Hello, I am YaKnowWhat, I am 21 years old, and I am slowly but surely building my life around me, this channel started off as a lawn equipment mechanic channel, but it has obviously grown past that. I am now taking on many of the projects I dreamed of doing as a kid, and I figured I would take the rest of the world with me on the ride, some of the things I create may be a little dangerous, but Ya Know What? It's fine.
A simple mod that can extend the life of a 4T65E transmission.
Heat is the #1 killer of transmissions, we all know that, the general consensus is that 170-190 degrees is optimal for 90% transmissions on the street, or 20-30 degrees below engine coolant temperature. Unfortunately, sometimes manufacturers cut corners and skimp out on things that cost the end user more money in maintenance at the end of the day.
This curse fell on 3rd generation W-bodies when they debuted in late 2003 with the 04+ Grand Prix, Lacrosse, Impala, and all other V6 vehicles on the platform. The 4T65E transmission they were all equipped with, an already questionable transmission in its stock form, likes to run hot, many owners reporting 220-230 degrees on warm days. This is due to an inferior transmission cooler inside the radiator, and this problem arose with the release of the 3rd generation, it was not a common issue before with the 88-03 1st and 2nd generation W-body cars.
Installing an auxiliary external cooler, inline, or standalone depending on your local climate, resolves this issue quite well, bringing those temps way back down to reasonable numbers. So that's precisely what I did with my Grand Prix in hopes to keep the modified transmission in good shape until I can afford a fully built unit, or swap it with a manual or the venerable 4T80.

Reviving an Old Project of Mine: Yerf Dog 3203
Переглядів 3463 місяці тому
In today's video I pull an old project of mine from before the days of YKW, a Yerf Dog 3203 go kart from the late 90s abandoned in 2020. This is the last abandoned project I have left lying around, and it's time to send it on it's way to a new owner. Music: Mistaken Identity - Blue Saga Music provided by Epidemic Sound
Trailmaster MB200 long ride.

I've done so much work to this minibike, from swapping in the Tillotson 212, to several hundred feet of wiring, its been quite the undertaking. but it's time to finally start enjoying the mostly-finished product.
Trailmaster MB200 Rear Suspension Upgrade
Переглядів 803 місяці тому
A real problem with the MB200 minibike is the terrible rear suspension, riders over 150lbs will have a rough ride on bumpy trails. Given that's about 90% of trails in my area, it was getting pretty old to say the least. I finally got around to installing some better springs to help soften up the ride, and boy did it make a difference. After installing the Mikuni VM22, this thing makes around 13...
Honda EM650 generator sitting for 21 YEARS, will it run?
Переглядів 7904 місяці тому
I have a rather interesting piece of equipment for you all today, this is a Honda EM650 from the late 80s, this generator spent it's whole life powering a sailboat on the west coast up until about 2003 when the sailboat was dry docked up until now when it was finally scrapped for parts, this generator was found inside and looked to be in good shape, so it was given to my up-north neighbor, who ...
Building a 4T65E Transmission For My Grand Prix
Переглядів 944 місяці тому
Hello all, today's very long video is 5 days of work on my transmission compiled into one video. This is the start of turning this car into an 11 second speed machine. Back in the late 90s to late 00s, the Grand Prix GTP was a formidable sports sedan, powered by the supercharged Buick 3800 V6 pushing 260 HP and 280 FT LB of torque, it caught many street racers off guard, it was common practice ...
Reviving and selling my 2001 Polaris Trail Boss 325
Переглядів 7225 місяців тому
In todays video I pull this 2001 Polaris Trailboss out of its 4 year grave, and get it running and sold to make room for future projects. I bought it in 2019, rode it for 2 years, and quickly outgrew it; the 325cc 4-stroke engine is severely under powered and slow for its size, at least by modern standards. Due to typical Michigan bipolar weather, this video was done over the course of a few we...
Generac/Predator/Chinese Clone 212cc: No Spark

I recently had issues with my power washer not starting, thankfully, the fix was rather simple, and I decided to make a quick vid explaining all the potential causes of the problem. The procedures shown in this video should work for most modern small engines such as Honda, Predator, Generac, Duromax, Lifan, and any other Chinese Honda clone engines ranging from 80cc to 700cc. Videos should star...

Fixing everything wrong with my Pontiac Grand Prix
Переглядів 2,4 тис.Рік тому
In this long video, I fix everything wrong with my 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, I turn off that annoying engine light by replacing the MAP sensor, a common failure point on cars with the legendary Buick 3800 V6, and repairing the wiring for the vent solenoid. I also improve the exterior lighting by swapping out the incandescent bulbs with LEDs and HIDs, and replacing the old faded original headligh...

Apart from spending more time with friends and family, money has sadly not approved the continuation of projects lately. The boat project is going to get expensive, so I may have to press pause on it for the year.

