I left because the pay wasn’t right… PAY MATTERS … or no quality work
If your intelligent enough to maintain vehicles your dam sure intelligent enough to maintain something else and or learn another career !
Shit can ur sob stories folks time for a fkn CAREER CHANGE!!
I’ve got both 97 jacked up Wrangler Sahara and 95 2 dr XJ. I love them both! They’re the only Jeeps I care about! I daily the Wrangler because it’s built and I trust it. I got the XJ as my backup. It was a farm vehicle, not tagged since 2016. It runs and it’s comfortable and it’s next on the menu. I adore XJ’s for all the reasons you list. At the moment I’m dogless, which is unusual for me. These are what you want if you have a dog, and they CAN AND WILL get you out of a jam if you’re momentarily stuck in the mud or snow. Oh and YOU CAN SLEEP IN THEM! LOL! They’re just fine, comfy and lots of room. They made a mistake discontinuing them! Unfortunately I know many have went into the crushers at tow yards. PLEASE PEOPLE snap out of this 100k dollar trance and SAVE THE XJs! They’re way better than these new droids! And they look mean! I’m of the mind Wrangler and XJs are the same tribe! I love ‘em both! #OlllllllO ✌️ #JeepChicks doing #JeepThings. See ya out there! 🥰
That’s a great combination ! I love my TJs and Xj . I have two Australian shepherds they love going for rides . They do not get to go much in the Tj , just not enough room with a family in it but you better bet they go for rides in the Xj . I agree Jeep should have never stopped producing the Xj . I hope others start seeing the value in the Xjs and we can start saving them from the junkyard
Greed. The ones on top suck the life of the workers. Modern slavery
I left in 2023 and went to work for the post office. Never been happier. Dont work as hard. Steady paycheck great benefits ans a pension. Hidden gem in the auto industry.
Fuck that dealership's overcharge tf outta you. Chevy wanted to charge me 10k for a simple engine problem. When i found someone who did it for 4k. Ripp offs
I worked for a new car dealer for two years porting cars. I asked for a raise and was laughed at. I was told I would need to become an oil changer or a salesman to get a raise. The sales position only paid minimum wage until you make commission. The oil changers were paid the exact same wage as me, which was $10/hr at the time. Even the master techs were only making about 22-25$ an hour flat rate. I was making more money than the flat rate people and salespeople some months when service slowed down and there was little work to do. That’s got to be difficult to be used to making a certain monthly income and some months making less than minimum wage because the lack of demand but still having to stay at the shop 40-50 hours a week because the boss doesn’t want to send you home.
Oilfield mechanic is where it's at. I make almost $50/hr straight time, overtime when stuff breaks down in the field, full benefits. Dealerships are garbage. Never worked in one, never will.
I sure as hell would rather try this fix, than tear the entire vehicle apart that's been built around the heater core.
I've been on both sides. If you think you are stressed as an employee.... you wouldn't believe the stress as a owner.
I’ve been on the opposite side for a year and half best decision I could of ever made
@@ThrilloftheGrille Do you have employees?
I quit because i was rebuilding 2 honda accord engines a day for 130 dollars each. Honda of america paid the dealer over 7,000 per job. I left to work for myself.
My truck was in the dealership last month. The shop rate is 200 bucks an hour! Yikes! I ended up taking it to an independent shop at 90 an hour. When I took my truck out of the dealership I told them why. The manager claimed I was lying because his employee rate wasn't even that low. Then he had the balls to offer me 500 for my truck. I laughed at him and told him that would barely pay for the front tires. I couldn't get my truck out of there fast enough.
I've been a tech for over 3 years now and with the stress thing, i just don't give a single inch with the service team. I told them i get here at 8 and i leave at 5. If they suck at planing it's their own fault.
started turning wrenches at 17 and was out by 21 the pay was crap you get treated like crap and felt like a dead end career.
A lot of techs I used to work with had back problems and they all popping pills
I will say this. It's not only car garages. The American greed in companies have hit a new level. Morals values and respect and car for you fellow man are out the window nowadays. It's only going to get worse if you live in USA sadly.
I am not making any excuses for Service managers and their ilk, I only have my own experience to go off of. My very brief time as one didn’t go well. Because I actually listened to my guys and told customers the truth, I was “let go” in under 2 months. Apparently listening to guy actually working on the car instead of telling the customer whatever sounds nice is bad.
