Sailing to Catalina on a 14ft Dinghy
This is a little edit of the footage my friends and I took when we sailed my 1981 Vagabond 14 to Avalon, on Catalina Island. We had a hoot and three-quarters getting there . . . except for Conrad-he was seasick the whole time. But it was a grand old adventure. I've since sold Duck A L'orange, and will hopefully get a bigger vessel sometime soon. Thanks fer watchin'

Trick for Screwing in Studs w/ Limited Space
Переглядів 435 років тому
I didn’t cut the nut all the way of course, just a slit most of the way through. The manifold threads were a little tough/rusty and the vice grips wouldn’t grip the unthreaded portion of the stud firmly enough, so this trick worked perfectly.

A short video on how to fix a broken reverse lockout pullrod in a manual Volvo 240. This is on the m46 transmission (overdrive) but the procedure should be mostly the same for an m47 (true 5-speed). Off camera, I put shrink wrap on the flaky parts of the overdrive wires and bent the terminals a tad so they'd hold better. I replaced the pullrod, but I've seen pics on a forum where someone repair...

    I encourage dinghy sailing/cruising in small boats and do many trips a year. Instead of being a buzz kill saying what I would/do do differently for safety/comfort, I'd ask you. If you did this more, what would you do differently?

    Still useful in 2024, thanks! Also, for anyone reading this, you might have some luck driving the pin out with a clamp

  • @iridiumvalkyrie9017
    @iridiumvalkyrie9017 Рік тому

    Is it possible that the pin could be stuck in such a way that the spring wouldn't let the flap close to allow warm air in hence causing a cold start issue? I have brought my car to three shops for a cold start issue and nobody has thought of this as the culprit but I think this might be the problem. I may just hope I haven’t fried the MAF while looking for the answer. One mechanic took it out on a drive and told me to "Rev the engine" to get passed the cold start issue cause then the car ran fine except for poor fuel economy. Ordered the part. I really hope this is my answer.

    You showed everthing except pulling the spring down far enough so that the thermostat drops out & installing the new thermostat. I have put my new thermostat into the refrigerator to reduce the length of the pin. Is there a tool that can help pull the spring down far enough so that the old thermostat drops out easily and the new thermostat is easy to replace.

    Looks like a blast, I’d give you a thumbs up for the adventure but drinking while boating is not the smartest thing to do even if one is the dedicated skipper, if something happens to him people that have been drinking are now taking charge and are responsible. Don’t mean to be a buzzkill but I’ve see the effects. Keep up the adventures but play safe and when you anchor then party.

      @@ethixhiggins5059 I have done it on a VW air box. So I am not sure if I can answer your question assuming it is for Volvo. The spring is tough, but I managed to push it back for VW. I first frozen the thermostat to be able to push the shaft in all the way. Which reduced the travel needed for the spring to take position.