Great Job man 👍
Thank you.
very good video. I used 7/32 socket though.
Just know that tuning the car can benefit the transmission temps as well, I had ZZP tune it and the transmission has been running cooler than before, in SC the hottest I have seen it go driving a little more spirited on a 90 degree day was 210, and normally runs at 180-190. I do still intend to add a cooler, but figured I will mention that. After the transmission was rebuilt at 160k, I had the car tuned by ZZP. On top of the rebuild, it also had a shift kit installed. I am trying to get it to last as long as possible, and will definitely add a cooler at some point, I don't fully know when. I would likely install a cooler when i go to do the transmission service at 190k(GM recommends doing the service every 60k, every person who owned one recommends every 30k doing it early wouldn't hurt but doing it late can)
Yes this one has been tuned, when It comes to maintenance I just do every 50k, it’s a fairly universal number for most transmissions. Only thing left for this transmission is a shift kit, after that it should be somewhat stout.
@@YaKnowWhatOfficial It should be as long as you dont beat on it every second of the day, atleast that and it not overheating
How many ccs?
420cc
What length shocks are those? I put 13” one on my 200-2 and now the chain hits the frame.
12” I think, it’s in offsite storage for the winter so I can’t verify.
Thanks for your experience!
What was your set up for the tourqe converter
well done
In every used vehicle i buy i just replace those brake rubber lines. These are very cheap and very easy to change and it doesn't worth risking a brake failure with such a cheap and easy part to change
Generally, whenever I'm compressing a brake caliper during a brake job if it compresses really hard, I'll crack the bleed screw and then work on compressing it again. If it's still super hard, then i know there's an issue in the caliper, if it then moves easily i know there is a restriction in that rubber line.
Ive never replaced a line. I also changed my brake fluid when it starts getting dark. The fluid attracts moisture and gets dark. Keep the moisture out just replace pads and rotors. Ive never done a caliper either for thst matter. Im talking from 96 with 300 some odd thousand to 2013 fords.
Replace both it’s a even wear component you’ll be replacing the other side shortly after
Already replaced the other side last year, it’s not my vehicle otherwise I would’ve done that in the first place.
I jus do the caliber also jus so I don't have any come backs
Not a bad idea but how do you condemn the caliper or is it going to be written up so I don’t have comebacks lol
this is a really good test for bad hoses, I'll use this in the future!
I've had to do 3 sets this year... 3 different vehicles.. dodge, jeep and a chevy silverado.. never had this happen b4 in all the years I've been in automotive. I blame cheap non quality parts.
It wasn't the rubber line itself. It was the clamp that wraps around the rubber line, it corrodes and squeezes the hose.
Sometimes, but the inside of the lines will degrade and cause this over time.
While this is definitely a possibility, it's not always the cause, the fittings were actually in pretty good shape.
I'm not talking about the fitting, I'm talking about the inch long steel bracket that wraps around the hose and bolts to the knuckle. It takes almost no rust to restrict them. Been at a shop for years and the only hoses I've known to collapse really commonly are ford escapes, although I've seen it few and far between on other makes. @@YaKnowWhatOfficial
@@jakelong1999 As a fellow mechanic, 100% this. Yes, replacing the hose also solves the issue but it's quicker and cheaper to just spread the bracket apart.
How do you know it wasn't the calipers?
Typically if it's the hose then the rotor will free back up after a while, but if it's caliper the rotor will remain stuck until you pry it apart
Ain't no way in hell you managed to find a gm economy car running past 100k let alone 330k😂
😂
Well that's what it's got lol, it's been in the family for 10 years. I used to own a 2007 Malibu that racked up 420k before the torque converter gave out.
My mother has an Equinox (same vehicle, different body panels) and still running with 180K on the original engine and trans.
oh that’s what it is ty replaced everything but those old rubber brake lines and it worked fine before being parked for a lot of years now, every time I move it the front brakes are sticking , cool
Tell me you replaced those ancient looking rotors too.
Nope, they are in spec. It’s normal for them to look like that in the rust belt.
He’s right about the rust belt. Depending on where in said belt you live, they can take anywhere from a few months up to a year until they look like that.
I have different issues, it starts to make noise turning singal like and it happens when i put it above 69⁰f
sounds like the blend door is getting stuck, or the gear is stripped out.
@@YaKnowWhatOfficial , no I took it out, and it's not going, not mechanically, it's electronically not going all the way. I have no idea why and how to fix that
@@19Blackskills97 Then in that case its probably something wrong with the actual climate control unit, they are usually pretty expensive on eBay, so I would try to find one at a junkyard first. if you've already replaced that too then it beats me, these cars are known for having phantom electrical problems.
@@YaKnowWhatOfficial oh, it kinda makes sense! Hmmm, thank you for the idea !
When you started it, why did you put the electric starter back on just to let in dangle?
hey man, i just watched your video about putting the 212 in your trailmaster that you posted about a year ago, if i take out the electric starter and just use my pull starter will it still start or do i. have to get a battery to use my bike at all because i am doing the same thing your doing
Yes it will start, these engines still utilize magneto ignition which doesn't require a battery.
@@YaKnowWhatOfficial another question, why when i start mine the engine revs up super high, it doesn’t make sense
@@SupremeStreams Seems like a governor issue, I can't really give an exact cause without having the engine in front of me in person.
