I make mostly educational videos about maths and calculators.
All of my videos (apart from, perhaps, the videos on Doom) are appropriate for use in the classroom.

What did π say to i? | Maths Jokes Explained 1
In this video, I (over-)explain the mathematical joke that goes:
What did π say to i? Get real. What did i say to π? Be
rational. This involves brief explanations of π, i, sets, the rationals, the reals and the complex numbers. I also explain why i is a hypocrite in this joke.

A Cool Application of Complex Valued Functions to Probability - Probability-Generating Functions
Переглядів 16811 місяців тому
In this video, I go over probability-generating functions using an example of adding together the result of 2 fair 6 sided dice. I then look at a problem, namely trying to find 2 (possibly differently) distributed biased dice whose sum, when both rolled, will be uniformly distributed. I solve this problem using probability-generating functions which includes using complex numbers! More informat...

hey man i know im late but i have a question: When i open the game for the first time it works, but when i quit and try to launch it again, it doesnt work. The screen just turns static. What do i do?
Hi. To fix this, go to the menu, open any other program (such as Run-Matrix), quit that program and then try opening Doom again. That should solve it. You're not late at all; I always try to answer comments on my channel regardless of when they're posted. I actually wrote out a response to this a few hours ago and forgot to press send!
When I do so, my calculator says No Data Press EXIT. How can I fix this?
Hi. Can you be more specific about where this error is occurring?
Bro you are on next level, we can make it advance by able to specify where the refraction point and allowing incident ray from any qudarat and choosing the point on normal line and giving the normal line eq separately , where to refract , if you are free can you make this for me 😅 , and pls remove the labels of refractive medium(names) keep it simple like water, glass, air is enough please , and me thinking that only i was having the urge to mix phy with desmos, as you done a masterpiece i can understand your thinking ability, like me , i admire you
Thank you so much i have my exam tomorrow and i didnt knew how to shift to back and forth between radian and degree mode a big thanks 🙏
You're welcome! Good luck on your exam!
@bongo50_ thank you 🧡
How do I substitute for x ??
Can you explain what you mean a bit more?
@ Choose a value for x: When we substitute, we replace x with a specific value. Suppose we choose x = 2.
@khalid_ps4 just to check that I'm understanding what you're asking, you want to know how to take an expression in terms of x and sub in a value for x?
@ yes
Great. First, you need to assign a value to x. To do this, enter the number you want to substitute, then press the arrow key (directly above AC/ON), then the X,theta,T key (directly below ALPHA), then EXE. Then, enter your expression in terms of x, pressing X,theta,T to get x, and press EXE.
Thanks for the video series... all very interesting, all this tricks you show are really interesting... thanks a lot.

Finally a proper version of Doom running on a calculator. People lumping tech demos that vaguely looks like Doom as if it was the real thing irks me to no end
When I try to connect my calculator to the laptop, the drive of the calculator do not show
Hi. When you plug in your calculator, does the menu shown at 0:38 appear on your calculator? Make sure to press F1 when it does appear.
How can I get it to give me the answers to a quadratic in surd form?
You have to use the polynomial solver in equation mode for this most of the time annoyingly.
This is actually so useful thank you
You're welcome!
Hi how do you get your solutions so they are in fraction form rather htan decimal form
Annoyingly, you can't always do that with this feature. Sorry.

Thanks for making these sorts of videos I got my calculator today for my A-levels and the videos are really helpful!
You're welcome!
Great vid - thanks! One question: can the calculator be setup to always give the magnitude (of the polar form) in approximate value? Or do I have to hit another key each time. In your vid I think it was sqrt(61) I'm referring to.
I don't think this is possible, sorry. It's a bit of a weird omission.
@@bongo50_ Thanks for the info! What about the "S<->D" key? If you hit that, will the sqrt(61) become "7.8102.."? Maybe I could live with that since really, I don't get a lot of exact answers with my work.
@wormdamage oh yes, pressing that will work but you'll have to do it every time. I thought you already knew about this as you mentioned hitting a key each time.
@@bongo50_Guilty as charged! In my original post, I was ready to reject the calculator based on having to hit "S--D", but when I realized that shouldn't be a deal breaker, I figured I'd better confirm that the "S--D" really does work in that situation. Thanks for the videos! You convinced me to buy one of these and so far I love it! This thing responds SO much faster than my Ti-89 that I think (really, hoping) that the double keypresses I'm occasionally getting are my technique and not a fault of the calculator.
Great, I'm glad to help. I also occasionally get the double key presses. It hasn't bothered me too much in my nearly 3 years of using the calculator, but I agree it is annoying.
Good video but would be better if there wasn't glare on your buttons so we could see them properly! Thanks 😎
Thank you! The glare is super annoying, I agree. I've not yet found a good solution to get rid of it. My equipment for filming is very unprofessional which doesn't help
Thanks

I believe that your calculator is set to "linear" mode when it needs to be in "math" mode for this to work. On Run-Matrix, access setup by pressing SHIFT and MENU. Then, press F1 to switch the first option ("Input/Output") to "Math". Let me know if this helps!

