Taitt Guitars is the final realization of a long held dream of mine. Being a musician at heart, I have been playing various instruments nearly my entire life. Music has always been a part of me and is at the heart of my passion and ambition.
I want Taitt Guitars to reflect a unique sophistication and artistry providing beautiful heirloom quality instruments that will serve musicians for generations. Striving to use the highest quality materials available to create an unforgettable, unique, and yet familiar look and sound. I hope to pay homage to the past while looking forward to the future, all while crafting and defining a trademark style and tone.
It is my dream that one of my creations will inspire you to craft your next sonic masterpiece; and that maybe, someday, that same instrument will be passed on to the next generation inspiring them just as I hope it inspires you.

Mesa Walkabout Power Amplifier Failure
Early 2000's Mesa Walkabout took a fall and ended up shorting the output transistors. In this video I find the problem, replace all of the transistors, and finally test everything to ensure proper operation.

In the first video of our build series for our entry into the Great Guitar Build Off, we will be winding a set of P90's that will give this guitar its voice.
amazing work! your video inspired me to attempt my own wire inlay. would love to know what kind of wire are you using and where to get it. I found some flat stuff but it's only colored. once sanded it becomes silver.
I sent you an email but just incase. I used a jewelers brass flat wire. any jewelers supply place should have something similar, but I got mine from Riogrand.com. Its just a soft flat wire of a brass alloy that look about the same color as 14K gold. The stuff I used was 0.020" thick and 0.125" tall. hopefully that helps you.
Should have replaced the noisy fan with a quieter one while ou were in there 🙂 Are the mosfets easy to come by ? I have a Walkabout that I love and wonder if it will be easy to repair into the future..
Sorry for such a late replay. The original mosfets are no longer made unfortunately. There is a company called Exicon that have a line of mosfets that are the same type of liner mosfet and are a direct replacement. P/N ECW20N20 and ECW20P20. As far as I know these are the only replacements for any linear mosfet. Hopefully that helps.
@@TaittGuitars Thank you.
you got my respect
Thank you
I have couple of cheaper guitars which have this fret end lifting problem, what causes it?
It can be caused by quite a few things. But in my experience more often than not it is caused by the quality of the fret job itself. Specifically the width of the fret slot cut into the fretboard compared to the width of the tang of the fret itself.
Pleasure to watch, btw how did you recut fretslots with the lion inlays? I doubt that it was done with the same saw.
With the Proxxon. just went back and cut through the brass in the fret slot and back cut it away from the slot slightly in either direction so it wouldn't interfere with the fretwire.
Beautiful Inlay Work !
Glad you like it!
Looking for the little flush chisel. I’ve bought many but not happy with them.
I got a small set off of Amazon a while back, they were cheep and work ok. Not the best. Im still looking for a good set myself.
I love the nails still in there awesome
Thank you
Please, shoot a little closer next Time !
Outstanding workmanship. Just subbed.
Thanks and welcome
Is this your first guitar build, or just the first one that showed up on UA-cam?
First one I put up on UA-cam. I have never really documented any of the builds I have done in the past while this was still just a hobby. But since I have decided to attempt to turn my hobby into a business, I started this channel to document all of my builds.
@@TaittGuitars How long? How many have you built so far? Where do you sell them?
The more times I see this guitar, the more I think some tint would have greatly enhanced the look of that wood. I use alcohol based tints that are sold as leather dyes. They are easy to control when used in conjunction with oil finishes. The array of colors available is limitless.
I agree with you. Off camera I did some apartments with scraps of the wood but since its pine for the life of me I couldn't get an even color out of the dyes. On top of that the blue staining causing the streaking in the wood just about disappeared once I applied dye, even lightly. I think If I ever use pine again it will have to be a solid finish or something along those lines.
@@TaittGuitars There are ways to control the saturation level of dyes on wood. I do it by using finishing oils and alcohol based dyes. The oil goes on first, then while the wood is saturated with oil (still wet), you apply the dye in successive thin coats, rubbing it in then wiping off the excess right after application, until you achieve the look you want. You can even back up a step by applying another wet coat of oil and wiping it off immediately. I find that it does not obscure the natural variations in the wood. You can even let the oil finish dry completely then dye it further. I use dyes made for leather.
What wood is this? Zircote?
Yes its Zircote.
Love the video, very awesome end result as well. I was wondering what the material is you used for the headstock inlay? It looks like a plate of brass or something.
Thats exactly what is it is. It's a type of brass sometimes call jewlers brass, a type of red brass that's 85% copper and 15% zinc. They use it all the time as a substitute for 14K gold.
Just curious, have you had any issues with color change for the type of brass you are using?
First p90 ES ive seen
I usually only like solid body guitars, but this guitar is beautiful.... I'm liking it a lot. Great build, great finish, like the f style selector switch. Congratulations.
Thank you
what wire did you use for the inlays? awesome work man
It is a flat brass wire used by jewelers to make bezels for stones. The brass is a type used as a substituted or gold.
Heya! Great job! I love the look of the inlay and the final build! This may help the inlay process I’ve tried it on one of my builds and it was on a scalloped fretboard. But I used this technique ua-cam.com/video/arWUZ4Gdcvs/v-deo.html
I LIKE THE BODY FORM!!!✌👏🔝.....THERE'S A LONG TIME AGO, I HANDLED A GUITAR WITH THE SAME SHAPE!??!✌🔝...BUT IT WAS A SOLYDBODY SPRUCE WOODS DESIGN....I JUST LAID ELECTRO MAGNÉTIC SHADOW M 45 REMOVABLE PICK-UP!!🤒😤✌🔝...THE NECK SHAPE HANDLE WAS A ARIA PRO II RECOVERED HANDLE BRAND.......FINGERBOARD MADE OF ROSEWOOD..MAPLE LAMINED FOR THE NECK SHAPE HANDLE AND SCREWED BY ME SO BOLT IN NECK SHAPE.....THE BRIDGE WAS LOOKED LIKE FENDER BRIDGE, SCREWED IN THE WOOD , WITH TRADITIONAL 6 SCREWS ON TOP SIDE OF THE BRIDGE, AS FENDER TRADITIONAL BRIDGE . THERE WAS ONLY THIS MODEL AT TIME, IN MY POOR PAUPER COUNTRY. YOUR GUITAR IS REALLY BEAUTIFUL AND I WILL HAVE A ONE LIKE THIS..👏👏👏👊✌✌✌👍👍🔝🔝🔝🔝....KEEP ON INNOVATING...