@@YaKnowWhatOfficial thanks anyway
That is so cool I think you should build a new garage
Looks like a great ride
Yeah it’s a fun little bike, it handles surprisingly well in the twisting sandy trails of Manistee.
You should look into getting a windshield, keeps the mud out of the instrument cluster
Yeah I’m trying to come up with something to cover it, some kind of opaque hood to protect it from branches and keep the sun off of it, the screen gets washed out by the light and is hard to read sometimes.
Hows the boat comin along?
Collecting dust unfortunately, I think I bit off a little more than I could chew with this project.
Low oil sensor failure is very common. I had it on a generator engine.
Surprisingly enough, this is the first time I've had it fail on me, I've owned somewhere around 15 of them on different pieces of equipment, not to mention the several I've worked on for other people. guess my luck has ran out.
Nice, thank you😀
Youre welcome, glad it could help you.
you overpaid.
This is cool bc I just got this and I have to fix the reduced engine power thingy
Mine over heating once warmed completely up
Thermostat is stuck closed, cheap and easy fix.
Question, when you punched through the grommet, did you just pull it through from under the steering column or? Thanks alot
Currently working on one runs good but could be better little sluggish any tips? We cleaned carb it ran deadly pulled good and second run less snap and slow..thinking jetting, oil injection mix is off idk
That's basically what happened here, just make sure the enrichment jet (choke) is fully closing, and if that doesn't seem to change anything, you may just have to pull the carbs off and go through them. Check compression, should be 90 at the very least, anything under is top-end rebuild territory. Oil mix is a very hard thing to explain and understand through text, I suggest finding a video showing how to determine the mixture based on smoke and smell.
@@YaKnowWhatOfficial we did compression all.good around 110 And 115 cleaned carbs she's running mint and is a blast from the past start second pull thanks for the reply
@@KirkB_ Good to hear, The Mikunis on these are very sensitive so they need to be cleaned reeeal good. I strictly run ethanol free in mine and they still eventually gum up.
the older grand prixs are good too. i bought one with the 3100 engine in it for $1400 a year ago and the only thing i had to do to it so far is the alternator. Nothing has broken on it, very reliable cars and they handle really good for a mid sized sedan as well.
They are, I grew up in a black 93 with the 3.4 DOHC, had about 250,000 miles on it when we gave it to my cousin as his first car, think it had about 270,000 by the time the transmission finally gave out.
Wow!! I had the same sled years ago. I miss the thing. But damn, first pull to start it!!! I seriously was amazed. Great video.
Yep, they are damn good sleds, they sold millions, so thankfully there are still plenty of parts floating around to keep the classics running.
Hey man is it possible to to show a video on how you did the wiring?
I just finished adding all the remaining electronics and I am working on a video for that right now, it wont be super in-depth because there are too many variables between other peoples projecs and their understanding of electronics (a safety thing, don't want to be responsible for any garage fires), but it will give a generic explanation on how things work.
Did you ever have to put a Blower Motor Resistor in yours? Im trying to locate it on my 2000
@ 3:40 the object that black and purple connector goes into is the blower resistor. Should be the same on your 2000.
@@YaKnowWhatOfficial thank you so much
So the plug unit that’s dangling is that the motor resistor?
Thanks 🙏 Holmes
Did you use any harness or did you just straight clip the factory harness and wired it on to the stereo harness? Appreciate the video it helped give some context
Sorry for the late reply, but I used an adapter that connects to the factory GM radio connectors, and converts them to bare end wires that you can solder or splice to the aftermarket radio connector. I also needed the class 2 data bus interface in order to keep the door chime and other functions that were stored in the factory radio. I assume you have a 7th gen 04-08 Grand Prix like I do so here's the exact product I used: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001XOBU4C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
Would have liked you to have shown the carburetor and tuning adjustment, I own the same one and it is not starting right now
What is the name of the piece you change in the steering wheel column? Or you have the link to where I can get it.
It's the lower steering shaft, you can find it on Rock Auto, or just search up "LARS LSC-544 steering shaft" for the exact one I installed.
You have to tell what you paid incl. shipping.
As of right now, the bike is currently available at Go Power Sports for $1,149, and limited time free shipping.
Wow man, I love those minibikes, I personally have one just like that that I got in 2020, and I love it! I put some videos about mine up on my channel about 4 months ago, so if you wanna check them out, feel free. Keep up the good work!
They're great, I've ridden them before but never owned a minibike myself, got lots on the to do list for it.
That LT4000 is in great shape. Thats a shame about the hood. It could probably be fixed. This is one of my favorite body styles.
Same here, it's the square body/bricknose of lawnmowers, always been a fan of sharp edged styling on any kind of vehicle.
@KeenKollector3 Same here! I'm very nostalgic about the 90s as well. My childhood years. I have a mint condition LT4000 that I'll never part with lol 😆
Seat switch, brake switch...
Nice find
Oh man, so cool. You desperately need S M Zeus.
This genuinely made me laugh, I cant believe that old scam company is still running.
Where'd you get that motor must be based off me by the name. Pretty cool.😊
Watch, can’t find the oil drain plug. Mine is about the same age
Does it hold up ???
We will find out, It only has about an hour of run time on it.
