tx bluesman coming soon to a bar near you...
Clone shootout - Tweed 5E3 Deluxe vs 18w Plexi {which is better?}
Both amps are hand wired on turret boards... tubes are JJ. both amps have tube rectifiers and are as true as possible to the original component values, layout and architecture, but nothing is "new old stock" both amps were constructed from currently produced components. The Marshall clone has celestion gold alnico, where as in the deluxe a weber signature alnico was used, but both speakers seem very well suited for these amps...

TX bluesman testing 5E3 Deluxe build with Weber alnico 12. 1962 strat 10 gauge strings, hand wound vanzandt pickups, knobs all up 100% plugged straight into the amplifier normal input / Tone knob set around the mid point, volume 3/4 the way up... The amp is a stock 5E3 circuit other than an effects loop with a miniature TC Flashback delay velcro'd inside the cab for some added dimension. The am...
Both sound great and look f*cking awesome!
I don’t know if you’re still around but awesome tone, what I’ve been looking for.
Hi, very nice demo, i prefer the Marshall, more midrangy. And, how do you get the sound at 2:43 please ?
can you please tell me from where you have purchased these kits
What 5E3 clone is this? Is it the original circuit, or have mods been applied?
Neither is better. They are both incredible amps. I own both and sometimes I feel like taking the tweed out and sometimes I feel like taking the Marshall 18 watt out. Both have Celestion G12H30’s in them. Tweed is warmer, Marshall cuts through the mix better. Depends on what tone you’re going for.
I built a 5e3 in Dec and.im building the 1974 now. It's interesting to see this comparison.
I settled on my 5e3 clone with a Jensen P12R witch is the same with the Jensen P12Q as far as I know, but with 25W rating instead of 40W witch i think makes it better suited for home use (lower headroom and faster breakup). The other speaker i've tried is an Celestion Creamback 75W witch was nice too (and way more efficent) but I feel the Alnico Jensen is better suited for the bell like clean tones. Great speaker lineup though.
Because you're not speaking into the mic, I have to adjust volume everytime notes are played.
The Deluxe by far, fuller and clearer sounding, while the Plexi sounded quite awful, very boxy.
What song is played at 2:06? It's gotta be a SRV tune but I can't seem to place it. The Tweed all the way, no contest.
A VERY BAD SOUNDING MARSHALL....
Beautiful tone both. Bluesbreaker is versión TBM (jcm800) o it's 1974x Clapton's Bluesbreaker? I love this video, I see n' hear many times.
Bluesbreaker is a JTM45 in a combo with tremolo, which is different from a 1974 and a 2203/2204 JCM800.
Nice SRV licks 🤙
Both great but the ;Marshall was better to my tastes. Like to hear it cranked
Nothing like a good Strat into a Marshall.
The Weber speakers are the shit. I’ve been using them for over 15 years. Sounds good! Wish they were mic’ed up
This also really displays how different speakers have an effect on overall tone!
They both sound great. I prefer the udea of clones with modern components!
Im think to buy a Mojotone clone of Bluesbreaker 18 watts, n' after a Tweed deluxe 5e3.
Can you imagine a Tweed Pro against those two?
Yep the Deluxe with reverb and the Marshall should have a lot more volume and either P90s or buckers.
The Marshall lacks presence. Fender...for the win.
Who made this tweed deluxe
sorry for the late response, I created this 59 bassman account and forgot the password, but to answer your question I built both of these amps...
Tweed for sure!
Ooh both sound awesome, I have a a 18watter combo similar. Think I need a 5e3 to go with now 👌
Marshall
You need to raise the volume on the Marshall.I own both and the Marshall is a totally different beast ..
Videos like this really make me wanna go practice to escape my guitar mediocrity. Very nice video and playing.
I have the same Weber speaker in my 5e3 except the cone is ribbed to tighten the bass up. It is crazy how sensitive that speaker is(5e3 is only 12watts). It doesn't like my Strat like yours does. Would like to hear a vintage spec les Paul through these amps. That's where the fender really shines, and I'm guessing the Marshall would add well.
Mmm! Damn!
The marshall was dying to be dimed and fed some humbuckers
Both are equally great. How the hell does a person give this a thumbs down?
Maybe the thumbs downer was 16 years old and hoping for more distortion... Definitely some sweet tones in this video.
That tweed rocks my world
5E3 has that bell chime. Was the Marshall even plugged in?
Slugg0matic lol
They both sound good but the 5e3 sounds much better. I like the Marshall cathode follower but the tweed breaks up prettiest
Dude your Guitar is tuned to E flat
Can a Tweed Deluxe play nicely in a rock setting with a drummer? Man, that thing sounds nice!
Ask Neil Young.
this is that same tweed deluxe in a bar setting... ua-cam.com/video/Z4-TMOi2rgw/v-deo.html
I have both, both are great but totally different. Here's your school example of the difference between a british and an american sound. The 18w has a lot more clean headroom and a rather "chimey" sound (a bit like a vox)The 5e3 has the best dirty sound in the world(imo) and I use it most in "roots music" breaking point gain situations and works best with low output guitars. The 18w takes humbuckers better (cleaner and brighter).
Marshall sounds thin and hollow, fender kills it!
sounds awesome man. Looks like we have very similar clones. Mine is made by Marsh Amps. ua-cam.com/video/mdx8ljdsak8/v-deo.html I've also got the Weber Alnico.
Very cool video. The tweed destroyed the Plexi. I just picked up a Marsh Tweed Deluxe with a Weber Alnico and it's one of the best amps I've ever owned by a long shot.
What were the settings on each amp? Seems like they were dialed for different levels of volume/gain. I'd love to hear a comparison with the Marshall opened up a bit more to match the Fender ... and without the echo!
Yep you need to wind up the marshall a bid to show what it really does
Tweed is my choice.
I think both amps sound good, but you're not getting the range of each amp. They are also different designs. I build amps and have one of each of these hand built with good components. The marshall 18 watt is a tighter sounding amp than the deluxe, which compresses quickly. This due to the different circuit designs. The 18 is a more punchy sound, but the more saggy nature of tweed makes it sustain a little more quickly. If you get the Marshall to 7-10 then you get a nice crunchy distortion. If you turn the deluxe to 12 it gives out. It's the nature of it. The trick on the deluxe is interaction of the volume controls. You have to fiddle with it but it will give nice results. The deluxe is really a plug and play amp and not a great pedal platform. The Marshall does that better, but is also great with just a cable. So I don't think one is really better. They both are great, and even more fun if both are used at the same time.
There is no comparing these 2 amps with just a single coil Strat. The marshall design is layed out for humbuckers...not for single coils. The fender amp design is tailored for Strats.
Agree . I love fender amps. I love Marshall amps. When you put a himbucking les Paul into the Marshall it comes alive. It's like it was meant to be together. Kind of like a tele through a deluxe
5E3 the best
Usually fender smooth, marshall for balls. always has been prob always will be. Both would have been better making their old stuff.
The Fender sounds awesome but the Marshall, at roughly equivalent volume, is not going into breakup like its supposed to do to sound like a Marshall. So, yeah, everyone is going to pick the Fender.
Seems like the Marshall is cleaner? They compliment each other well
Jacob Fuller I have both and the Marshall 18wt has way more headroom ...
Neither amp has or needs reverb, or whatever other stomp box you stuck in front of them. Useless comparison
thank you
