    It's great that the Pact & other organisations exist to help nudge consumer behaviour. However, my experience is that there's a tiny number of consumers who care about the materials their packaging & product comes in so if designers aren't motivated to look into recycling for themselves there's no incentive for them to design better packaging. The question is how does the supply side get better educated.

    • @packagingunboxd
      @packagingunboxd 16 днів тому

      Great question. Supply side has to want to get involved, but like you say the percentage of consumers that care enough to drive change is small. So we must tackle this in our own. For now. Discussions like this are a good starting point.

      @@packagingunboxd Thanks! Well, I finally read the document and although I won't be trying to reach the standards of packaging of companies, that ship electronics like Google, it did give me some things to think about. For now, my problem is that I can't demold the pulp while it's wet without it breaking apart, no matter how well I polish the mold. It might have to do with the glue I'm using, or that I used a blender to break down the cardboard, potentually shortening the fibers. I also tested the material outside of the mold and it's stiff, not as strong as paper mache, so I might try to sandwich the pulp between 2 sheets of recycled paper and maybe modify the design of the mold. for now, it has an 8-degree draft angle.

    • @packagingunboxd

      @@ImPickleTwitch normally demolding is done dry through heat applied directly to the mold releasing all moisture through steam. Doing it wet would be a mess. Some small run shops I've seen them build a solid male mold and a screen female mold to help dry quicker for sampling.

You can do a quick search and find out what kind of caustic chemicals and gases come out of pyrolysis as a byproduct. Literally he's exposing his neighbors and himself and family to cancer-causing gases as well as stuff that's detrimental to the environment as a whole both locally and globally. He's getting donations to build his equipment etc.. and possibly pocketing some cash, but isn't every influencer doing this? @@packagingunboxd Those points you responded to are the least of what should be held for concern. He's exposing people to caustic chemicals. Himself, his family, his neighborhood and the environment. This isn't the type of thing you just wing it for almost 4 yrs over. The state I live in has more large scale pyrolysis facilities than any other. Most are shutting down due to environmental impact, cost, energy usage and the 3% that's able to be turned back into plastic relative products. Making claims like getting over double the amount of energy put into the process is just ignorant. A 50% return would be crazy high but over 200%
