The most celebrated dance sequence, a courtship dance from the province of Lanao, and now a classic in the company's repertoire. This is the most exotic among Muslim dances that transforms into a fairytale. The bride becomes a princess and the groom a prince. An entire entourage enter criss-crossed bamboo poles that are clapped at syncopated rhythm. An Arabic chant of conversion precedes the da...

Departing from the usual carefree style, the Philippine Performing Arts Company here adopts a more for...

So I just wanna ask a question, I was just wondering what is the story behind this dance?
We look down not because we are humble, but because we are proud 🔥🔥🔥
I will never understand why FilAms say their culture is so close to mines, this looks nothjng like Polynesian culture 🤣
I'm just curious how long was the bamboo poles used in video in inches?
You might be interested in the ppop group called, Alamat. They are incorporating Filipino culture in their music, outfits and choreo. In the music video of their song "Maharani" (great queen), they featured Singkil.
Lupet!! Panalo!! Proud Mindanaoan here!!
for me, this should be the Philippines national dance...
Don't use the term exotic if you carry the term "Philippine". Also, this dance is primarily a royal dance.
So far of searching of videos about this singkil, this is the most outstanding performance of the Philippines. Amazing
One of the best Singkil performances! wow
Wow, 26 years ago! I remember the stress of performing this dance and others in front of Kuya Ramon Obusan at the Smithsonian Folklife festival.
WOW! 🤩 Great job everyone! 👏🎄🌟
Always proud of our PPAC 😊👏🏻🇵🇭
Bravo Bravo Bravo! Worthwhile production, more please The culture of our many Philippine islands is beautiful and rich!
This is Bangsamoro culture NOT Filipino... don't get it twisted kids . Galing sa mga Muslim yan
You do know that prior to colonization, what is now Bangsamoro used to be heavily involved in the trade and cultural exchange with the rest of the archipelago? Bangsamoro culture is probably the best glimpse we have of pre-colonial lowland Filipino culture.
Don't get it twisted din dear.
@@QWERTYUIOP-wu6ht Ah yes, because I specifically stated in my comment it comes from "Muslim culture." You had it all wrong to begin with if you think Bangsamoro = Muslim when it's way more nuanced than that. You want "Muslim Culture," get camel and join a caravan from the Middle East to the Maghreb.
@@dirtpillow5073but u said galing sa muslim? Im so confused
@@KentaKamiki Oh my God. Read my comments again. Singkil is Bangsamoro AND Filipino. Bangsamoro is the closest glimpse we have of pre-colonial lowland Filipino culture. Bangsamoro IS NOT Muslim culture. How all of you people be so dense is beyond me.
More of this please! 🇵🇭💯
Is this part of maranao culture or tausug?
Maranao
Ang ganda po..
Why in our textbook Filipino culture before the Spanish period is not greatly emphasized? It always start with 1521BCE, when Magellan came in the Philippines. There’s more to tell than just the spanish occupation.
exactly !!!
Christianity
What type of textbook are you reading? In my time (I'm from the last batch of the old curriculum before K-12) there's always a chapter emphasized for Pre-colonial Philippines however since it's in the early 2000s which has a hangover of the 70s, 80s, and 90s some of the information are inaccurate.
BECAUSE THE SPANIARDS ERASED PRE-SPANISH CULTURE OF THE PEOPLES OF THESE ISLANDS

Yow the wind 🍃 makes me goosebumps
:D galing nila!
I love this rendition.
I don't know how do the singkil dance 😯
This is not Muslim dance. This dance dates back to the Hindu-Buddhist era before the arrival of Islam.
still part of the Bangsamoro culture so ur right its not Muslim its Bangsamoro culture
@@3idontknow3 Just refer to it as Maranao dance. Singkil is part of the Darangen epic which is way older than the arrival of the first Muslim missionaries.
@@3idontknow3 he's right.. This is came from the filipino version of hindu ramanaya. The maranaw change it when they became muslims
@@alas2210 as a maranao how could you say that this is a Ramayana dance and why all of you religious christians cannot accept islam as the first monotheistic religion in the philippines
@@alas2210 my grandma tell me that singkil dance is about rescuing the princess from the diwata so how can ramayana dance was involved do you know that the Ramayana dance is about the journey of rama
I can't believe this was shoot in Florida! We need more of this! This represents the historical culture of the Philippines!
It was shoot in florida? Not in the philippines? Oh alright
Masiyado akong adik sa singkil dance why kaya ?😅
Beautiful! What is the music you used in this?? 🙌
We had it composed specifically for us.
Beautiful
The beat Rhythm is calling the warrior spirit in me from my ancestors fighting the Colonizers. Good show proud to be Pinoy
YO THE PRODUCTION ON THIS IS FIREEEE.The closeups of the Princess's stomps were SO sick!!!
😂😂
Wow, I love this, the costumes are gorgeous.
Congrats on your wonderful video upload. Great to see this dance memorialized this way. Kudos to all the performers.