So it was all a big lie. They raised prices and told us there was a chip and part shortage. Meanwhile, they were shafting the mechanics so the mechanics were quitting and they couldn't replace them.
Man , almost seems that way
Ur very right my friend truth is the greatest ur awsome
Thanks man !
Yeah the shops use u like toilet paper and then toss u out they don't care about you they just want to make their money
Years ago, when I was wrenching it in automotive shops and fleet maintenance, I would sometimes get into a situation with management and get the old threat with "termination", I eventually made it my personal policy ... to let them know, that "I was looking for a job when I found this one" and then calmly walk over to my roll cab., lock it up and roll it out to my truck... side work is always available to a good skilled wrench so as to tide one over until the next better deal. After a few years of that, I dropped the auto profession completely and went into the electro/mechanical engineering trade with my own small business. You were correct to protect your knees, I blew both of mine out and had to have them replaced as I grew older. I was forced to retire early due to the years of hard work and the toll it took on my body. My recommendation to younger men, don't tolerate abuse and low pay from an employer, always keep an eye out for something better and don't hesitate to take a better opportunity when it presents itself. Be mindful of your body as you go, so you don't end up regretting it as you age, as all those old injuries will eventually come back to haunt you.
Such great advice man ! I hope others see this
Man I sure hate that you have worked for some serious dirt bags. I was lucky when I was in it. Worked at a shop where the boss owned and operated it and if you worked well for him he would look after you. He always said, I'm not trying to get rich, I just want to earn a living and he wanted that for us too.
Man that would have been a great shop to work at ! That’s all it takes is mutual respect
Good briefing you gave, real eye opener to anyone considering the automotive mechanic trade.
All the mechanics need to join a union
Waiting to get hit my anniversary from my shop to put my vacation time in and quit!!!!
I’ve seen so many guys put two weeks in then try to take vacations don’t work that way . Glad your doing it the right way vacation then quit
@ at my dealership as soon as you put your 2 weeks in , they fire you ! They don’t believe in the the 2 week notice
I hear you. Late reply here. 45 years as a heavy truck/ trailer mechanic. Yes about 13 years in all tools needed got. Just trickle some new ones in. Got a screwed up back. White flesh disease in fingers. Hearing aids. I worked at the truck dealership level. No flat rate. My last job was 12 years at a large Volvo Truck dealer. All I did there was misdiag jobs, comebacks, fuched up jobs, jobs that can't figure out. My only gripe is the lack of training. lack of caring to stop and ask before you fuch it up.
Full send. Best of luck.
Thanks man !
Idk I make 200 grand a yr at chevy .. just saying
Congrats man ! Keep that work up . Not many dealerships are worth being at
I left a Toyota Hino dealer cuz they constantly upcharged our tickets , I had other techs numbers on my work orders saying they worked on the truck . They are all the same. Only car about the money. Including key auto group in new Hampshire. Beware
Cheap quality environmental friendly cars that die within 10 years. Over priced labor and parts. Under paid mechanics and job insecurity
Laundry detergent 😂 Did it clean the coolant system 😂
Definitely did not do any cleaning 😂
You literally told my story bro. I went from am after market shop making $15 and hour doing quick maintenance repairs along with the usual tires, brakes, suspension and alignments felt like I was doing too much for too little then went to a dealership where they put me flat rate at $25/hr and I was like yay more money or so I thought until i realized I heavily needed diagnostic tools and other specialty tools just to diag these new cars with a million sensors on them and fix them now I have tool debt that I am chopping away as fast as possible and honestly just leave this trade for good once the debts are cleared. Im already in college enrolled in night classes at my local university at this point im 100% done with automotive i want out lol this trade pays too little for the amount of work you have to put in to fix these cars only to get yelled at by some service advisor who has no idea what they are talking about or by the customer who thinks your trying to scam them like no bro i just want to make my money and go home.
Worked 15 years for Audi and VW. What killed it for me was flat rate, and the politics in handing out work. Now I have been working in HVAC and haven’t been happier.
I quit working for dealers years ago they’re screwing the mechanics and turning around and screwing the customers to it’s a no win situation only thing they mainly work on anymore is warranty work and the parts they use aren’t any better then what you get from parts stores anymore.
Flat rate pay is a joke especially when it comes to warranty, found a fleet shop that pays hourly and never looked back 👌😎
another one for the daisy field!!!
Never worked in the mechanic world but I am very sorry for what happened to you. My heart would sink if I had to owe that much for medical bills. I wish you the best.
