Hey Vaughn I wanted to ask your opinion on someone in a wheelchair moving to Grand Rapids? I'm intimidated by the snow and ice but also miss the snow and ice before I was in the wheelchair in Co. Anyone living there now in a wheelchair seeing this video have any advice?

It seems like a number of your videos on cities in Michigan, a common con with all of them is the cold weather. I wouldn't consider that a con when that's just a fact of life in Michigan. No one moves to or lives in Michigan and expects it to not be cold in the winter. That's like saying a con in Dallas, TX is the hot weather, everyone already knows that.

Vaughn! Just got back from GR and it was amazing! Walked the city for a day and stopped at all the POI's. Drove down to Kzoo and then over to South Haven for the last weekend they were open on the water. AMAZING! Moving out there in the spring. Thanks for all your help!

whats the internet out there like? is there fiber internet? multi-gig?

My uncle used to say, when you drive an hour leaving Detroit, you're still in Detroit. When you drive an hour leaving GR, you are already in your boat, at your cottage, deep in the woods, or swimming in Lake Michigan. Maybe he exaggerated a bit, but if you're familiar with the two areas, he wasn't far off the mark.

I was born and raised in Traverse City. I now live in KKK town, Kalkaska. Don"t come here, if you're black! I am not being Racist! I'm warning People! It's name says it all. I Hate this town! It sucks! Traverse City us Great! Expensive but Great. Employment sucks though.

Great video and I agree with you on all points except where you talk about the Pure Michigan commercials and say "All of that is right here in the heart of Grand Rapids and the West Michigan area," when in fact the photos shown are from Northern Michigan and Upper Michigan which are several hours from GR.

Yo conocí Holland y me super gusto!!

I used to enjoy grandville but not now. People are rude entitled and just plain mean. It’s congested to make matters worse. A couple of people now almost hit my mom if she hadn’t of moved she most likely would have been hit just in the last week, week and a half and traffic was clear when she entered the parking lot. Most people there seem to firmly believe the world owes them life on a silver platter. I really don’t understand Why they think they are so special . They’re clearly not!!!!!!!!

We are considering moving to Grand Rapids (Spring ish) because it is near our kids in Illinois. They go to uni near Chicago and I saw that there was a train from there to Grand Rapids. Would appreciate your insight on that, please.

Hwy Vaughn . Good video however you understated the population of the Grand Rapids (metro) area by a lot. It's more than 3X to 4X what you stated.

Sure Texas, if you don’t mind average temps of 90-100 w 100% humidity, tarantulas, scorpions, rattlesnakes, n such high high crime, you’ll love it lol.

I visited Rockford with my wife and dog back in July, I heard so many great things about it, and it's being considered as one of the candidate cities/towns for me to move to, the others are nearby Comstock Park and Walker. As you may or may not know I've been a frequent visitor of the Grand Rapids area, because of my job, and I stayed at hotels in Kentwood and Walker so far. I fell in love with the Northern suburbs of GR and Walker, because it has everything I could want, however, Rockford has that small-town charm that really draws me closer to this town. As I was driving through the outskirts of Rockford and into downtown, it was definitely what I expected to find: beautiful houses with a backyard and pleasant scenery, plus the Rockford Brewing Company, (which I didn't go to, but wound up going to Third Nature Brewing instead.) and some good shops my wife liked, and most of the shops are dog-friendly. It is kind of a drive from Grand Rapids, I'd say 15-17 minutes tops, but it's not that bad. As I left, I have a lot of thinking to do about where I will live in the area, and if the town I want to live in is Rockford. We shall see.

As someone who was born and raised here; we're full. Don't move here

Me and my girlfriend moving to GR this weekend I hope everything goes as well I really like GR it’s better than Chicago and we just turned 18

Just booked my trip, staying at the Homewood Suites downtown. Any advice on a place to ask my partner a very important question?

And a 3% income tax whether you live in the city or work in the city. It’s also a Sanctuary County. That is fine. But there never used to be so many murders 5 years ago. They were non existent. The road US 131 between GR to Kalamazoo are two Sanctuary Counties where a lot of the bodies are dumped. Also it used to be safe to bicycle or jog. The. weird murders happen with NO MOTIVE. People have been getting aggressive and violent. I lived outside of GR in a very low crime neighborhood. Woke up one morning and my car was stolen. 2 years later the police found it it Detroit. They didn’t charge the man because he used my car for work. Think about changes that come with Sanctuary Cities and Counties. They mean different things to different people. Usually it is an open invitation for non-citizens who came here illegally. I knew many illegal people in GR. They buy their SSN from attorneys. They were nice people. But Sanctuary also means MS-13 type people are also welcome. Think about what that looks like in 3, 5, 10 or 15 years. Or even tomorrow. It used to be if you had no enemies you were safe. 5 years ago. The murders and crimes happening today in/around GR are totally random and they get away with it. They just celebrated NO murders for the month of July. Grand Rapids itself is not that big so no murders in one month is not something to jump for joy about. The best of the best suburbs and schools are full of drugs. This used to be a place people came to raise a family. Marijuana is legal so your car insurance will be high and mote DUI’s on the road. Kent County was named as having the most DUI’s in the whole state. It is very slippery on bad roads. People take their life in my hands just driving to work. Look at most recent statistics, not statistics and crime from 5 years ago. Taxes are going up on homes in the future because roads are so bad. That is one reason why Michigan loses 2-3% of people per year. High taxes. Bad roads. Illegal drugs. Marijuana is still a federal crime for a reason. Also GR is a heavily medicated city so bad that they find antidepressants in the fish. Ozone and air quality has become a problem. Businesses are still closing. There is still trauma from the longest worst lockdowns in the country. I don’t recommend it unless you MUST live in GR. 3 women run the state. Check out their X sites. Wow! They make Michigan look bad. Too many years of unaccomplished women running things. The men are too nice to take over the government.

3% of your income to the City of Grand Rapids is a lot. This is how they can create multi million dollar projects that are not necessary. Michigan state income tax is in addition to Grand Rapids City income tax. Some cities and “suburbs” around Grand Rapids also have “city income taxes.” So check it out before you move. Grand Rapids is also crowded, has parking issues and heavy fines if you park too long. There are less than 55 days of sunshine per year in Grand Rapids. I have never seen “visitors” in GR until they buried Gerald Ford. GR a long way from everywhere. It takes a long time to find a good job. Way too many useless hospitals. Crime is way up since GRAND Rapids is a Sanctuary County.

I’m moving to Grand Rapids hopefully in the next week and have been driving down frequently from northern Michigan (just moved from Phoenix AZ). I have been looking on Zillow, I would appreciate an inside scoop on neighborhoods near down town!

Yes. Think again. Just don’t do it. Stay anywhere but West Michigan. Go north East of East. No jobs. Unsteady economic area. Young and old people are leaving Michigan due to lock ins. The next Governor Will be worse. It was psychological abuse.