@@TaittGuitars AND ME TO MY FRIEND, ✌👍✌🔝🔝
I did something like this a month ago with plans from Woodglut.
Amazing work. Great video. 👍
thank you
That's some very nice looking Pallet wood. Do you live in Beverly Hills? JK 😁 Beautiful design, build, and impressive workmanship. Congrats. Good luck in the competition!
Actually I used to live in Huntington Beach. Thank you for the kind words.
Such a beautiful guitar, I raise my hat in your general direction 👍🎸🇬🇧 ( subscribed)
Thank you
Stunning guitar mate. Bravo - very impressed!
Your F-Hole design is both elegant and beautiful.
Thank you
Work like this can be very therapeutic and satisfying. The destination is beautiful however the journey is the real treat and why you end up there. Great work Sir.
Thank you
Lovely looking guitar, my favourite from the GGBO.
Thank you
Will you be selling this piece, or keeping her close.
This one I built for myself as a prototype for a production model. I’m in process of tweaking a few things on it but I’ll be building more soon.
Your guitar is absolutely stunning, one of the best of this year GGBO, congrats!
Thank you. I don't expect to win this year but this is a good launching point as I move forward.
I know nothing about guitar building/crafting but sure am enjoying your videos!
Wow, Josh! You're incredible! Beautiful work!
Thank you Paula!
@@TaittGuitars you're welcome, Josh! So proud of you. I've sent your link on to many others!
Great guitar. GIVE IT SOME THRUTCH!

magnifico!
Superglue? why not lacquer? why not true oil?
I have done both lacquer and oil based finishes like true oil. I like both of them. The superglue was more because I saw someone else use it as a finish on a small project and thought it might work. Now after having done it, just like using pine. I probably won’t do it again unless someone request it. Even then maybe not.
Woah, you certainly got a good shine on that superglue finish. I don't have the ventilation here to even consider that, mind.
Actually the smell wasn’t too bad at all. But I was in my garage with the door open and did have a fan going.
This is pretty inspiring. I have been contemplating doing a build with pine, or maybe all poplar. Gotta give it a whirl.
Pine does work well as a guitar wood as it is very resonant. but that said it can be a real pain to work with. with its alternating hard and soft grain lines it constantly wants to chip out. onto of that its overall use a soft wood that will ding pretty easily. But if you're careful enough it can make a nice instrument.
Those inlays look great!
Thank you
No wax? You rebel!
Trying to keep them closer to the design of the originals from the 50’s. Also I figure it will add a bit of character to the sound.
@@TaittGuitars I agree. I can't tell you how many pickups I boiled the wax out of because I love feedback.
Two words: wooden covers.
@@timhallas4275 no time to do them on this guitar but wooden covers are definitely on my got to try it list.
@@TaittGuitars When you are ready, here's the easy way. Sand the plastic covers til they are about half the original thickness, then glue on some thin wood veneer. sides first...sand them flush to the top, then glue on the top. tada!
This is going to be beautiful. I love the lion inlay
Thank you
That inlay is exquisite
Nice work 👍👍
Cheers from Texas! Fantastic inlays! That Lion is absolutely stellar! Watching, learning, and enjoying. Peace 🤘😎🤘 M
That inlay work is superb, very inspiring
This is looking great! It's going to turn into a real beauty you can be proud to own.
Amazing work doing all that by hand. 👍
Thank you
Your work on the inlay is inspiring! I need to practise.
That wire inlay is not as hard as it looks. Much less precision required.
The Lion is beautiful!
Thank you
Stunning work, you are so patient
Thank you
Very nice work my friend. Cutting bing channels by hand. Wow, and that lion head inlay. Very nice!
Thank you!
