After receiving a number of letters from the TV licensing people ... that read as if they were from some kind of criminal organisation that meant to do me harm, and having had notes put through my letterbox when I was in that said they had called but I wasn't in, I got so fed up that I wrote to the Queen ... yup, I sought her Majesty's help! I got a letter back from Buckingham Palace, from one of her staff ... who said that her Majesty had read my letter and instructed her to send it on to the licensing people ... with a note attached that said: "This has come to her Majesty's attention". A few days later a guy came round and I let him in so he could establish that I hadn't got a television (which is all that I wanted). He was VERY respectful towards me ...if I'd have said: "Lick my boots" he might well have done so. I was told that they wouldn't bother me again for 3 years. 3 years later another TV licence guy appeared. He grinned at me and said: "You haven't got a television?" When I said "No" he cheerfully went on his way.

I'm in Canada and find it real strange you need a license to watch live tv over the airways. Do you need a license to listen to the radio too. Same thing, airways.
