    Great job man! I'm amazed that you got that replacement seat cover on that tight. I have the same ski in the same year and I'm working on it now. What did you do to the front plastic hatch cover to get it that shiny again?

    • @akgearhead
      @akgearhead 16 днів тому

      For the seat cover, just make sure to keep everything pulled tight and really work all the wrinkles out toward the edges and then staple it tight. You could also use a heat gun to make it easier to form and work with. I did not use a heat gun when I did mine though, so I don’t think it’s 100% necessary. For the plastic hatch cover, I just took a cutting compound, buffed it with that, then polished it, and finally waxed it. It looks better on the video than it does in person I will say that 😂

    Did you use spray adhesive when putting on the seat covers?

    • @akgearhead

      No. You definitely could, and it would probably make things easier. I personally try to avoid it so that in the event it gets changed again, it doesn’t rip chunks out of the foam

      Is yours a 95 as well? From what I understand, it’s the only year where they had one inlet to feed both pumps. Currently that’s my biggest issue is trying to figure out the cavitation problems it’s having. Well that, and some questionable wiring 🤦🏻‍♂️

    I know the yamaha/honda outboard jets I delt with had a liner/impeller combo. For those we had top/bottom shims to reshim/ restack as the impeller wore into the liner. Is it the same with this style? I saw a thick bottom washer, which might be the shim. Awesom video. Keep them coming!

    • @akgearhead
      @akgearhead 2 місяці тому

      No shims on these ones. The large washer just sandwiches that destroyed pancake bearing against the pump housing. Probably a little different setup than an outboard jet. Can’t say I’ve ever worked on one of those.

      It absolutely is, and I think it gets a bad rap just from people that don’t know how to properly shift. Only time I had issues was during high RPM drag racing. I would get terrible lockout usually going into third, and the MGW has completely gotten rid of that issue.

    • @akgearhead
      @akgearhead 2 місяці тому

      Haven’t dug into it extensively yet. That’s the plan for today. I’ll probably swap the starter over from the known good motor. The shafts both have a ton of grass and debris wrapped up in them, so hopefully it’s just jammed up. I had that happen on my Polaris Jetski. Hoping it’s a simple fix and not internal engine failure, but it is what it is.

    how do you remove the auto-cock? like how are the fuel lines re routed?

    • @akgearhead
      @akgearhead 3 місяці тому

      In the factory form, it just runs in line from your fuel filter to your fuel pump, and then has a pulse line that goes to the crankcase. You just cap that opening on the crank case, remove the auto cock, and run a new long piece of fuel line from the fuel filter to the fuel pump, replacing the short piece that was originally on either side of the auto cock.

If that back cylinder is lower than the other 2, I wouldn’t necessarily walk away, but just know that you will probably be having to do a piston and cylinder. I have had this thing on the water twice now, and I can tell you it absolutely rips. Super fun and agile ski. Far better for doing tricks than my larger wave runners. If you do buy it, I would immediately do the triple outlet fuel pump if I were you. Very cheap mod, and will more than likely save your engine. Also, delete the autocock if it still has it. I believe Polaris had a TSB for this years ago so it may already be gone, but if not, get rid of it. Aside from that, $600 is a good deal for it if the compression is good!

    Do yourself a favor and drop in a live axle set up on the rear, that hydro tranny will not work if flipped upside down and once you pulley swap a hydro tranny it will not last long and will burn up do to excessive heat build up. As far as the front end goes do away with the stock (neck breaking) steering set up and build one from square tubing and weld on spindle hangers and use go kart style steering set up using tie rods, spindles, pitman arms. This will caust extra yes but you will thank me later when you're not in a ditch cause the stock stamped steering gears strip out or spindle brakes around the cast front beam.