Thank you 🙏
Sounds like yall was missing out on 45 and 50k lawsuits when it comes to safety 🤣🤣Better call osha
After 23 years, I got out of the Auto Industry and made more Money and received Benefit's, Toward the end of being a Tech I tried a shop that had flat Rate and quit after a month and went back to where I started for a short amount of time and then left the Auto industry for Good! LOL
We need the rest of the story ? I too work in a dealership for 40 year. Although there are some instances that come up, most respectable dealerships will try and take care of the employee. !!! Most of your stories benefit you as a role model employee. I’m sure there are situations that happen but we need the whole story. With All due respect ! If you were out over a year from work any company would be lookin into what the legal thing to do is ? Plus it’s the insurance company NOT THE DEALERS THAT MAKES THE CALL TO CANCEL. If it’s not getting funded it’s not valid. I’m sure your insurance company sent you a letter saying it’s going to be canceled, plus you’re eligible for COBRA INSURANCE.
I was a month out from being with the company for a year they called and canceled my insurance at midnight the day before my surgery after it was already ran through my insurance the day prior. I got a lawyer but there wasn’t anything I could do. If I could have waited another month they wouldn’t have been able to do what they did . They company has since closed
New videos of techs quitting are shocking me currently finishing my AAS major at college now not sure if this major is really worth it and pays off.
Find a specialty shop , government garage , or fleet heavy mechanic also seeing a lot of people talking about working on planes seems like a good one
$300 hr more hours on job rate keeps going up tech pay stays when things get tight to techs get laid off first their ay higher in sales i got 34 pay cuts for making too much business is ruthlesses just have learn how play game same everywhere work it.
This has evolved into an IT job, don’t kid yourself. Name another IT job where you get burns, cuts, exposed to cancerous chemicals and fumes daily, spend thousands on tools and equipment, stand for ten hours a day, are exposed to all types of weather and are paid on…..FLAT RATE?!? A pay structure created when not one computer was on a car and things were a whole lot simpler to work on. “Nobody’s coming into the field.” Can you blame them?! This is the most complicated “blue collar” job and most grossly underpaid. Currently, the guy driving the UPS truck makes more than me. A full time Costco cashier makes 3/4 my pay…a cashier!! Keep leaving men….it’s the only way things will change.
What causes the debris?
Debris in the heater core is often caused by rust and corrosion building up in the radiator or cooling system, especially if the coolant hasn’t been changed regularly. Contaminated coolant, from using the wrong type or poor maintenance, can also introduce particles that clog or damage the heater core.
I started working at Sears automotive at 25 years old in 1988,, hard to make a long story short ,,,,I left in 2003 after being assistant manager for the last two years, everything was my fault. Corporate sucks. I had people from my town. I live there ,,,grew up there. ,,They kept coming back to me for years because they trusted my work asked for me by name at the front desk. If I wasn’t working that day, they would come back another day.,, there’s no appreciation from management,, the towers were hit one week after I started assistant management and went onto salary, I never got a bonus for two years. I took a cut and pay because there was supposed to be bonuses, but they were none because of towers in 2001.,,, I was single father with two teenage I quit Sears. I threw my keys. I had codes I would open the store close the store and I threw my keys on the desk of the security manager. I was working 12 and 14 hours a day and doing overnights. cause I was the newbie manager.,,, quitting Sears was the best thing I ever did, but also lost my insurance and a steady, regular income, but I managed because I was determined and still skilled,, be careful what you wish for ,,,,pray to God that you can find a place to be appreciated
Mental health is important. Bereavement leave is important. Mechanics need to be in hood mental health to do good work. Employers need to support good mental health.
I completely agree !
aT 0:57 tHEY DO NOT CARE ABPOUT YOU, THEY JUST WANTO MAKE THEIR MONEY. Welcome to the MEXICAN WORLD !!!!!!
Good Breifing, hope they all see this. When it rains, it pours I quit Dec 2024 age 63, Started in 1979 speed shop w/20 years in military. Seen it all. Saw the crap schools were turning out. Had to fix my stuff then come back and correct their work. This got old really fast. They were getting paid just about as much as me. HR's and mangers are no help. See yah, was my only option.
Thank you !
Thanks for sharing my friend. By the way . . . how much bar/psi do you push the air through the system?
You’re welcome man ! I just run my normally air compressor psi around 100psi . You only hold the air down for 10sec or so let off and do it again . Then do that for 10min each hose
