info not so much. You have 245/50R18 tires. The 245=the width of the tires in mm on the ground. The 50 represents the ratio of the side wall to the tire width in %. So 245*50% tells you the height of the sidewall is 122.5mm tall. The front tires on a 2024 performance model y are 255/35R21 so they are 255mm wide and the side wall is 89.25mm tall. This is why so many people want to change from the 21" wheel/tire combo including me, the sidewall is too skinny and easily curb and/or bend the wheel when you hit a pothole. The tires you put on are 1.3" taller in the sidewall and also the tires sticks out farther than the edge of the wheel so it doesn't get curb rash as easy.

Thanks for the heads up on the lithium ion battery not charging the trailer battery. Do the trailer brakes affect the regen? I talked to a guy who tows with an Ionic 5 and he said his trailer brakes work against the regen and burn through the trailer brakes. My trailer is lighter than yours and does not have trailer brakes. At 55 mph I have gotten 325 to 360 watts per mile or 140 to 160 miles on a charge. Not bragging just don’t want people to think you only get under 100 miles towing. I have heard it is a good idea to tow under the ratings and that’s what I did. Great video and info!

I have a Model 3 dual motor and a Model Y LR, and I've been going through the same thought process which you have gone through here. What I may have missed, but I don't think you mentioned, is the possibility of increased range because 8.5 inch wide tires present less wind resistance than do 9.5 inch wide tires. Skeptics: You know how much attention to wheel aerodynamic qualities--why not the same scrutiny for the width of the tires? That seems even more significant. I have 20-inch OE wheels on my Y. ASAP I am downsizing to either 19s or, more likely, 18s. It looks to me at this point that smaller wheels offer better ride, less unsprung weight, roughly the same revolutions per mile, better snow and off-road capabilities, perhaps cheaper tire replacement, less curbing danger, less pothole damage, slightly more range (because they're more efficient). 21" or even my 20" wheels are for looks only (and that's subjective). Really, it's for the boy racer in you. There might be a slight handling edge to larger wheels, but that, really, is a track day thing only. My Model 3 with 18-inch wheels handles better than my MYLR with 20s . . . and does all the things I just mentioned better than the Y. I'm convinced: Downsize. 19s or 18s. (Yeah, I know, the Model 3 is lower, smaller, etc.) I remember Porsche stating several years ago that anything bigger than 18-inches is a waste.
