start around @13:50 to get the shock
From the wonderfully tasteless slurs in the horns opening phrase to the bonkers tempo changes (rubato is too kind a word) at the end this is quite remarkable. Certainly exciting. 😆 🤣
Oh-my-god: 11:04 the orchestra totally lost by Stoki's wild rubato 😂
An important stunning performance by stoki in Prague that rocked the city and country. One never to be forgotten.
beautiful❣️ thank you very much ❗️
Was that cut intentional? 41:23 Is this a recording error or did they actually excecute it this way in performance? There were a few measures skipped over.
wow
23:35 - this is what you came here for
Not a performance for everyone due to it's slow-burn approach, but I found this to be a totally absorbing and powerful interpretation - it deserves to be better known.
Best performance of all time!

STREPITOSO GRANDE HERRMANN
Who cannot find happiness in these enchanting waltzes?
Kinda fun. Nonethelss...
One of the weirdest Bruckner performances ever. And I am already used to making allowances fior the Schalk edition (Knappertsbusch, Botstein)...
I hope you have them and can upload them. Also... Schubert Shepherd on the Rocks.... Thanks!!!
Also there should be a taped performance with Marcellus doing the Mozart, Clarinet Concerto, and the Brahms Trio with Casals... Pianist.. Istomin?
Robert Marcellus, Clarinet... John Mack, Oboe... Myron Bloom, French Horn this year.
Very good performance ... Enjoyable...😊.. just my opinion
Who's Fritz Mahler...???😊
Sounds like it was from a film ....😊
Stokowski takes some ghastly liberties with this score. Not sure all of it works.
Thank you for this recording. My father was the solo viola player in that time. I was very young and listened to all the rehearsals. I tried to find this recording for years. Sadly after this recording Jean Martinon died shortly in France. He was a great conductor and very welcome in Den Haag because they lost their former conductor Willem van Otterloo. Thank you again!
Fabulous, informative live recording of the time. This was played just a couple of months after Gershwin’s death.
No one has brought more color to as wide a repertoire with more orchestras. Stokowski stands alone IMHO.
This recording was made in 1959 for the William Barrington-Coupe managed Saga label and one assumes it is genuine Joyce as it also features the distinguished composer/conductor Gilbert Vinter (1909-1969) .
Utterly unaware of this. Even after being brought up on WGBH fm broadcasts from Boston Symphony Hall and Tanglewood. Though I loved Knappertsbusch.
this is an accurate realization of schalk's 'intentions' for this score ... stop lamenting - it is what it is ...
Gracias no conocia al director
I took piano lessons from Sylvia in her home in Ohio for several years before I went to college. I still miss her🙏🏼
A wonderful Interpretation of one of the most pastoral and introspective russian symphonies. Hans schwieger, a german emigre conductor, formed a first rate orchestra in Kansas, nearly forgotten today. A Man who fled the nazis for the Sake of his jewish wife might have felt close to a composer who in old age decided to leave russia because of the soviet oppression.
But it seems that he saved his excessive rendering in this performance. Maybe due to short stay in Japan and ability of the orchestra.
Stoky on drugs. Jeese, pick a tempo and use it for more than a bar.
Wow, I never knew there was a Stokowski Beethoven 4 out there, and it's fantastic! I liked it even more than the Carlos Kleiber!!
Please, contact Pristine Classical for an official publication of these wonderful recordings!!!!!
Do you mean ask Pristine to publish it? If so good idea!
Yes! That is it! @@timothykeenan3743
un mozart profundo, sin estridencias
