Substance Painter for 3D printing!? Tutorial
Переглядів 1,8 тис.2 роки тому
In this video tutorial I go through my steps in adding some nice detail in Substance Painter and then take this back into Zbrush for further detailing/tweaks before sending this off to 3D print. Tutorial is intended for beginners so I tried to be thorough with the steps. Happy to answer questions or explain anything if it gets bit confusing. Sorry my mic died near the end.. I will get a new mic...
Texturing with Wacom Mobilestudio Pro / Substance Painter (x10 Speed)
Переглядів 4452 роки тому
Fairly quick texturing pass. Didn't record the video until the final result.. I was too sleepy to finish it then. Only did a few tweaks for the final look. In the next video I want to explain how I can take these new details back into Zbrush to prepare for 3D printing. Let me know if you would like that soon. Video speed is x10 so hopefully it's not too boring and still interesting to watch. Te...

Taking a break from the usual work I do day and night. I might 3D print this one to add to my mask collection. Video speed is x2 so hopefully it's not too boring and still interesting to watch. Nice one!
Thanks dude!!
Ive never heard of marmoset toolbag, but now i need to find it. Holy crap, that price is really good!
how y how you make the hand to simulated the contact the skin that way ??
I got mine for 480 this year. It's not portable but it's not like a real tank. Heavy, but screen is par none. This is a real studio in your jacket
Hey! I was wondering if you could tell me how feel about using the mobile studio pro? Does it take care of all your needs as far as digital art is conered?
Hey! Sorry late reply. Yeah it was good! Not as quiet or cool like an Ipad Pro. Used it daily for work till work upgraded me to a Cintiq. Didn't really use it anywhere else. Its been mostly used in my homeoffice plugged into a PC as Cintiq.
it's good to see that this program is unchanging as ever
Is this the 16 inch?
Thank you for detailing this out. I have one question...I'm trying to apply displacement on an imported model that I did not sculpt and it has a triangulated low poly count. The displacement texture looks great at the low poly count, but when i subdivide the mesh to be ready to capture the details, the texture starts to warp and distort. I noticed that did not happen on your model. How do I work around this?
Sorry late reply.. make sure you subdivide with smooth UVs turned off.
Nice one mate. Have tried to see if it can handle redshift in Maya or even something like blender using the GPU?
Thanks a lot for sharing. Sometimes I think about getting one but I am afraid it getting hot under the palm. How is yours, temperature wise ?
And it appears you have some kind of steel nib, interesting !
That's very cool!
You are using a metal nib? Never heard of that. Did you make it or buy it? Why use it? Which MSP are you using? Do you recommend this as a new purchase in 2022? I'm expecting I'll buy one.. and then they will finally come out with a new version. Happened to me with the cintiq companion 2. Right after buying, the MSP first gen dropped. Still using the CC2, finally need to upgrade for a new windows based mobile drawing solution.
bought the metal nib from aliexpress. MSP is latest one but its quite old now.. think wait for the next one to come out and when the fix fan noise.. best to try it before buying.
You are a lifesaver man. I was looking for answers with this workflow intended for 3d printing.
in this section 29:28 when i try to make texture map, all the buttons are greyed out and when i turn on the texture ON button it prompts me to make a UV map first. what to do with this one?
@@einharjar Have you exported the updated mesh from Substance Painter? This should have UVs you need with the displacement map. You will need to reimport this mesh into Zbrush.. Sorry if that wasn't clear. Thanks!
Nice!
Thanks!
So would you be able to do a full body person with reasonable detail on the studio pro by itself or would that be to much unless it’s connected to another more powerful computer?
Yeah I think it would be able to do a full figure. It only really slows down if you have way too many subtools.. Usually can slow down even powerful PC if you have too many subtools.
@@davidness subtools are objects/ primitives corrrect?
that's great stuff, will you do any gaming pipeline video tutorials in the future? thanks
Hey Niyaz! Thanks man!! Yeah I think I can do some in the future that could help within game pipeline. Anything particular you're interested in?
@@davidness hi David, thank you for your quick response. I wonder if you could do the whole pipeline with character creation for AAA projects, like high poly, low poly, baking, marvelous design, substance painter, with what problem you usually dealing with when you create characters, how do you approach etc...it maybe a lot, but if you thinking to create it for gumroad I will happy to buy it, because I self taught 3d character artist and if you could do that kind of tutorials, that would be amazing!
@@niyazsadygov7186 I would buy such course as well!
Cool thanks for sharing! So the Wacom Mobilestudio Pro seems to have enought power to run ZBrush smoothly!? Is it possible to use the Wacom as an regular Tablet with the Desktop PC at Home?
Hi Stefan! I have this plugged onto a more powerful gaming laptop so like using it as a regular Cintiq. However I would say I could do this type of work easily on the MobileStudio Pro with no issues and lag. Heavier scenes/characters with lots of subtools and millions of polys on each would start to show some lag. Usually that would happen near the end of a project.
good tutorial, tks u so much
Is there a way to select all the subtools and color them? Also is this subject super hard to bake and uv.. Because of all the separate parts? Very helpful btw. Easy to follow.
You can use Subtool Master to fill colour everything. or use Zscenemanager to merge and sculpt/paint its pretty good plugin.
How to navigate using fingers? Can you zoom or pan, rotate by pinching (finger gesture)? Or you have to use the express key +pen combination?
This is the companion 2 ?. There is a companion but ,I believe is not I7 . I want to know if I all Cintiq Companion can run Z Brush.
Sadly this cintiq pad only has 2.5 stars on amazon. Must not be that great for some reason.
damn. where hd quality?
Hi. What zbrush is that? How dou you organize things in that way?
Dang, I want so bad to Shade and Render it!!! Really great wok, David! :)
i want to ask a question .. if you modeled this robot and made those videos of it .. and upload it to youtube .. why you didn't made it a tutorial ? !!! why don't teaching us that what do you know !
very nice tutorial... 4m a very nice man,, :) ..that help me lot.. Thanks a lot.
This is the very slow way to do this.
I'd love to see this in HD
I really appreciate this video. Thanks a lot! This video is really helpful and useful, it is going to improve my skill for sure.

Hello, I really enjoyed your tutorial and I REALLY appreciate it NOT being sped up. It really does mess with ones idea of how long these things take. I recently found out that different types of folds in material was a thing (read some of Hogarth's book here - > www.scribd.com/document/7591059/Burne-Hogarth-Dynamic-Wrinkles-and-Drapery ) so my mind is being continually blown. Gonna go and buy that "Dynamic Wrinkles" book, seems to explain things pretty well. I also gave your tutorial ago and I have to confess I came came across a problem you don't address in you video. After having had extracted the mesh and smoothed the edges, I found that the edges of the sleeves and neckline became really ragged after I pushed the mesh around a bit. No amount of the Morph tool was able to correct it. I was hoping you could clue me into how you managed to keep the edges to clean? Thanks again for the tutorial - actually explains some proper sculpting techniques
Which image reference program is it?
Great tutorial. Thank you so much for this xxx

Ho much for the Cintiq? :-O And does it replace the normal monitor or just double it?
I have only begun to watch your video, but I think I'm going to like it! Only downside is the low resolution. Be a lot better at 720p, or even 480p. 360p is pretty low-res.