You probably need to adjust your v-window. In the graph screen, press SHIFT, then F3, then F1 and then EXIT. Does that work?

is khicas essential for a level? or will the default calculator work fine
Absolutely not. In fact, you can't use Khicas in A level exams as it has features that are explicitly banned. It can be useful for checking in homeworks, particularly in further maths, as long as you put your calculator in exam mode for exams, but you don't need it at all. The default calculator is completely fine.
Thank you dude, I got the calculator. SO far, It's been great but It didn't have one small thing I needed but since I know some python I created a custom calculator script with the small feature I needed. Thank you so much! Also I made my own control scheme which I find very easy to use. Full hands preset but LEFT and RIGHT turn the camera, F5 is interact and F6 is shoot. Thank you so much for the help!
Excellent, I'm glad I've been able to help!
I need a calculator for school, I foun one of these for $65 used, should I get it? I can also get it $85 new. If i should get one should i get new or used?
What level of maths will you be studying? It's possible that this would be overkill and you could get away with a cheaper and less powerful calculator. Moreover, check what calculator your school recommends as that will have the features you need for your class and your teacher(s) may only be familiar with certain models. For example, while this calculator is standard in the UK for A level maths to the point that textbooks include instructions specific to it, the US tends to prefer Texas Instruments calculators. This is a great calculator, but you want to make sure it matches the maths you'll be doing. It's even possible that only certain calculators will be allowed in exams (although this calculator does have multiple exam modes so it shouldn't be an issue). If you decide that this is a good calculator for what you're doing, either of those prices sound good to me. I've found that the buttons start to become mushy and the case loses some of its grip with use so getting the calculator new might be better, if you can afford it. I've also lost all of the rubber feat on my calculator so you'd want to check that the used one still has all of those. Also, if you want to put games like Doom on the calculator, you need a link cable so, if you do get it used, make sure it includes that. Ultimately, it's up to you. Depending on how important maths will be to your studies and your future, it might be worth investing the extra $20 to get a new calculator that may last you longer before becoming too worn down to use. If you only need this calculator for a year or two and then you'll never touch it again, the used one would probably be fine.
@@bongo50_ so far just algebra 2, but I'm gonna try to use it till I graduate in about 3 years. Mainly I'm focusing on computer science as well and I think a calculator could also help. I would go for a Texas instruments calculator but I don't know which would be better
@@bongo50_ There's 2 used ones left and 13 new ones left. I'm most likely going to get a used one because it should be in really good shape, just no original packaging, manuals, or cables. I already have a mini USB cable that I can use. "Working condition and very light wear"
@nicktender Are you interested in writing code for your calculator? If so, the fx-CG50 is probably better than any TI calculator as TIs are harder to unlock to allow unrestricted software development. Otherwise, I think something in the TI-84 Plus series would probably suffice for your course. The TI-84 Plus CE Python is the latest model but, if you don't care about programming with Python on your calculator, the slightly older TI-84 Plus CE would probably be cheaper. The TI-84 Plus series is a bit worse than the fx-CG50 so, if you want a more powerful TI calculator, you'd want something from the TI-Nspire series. The TI-Nspire CX II CAS is the newest and most powerful model but is almost certainly completely overkill unless you're going to be studying maths in college and stuff. Ultimately, unless your school specifically recommends a TI calculator, the fx-CG50 is probably better value for money considering the level of maths you'll be studying, but I might be a bit biased.
I've just seen your second comment. That sounds good, especially if you already have a cable. The manual that comes with the calculator is not very useful anyway and the full one is available online from Casio's website.
Is there anywhere that i can find the oregon trail game for this model of calculator?
I don't think so. I've found one for the TI-84 Plus CE but that's a completely different make and model of calculator.
My screen turned completely white, did i do smthng wrong?
At what point in the process did it turn white? Is it still white? If so, use a pencil to press the reset button on the back of the calculator and see if that helps

I don't think it's possible to directly calculate the rank of a matrix. However, you can reduce matrices to row echelon form. In the "MAT/VCT" menu, press F6 and then F4 (Ref), followed by (e.g.) "Mat A" to get "Ref Mat A", then press EXE. The number of non-zero rows will be the rank of the original matrix.
Thank you sir I’m on image re sizer what width and height should I select on the calc so that I can view it the best?
I'm not sure which values will work best - you may need to test multiple sizes. I've also realised that you should be able to zoom in and out of pictures using the + and - keys. That might be easier than this method.

How are you running an N64 game on a device with 64KB of RAM?
Firstly, this isn't the N64 version of Doom. This is based on the original PC version. The N64 version is a (very popular) port. Secondly, Doom is an old game and does not require powerful hardware. Thirdly, this version of the game is quite cut down. The sound files are all removed, textures are compressed and I only have the first chapter available to play. I'm also skipping every other frame.
whats the max amount of rows and collumns you can put on the cg50?
It is dependent on how much memory you have available on the calculator. I was able to create a 38×38 square matrix, but you could make a bigger one if you deleted other things stored in memory.
How to do recurring decimal?
You can't on this calculator. It's very annoying.
