A guy, in his cave, building a custom motorcycle. It's been a goal of mine to build a motorcycle from the ground up; using handcrafted parts from independent fabricators from the USA, and craftsmen from the Motorcycle Community. Voodoo Vintage, HammerInHand, Bloodwing Customs, Cobra, Ultima, RC Components... the list is growing. If you are an independent fabricator, let me know what you make. b...

Lacing up my first hand tooled leather solo seat. After I tooled the leather, I pre molded the top, then it dried, so I had to moisten it again. Cameo appearance from Barney, one of my Greyhounds.

Custom Leather Solo Seat: Carving, Dyeing and Setting Rivets (TIME LAPSE)
Переглядів 30 тис.8 років тому
For this build, I wanted a clean, simple custom solo seat. The Hammer in Hand DIY solo seat fits the bill. The kit I ordered comes with a 10 gauge powder coated steel seat pan with closed cell neoprene foam attached and shaped, 8 oz vegetable tanned tooling leather, top and bottom, some 2 prong lacing needles, 10 yards of premium kangaroo lace, tracing film, and some cool decals.
Tool hack for Buell XB9s XB12 swing arm pivot bolt

I bought this used 2006 Buell Lightning for a project build. No factory tools included and I needed to remove the swing arm. Sometimes desperation is the motivation for creativity.

    I'm not sure rediscovering common knowledge can be called a "hack"... but whatever. Us motorcycle riders have been using spark plug sockets to pull our wheel axles pretty much since I could remember.

    This is amazing. How are you able to keep the leather strip from bunching as you lace? Seeing you interact with the dog lets me know you're a good man, and makes me want to be your friend

      Good luck, and have fun. The solo seat in this video was the my first attempt at making something out of leather.

    awesome work, im looking into purchasing some tools to get started... what do you recommend? i dont think i need to spend money on a kit and just purchase exactly what i need and with time add to the tool set... I also will like to redo my seat on my street bob

      Best advice is to watch a lot of videos! I watched a lot of videos on UA-cam to figure out what designs/patterns I wanted, then what the tools I needed. Once I figure that out, I went online and bought what I needed. To start, I would get a ball point stylist and tracing film to transfer your patterns, a swivel knife, and a mallet. For the leather seat I made, I used only three tools: a bevel, pear shader, and a matting tool. This was my first attempt at carving leather, so if I can do it, you can too. Hope this helps bro!

    Just an FYI, Buells come with, in their underseat tool kit, the 'tool' your friend made with 2 nuts. You may be able to find it on eBay if truly necessary. It's just a long 7/8 nut that looks like 2 nuts welded together. The spark plug socket works well enough though

  • @kulvirjandir2454
    @kulvirjandir2454 8 років тому

    Hey what size socket did you use?

    • @bobbyvcustombuilds804
      @bobbyvcustombuilds804 8 років тому

      The socket is for a 13/16 spark plug. But the important piece is the size of the other end, which is 7/8. I spoke to a friend who bought a bolt and 2, 7/8 nuts and jammed them together on the end of the bolt. He inserted the nuts into the swingarm bolt, and used a ratchet to drive the bolt with the nuts, and out came the swingarm bolt. Hope this is helpful!
